I really wish Rubblebelt Raiders had haste or something! Such a neat card, but man.... so close! If it had haste itself, I would play it. If it was a 3/4, I would play it.

I know what you mean. It seems like it's just short of being really good.

As far as Boros Elite -- LOVE IT, really helps different ways to win on turn 3-4

As far as 4 drops... Hellrider would be fantastic, but with Cavern of Souls almost 100% being called on human (unless i REALLY need to play Boros Reckoner ), the double red by turn 4 isnt always guaranteed. As much as i'd like to also, i don't think i'll be adding Hellrider .

Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip is something i've tried to keep with this deck. Its been in my sideboard, or mainboard during older versions, since day 1. I bring it in occasionally if i am playing other aggro, and the race is risky, or against control when they are waiting until my turn to cast shit (transform OP). However... the one human i have almost brought in mainboard... on SEVERAL different urged was Rubblebelt Raiders . ever since i saw the card (and if you read earlier posts on this list) you'll see that ive been desperately trying to find a place for it.

Like you said, paired with anything and its going to be uber strong. I would have to tweak my mana base, adding some of the gruul duals, if i wanted to try her. But i'm still trying to figure out what to sacrifice to put her in the list. Because, in reality, if i were to cut down 3 cards... i'd probably want to put in Zealous Conscripts Haste, steal Thragtusk , win.

It's such a hard choice when replacing things that work with things that maybe work...

Which is why, if i wanted to run those cards, i would build a different deck. haha

Hey Vos_Is_Boss, does having the 4 Cavern of Souls ever interrupt a T3 Boros Reckoner or are you not playing it until later and always going for the fast kill, and if they stall you, then drop him. I mean, he is a living death threat when you have already got them down to 5-6 life. What's your take on the best way to play him in this fast deck? Last week I used Frontline Medic and he was amazing! If I didn't have the T2 Burning-Tree Emissary into Lightning Mauler but had a T2 Lightning Mauler and T3 Frontline Medic it was pretty beastly.

Back onto subject... I took out 1 Cavern of Souls and replaced it with a Mountain to help with casting a Boros Reckoner on T3 in Naya Tribe, good idea? Or keep 4 caverns?

Honestly... i don't always play Boros Reckoner on turn 3, because like you said, i am going for the fast kill. However... there have been times, running 4 Cavern of Souls that i had trouble casting things like Boros Charm , or Selesnya Charm in the past.

I'm not sure if i need 4 Cavern of Souls . I havn't really run into any scenarios where i was like "God... i wish i had a Cavern of Souls right now." I think i might even take one out, and see how everything flows.

There are times where its nice to have one... however my satisfaction and dissatisfaction with the card are about equal. I think you'd be ok running 3 Cavern of Souls .

I will keep it at 3 for tonight and see how it goes. I too had that issue with casting Boros Charm

the guy who played the simic defenders is probably really cool!!!

@Vos_Is_Boss ran my Naya Humans friday for FNM and went 4-0, every turn 3 win I played was due to Kessig Malcontents , I really do thing he is stronger than people give him credit, I run him instead of Silverblade Paladin and definately got wins where the double strike would just be chump blocked, the few games where Kessig Malcontents did not give me the W did put them in range of my Boros Charm or Searing Spear . Probably the hardest game I had was against people T1: Tragic Slip definately not something I enjoyed

@SportsLookRidiculous

I gave him the Reliquary Tower promo, heh.

@Raek

I'm REALLY happy to hear that, Kessig Malcontents has always been an interesting card to me. It was in my deck originally, until that wave of control came around about a month ago, and i took him out because my field wasn't very full of juicies.

However, like ive stated many times before in the comments for this deck. Kessig Malcontents is A-MAZING against decks with very little removal (other aggro decks too) Now with the excellent burn spell Boros Charm , hitting for even 3 uncontested can often bring you in range for the kill.

Haha, so when I played simic defender after you did, he told me, "You're the only one tonight who's put up a good fight. Oh, but then there was that Boros deck that killed me quickly ... That girl was good."

