I think Hamlet Captain would push the deck's percentages on a Turn 3 kill up a few more notches if you're looking to make it a little faster. I would probably shave a land and the 3 Boros Reckoner in that situation.

the thing about Hamlet Captain is that you have to attack to get the buff, which means you wont get the buff when he hits the battlefield unless you have an unpaired Lightning Mauler , and that should almost never happen. this means you don't get his bonus on your guys until, at the best, turn 3. If the name of the game is speed i would go for Mayor of Avabruk over Hamlet Captain any day, and the P/T difference isn't enough to persuade me otherwise.
March 12, 2013 9:34 p.m.
oakenshild Ok... that's specifically why I was suggesting it. It's one more source of +1 when the deck is landing a T3 Thatcher Revolt. You can only run 4 Mayor of Avabruk, and Hamlet Captain is a slightly more conditional mayor for that T3 swing.

oh... i see, lol i miss read your comment :P
yes that could deffinetly work. if the most land you want to see is 3 i don't think dropping down to 21 will hurt you that much.

There are several ways to do it, honeypeanuts300, i saw your deck, and already left a post. I can help you figure out the best ways to do it if you care to cross swords with me.
Before any arguing begins, I'm going to say 100% that Hamlet Captain blows. Losing 4 creature spaces for him alone is unacceptable in this deck, and playtesting it for months before the ravnica block.. my mind still hasn't changed about him. Play him in gruul humans, or selesnya humans... MAYBE. But with naya, and all the creatures available, i'd ignore him if i were you.
And yes, i have tested him with the new superstar Burning-Tree Emissary, he has potential, but compared with other creatures... there are better choices.

Vos, gotta give ya props, solid deck. saw it, fell in love.
recreated it online, made a few tweaks though, might wanna take them into consideration!
I've won the majority of all my games within 5 turns. 7 at most.( not sure how to link the cards in chat but . )
I changed out the Boros Reckoner, mainly because I couldn't afford them, plus 3 mana cost.. imo high for me since I'll win by the time i have 3-4 mana out anyway.
Swapped Boros Reckoner for Legion Loyalist. sexy little goblin, the trample to all the creatures is extremely nice, plus the first strike saves me when being chump blocked.
I've been looking at replacing him with something else but I cant seem to find anything worth it at the moment. i'll be playtesting this as my main deck, plan to make some tweaks here and there if i run into problems ( none so far, played +20 games online currently, recreated it on the 11th )
Thanks again man

aha! Yeah dude, Boros Reckoner is the next card to leave... however, with all the aggro on the playing field, he is such a force. However... I am starting to ... Legion Loyalist... hmm... HMMMMM... If only he made my guys bigger when he attacked too... (shutup Hamlet Captain, you don't give first strike and trample)... oh boy.
Boros Reckoner makes my opponents cry, and think carefully about how to deal with it. No more Bonfire of the Damned or Mizzium Mortars or Blasphemous Act... without getting hit like a truck (the rest of their life total usually).
However... Legion Loyalist would just flat out make my guys damn near invincible. And can kill the enemy NOW.
Man. I love your suggestion, i may consider implementing it. I could easily drop in 3 creatures on the same turn (with nothing on the board) and make them all swing in. Hell, even pairs well with Burning-Tree Emissary. RG = Legion Loyalist + Rancor or Giant Growth

Yeah :)
also fooling around with the idea of dropping some Gruul Charms in...maybe. just in my case I couldn't afford Cavern of Souls, and replaced them with 3 more Rootbound Crags.
Payday is friday so i'll have a bigger cardpool to work with :)
but seriously man, amazing deck.cant wait to see what Dragon's Maze adds in!

I've been curious about that too... i think all that i really need is an amazing 3-drop finisher. Or a better 1 drop than Boros Elite, but I'm not sure what else I'd need to fill this deck with. It already performs very well.

Why not put the [Boros Reckoner] in the sideboard then?
March 13, 2013 11:47 a.m.
I'm going to run this deck tonight at my local shop (except I'm short 1 Lightning Mauler... grrr Interesting discussion about Legion Loyalist versus Boros Reckoner.
with the loyalist you could get things like:
T1 Champ, T2 Mayor, T3 Lightning mauler + legion loyalist... but there is no bump, so champ=4, mayor=1, mauler =3, loyalist =1 for 9 damage?
Do I have this right? I don't know whether the loyalist is better or not...

Boros Elite is nice, but it's Battalion function only helps himself. I do like the idea of Legion Loyalist for the overall buff. Granted you're losing a Human to pump up the Champion of the Parish, but trample is always good.
As for a three drop finisher...the closest thing about there for you major win condition is the Thatcher Revolt. There's always Ghor-Clan Rampagerfor the bloodrush ability.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #16
Ghor-Clan Rampager is the next best thing in my opinion. Unless i have something like Brimstone Volley with the morbid trigger.
RussischerZar, there is nothing better in the 3-drop spot than Boros Reckoner in standard. With the mana i run, only 4 land USUALLY can't tap for him. So he is easily playable... His abilities are too good to ignore, and they work against almost any deck. So he is mainboard, and when the condition arrives when he is not good, i bring him out (which is usually never) So he is a strong mainboard choice, being good against almost every deck.
PS. Add another bracket to each side of the card name ;D

Might swap out the Silverblade Paladin . amazing card, but out of all the games i've won, he either wasnt played, or was played near end of turns to where the doublestrike really wouldn't have made a difference.
Just trying to figure out if its worth dropping him for a few options.. might keep one in, then throw in 2 gruul charms or 2 ghor clans? still lookin around.
Boros Elite is just too good in this. doubt you'd find a better one drop. I've won games within 4 turns easy without a Parish.
( i forget how to link >.> )

two brackets around the card name ;D
Silverblade Paladin has its advantages, Rancor anything, and give it double strike and its usually GG that way unless they get rid of him. Also, Lightning Mauler paired with Silverblade Paladin is crazy good.
I've won a lot game with nothing but Silverblade Paladin, one other creature, and Rancor so many times that i cant ignore how good he is. There are scenarios where my starting hand looks like that, and im not going to mulligan just because i don't see a Champion of the Parish or Burning-Tree Emissary
As of now, i don't think there is a better 3-drop human that could fill his place. He may not win all my games, but when i play him, he makes it SO much easier.

:: two brackets at the beginning AND end of the card name. 4 brackets total.
March 13, 2013 12:53 p.m.
what about Hellrider? I know it's a 4 drop instead of a 3, but it seems like it might have a place at a 2x. Thoughts?
March 13, 2013 2:28 p.m.
Vos_Is_Boss says... #21
not human :P
do not want
although he is one of the best finishers in standard, I'm not gonna use him. In another universe, i would use him like no tomorrow.
March 13, 2013 2:40 p.m.
So... why not? Is that decision based on a a reason other then he's not human? I mean have you looked closely at Boros Reckoner? I mean he has the body of a human but his head...
March 13, 2013 3 p.m.
Vos_Is_Boss says... #23
Haha, i have made comments in the past about Boros Reckoner being the only exception to the rule. If anything... i would replace Boros Reckoner with Hellrider because, to keep the consistency of my combo, I do not want to take anything else out. Otherwise, the chance of pulling it off drastically change.
I'll have to playtest with Hellrider as a substitute for Boros Reckoner.

i'll try that tonight or this weekend, once i find a few online!

If you're going to try Hellrider, consider trying Experiment Ones in place of Silverblade Paladins, and swap out a Sacred Foundry and a Mountain for 2 Stomping Grounds.

Nah, these are how ideas are born. Or... at least, incubated.