Afterwards, when you gave him foil Reliquary Tower , he was like, "Awww, that's so nice!" Friend told him that "wow, Boros girl must have been impressed and gave you a gift because of it"

Meanwhile, I say you're just a nice person. Though to be fair, you ARE the only one with originality at our shop (UNLIKE CERTAIN COPYCATS, I AM SO GLAD YOU CRUSHED HIS DREAMS LAST FRIDAY)

And ingenuity should be rewarded with foil Reliquary Tower . I also think my ingenuity should be rewarded with promo full art Raymond Swanland that you may or may not win for me, but that is just my opinion :3

@Vos_Is_Boss I forgot to mention 2 other cards that did insane amounts of work for me, Immortal Servitude , dropped it for 5 when I had been milled down to about 4 cards left in library because he had all the removal, brought back 4 Mayor of Avabruck  Flip , 4 Gore-House Chainwalker paired with 4 Lightning Mauler , 4 Burning-Tree Emissary , put Rancor on one of my chainwalkers, swung for 54... results = salty rage face, also playtested Volcanic Strength in the sideboard and it's AMAZING, went against a few other aggro decks, Volcanic Strength + Champion of the Parish + Boros Charm = instant win it's a great card to play against all the matchups and red decks thankfully a friend recommended it because I forgot the card even existed

@Vos_Is_Boss also because it's funny best quote of the night was "well that escalated quickly" after I cast Immortal Servitude for 5

Vos_Is_Boss says... #16

Haha, I read that, and thought you meant "5" as in 5 for X. I was like... wut? He must have killed a lot of creatures if you were able to do all that :P Jeeberz.

Volcanic Strength seems pretty solid. Something else i could drop turn 2 in par with Burning-Tree Emissary

Raek says... #17

@Vos_Is_Boss yeah I guess that was a bad explenation, x = 2 casting is the other 3, sadly it only brings back the x casting cost, but it still did alot of work

Hamlet Captain , what're your thoughts on him Vos_Is_Boss and Raek?

February 11, 2013 10:59 a.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #19

Pretty solid, but only if you have another anthem on the field, like Mayor of Avabruck  Flip or Angel of Jubilation . However, with the introduction to Burning-Tree Emissary , he could be a scary threat as another 2-drop.

With Burning-Tree Emissary , Mayor of Avabruck  Flip , Lightning Mauler already in the 2-drop spot for creatures, adding another green one might shift your deck more towards Gruul. Especially if you want to use Madcap Skills or Volcanic Strength . The mana base might have to alter just a smidgeon.

jmoody0612 says... #20

My mana base should be ok with the Cavern of Souls and the shocks I run. I'm trying them out over Rancor just to test it a little. I really like Rancor , but I also really like putting dudes on the table. In addition to Burning-Tree Emissary , Lightning Mauler , and Mayor of Avabruck  Flip , Hamlet Captain also makes Immortal Servitude better.I don't know if he will stay in, but it's fun to toy around with him.

February 11, 2013 11:23 a.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #21

I honestly don't know about losing Rancor . That trample is fantastic... not to mention its like a permanent buff to everything, you opponent cannot get rid of it easy... they could get rid of a Hamlet Captain a lot easier if they wanted to.

I think one main thing to consider, and plan for, is playing against Boros Reckoner . The card, when i was playing against RDW just STOPPED me in my tracked. I was weedling him down... and BOOM. Big. Minotaur. Wall. I couldnt effectively swing without losing a creature, or taking a shitload to the face. If it were control, i wouldnt worry.... but the potential of taking 5 to the face because he BLOCKED!? against RDW!? Yikes man...

Boros Reckoner has become my best friend and worst enemy for those reasons. Its good on my side of the field... terrifying on theirs. Whats a good way to get rid of it? Searing Spear will only kill one of my own creatures. And i dont run black for things like Victim of Night or Devour Flesh .

February 11, 2013 11:46 a.m.

Raek says... #24

@Vos_Is_Boss and that's where Volcanic Strength is amazing, sadly it's not always on board and I usually swing in and let them redirect damage and Boros Charm or have to Searing Spear it away

There has to be a better way. dodge is a good way to deal with it, though. I like that idea... hmm...
