Nevertheless Boros Reckoner is a very powerful card... he is able to kill Thragtusk if you give him first strike or even if you don't he can use his first ability to kill another creature ... otherwise it'll be 5 damge right in your opponents face :)

to Aturos: yeah no doubt about it, any 3/* first strike creature is good against Thragtusk . I've just meant "if ever something gets printed that deals with Thragtusk most effectively" =)

@ liqo

I was wondering about the dealing with Thragtusk and priority.

If they are attacking with Thragtusk (so it's their turn), and i block with Boros Reckoner , They both trade, damage is dealt, and immediately, i must choose a target for my trigger, which would be Thragtusk (thats already going to die)... but based on state based effects, they both go to the graveyard. Thragtusk 's ability goes on the stack first, to get a token, and then Boros Reckoner 's ability goes on the stack on top of that... so i would not be able to choose the token.

However... If it is my turn, and i attack and we trade. Its my turn, so Boros Reckoner 's ability goes (priority) on the stack, and then Thragtusk 's ability goes on top, so the token would come in before my trigger does... could i then target the token? Or because the trigger for Boros Reckoner goes on the stack (and i must choose a target) BEFORE either creature gets put in the graveyard, i have to choose a target that is still on the field?

Just trying to understand the exact ruling, because i figured once a creature's toughness is zero, based on state-based effects, it is immediately thrown in the graveyard before anything.

And, Deck_Maniac, I have done exhaustive testing with this deck with Kessig Malcontents , the name for the deck sort of derived from him in the past, and like what was said... if i am playing a slower deck, Kessig Malcontents might hit for 3 at max (which could be good, better than nothing) however, it just wasnt enough compared to other things i could play.

PTsmitty, card:Aurelia's Fury is for aggro decks. For one, and i think the main use for it, would be to tap down their creatures, and swing in uncontested for lethal, dealing extra damage to the player if they don't have many creatures. It's second use against control would be to cast it, tap creatures for whatever to can, but mainly hit them for one to prevent the boardwipe. Its final use, would be to deal the extra damage they have left as life. In order of importance, that is how i see the use of card:Aurelia's Fury.

What i'd like to know from everybody... is their opinion of the new ability "Bloodrush". I took Gruul from the pre-release, and went 4-0 because the ability is powerful... mainly with Madcap Skills . +5/+4 is rediculus on a double striker with a Rancor on them. Probably would win me the game right there.

Also. Madcap Skills . Good for standard?

I don't think that the creatures will go immediatly to the graveyard.... it was my understanding that both players deal damage and the ability of Boros Reckoner triggers... after that the combat phase ends and the creatures with the deadly damage go to the graveyard... That's when Thragtusk leaves the battlefield and the token enters the battlefield. so it would be too late for the reckoner...

I'm not sure if I'm right... It's just my understanding on how it works ;)

Ok so... Just derping around and playtesting. Came up with this scenario...

T1: Sacred Foundry , pay 2, play Champion of the Parish

T2: Sunpetal Grove , play Burning-Tree Emissary , Burning-Tree Emissary , Lightning Mauler , pair with a Burning-Tree Emissary . Thats 3 counters on Champion of the Parish , making him a 4/4. Swing with Champion of the Parish + Burning-Tree Emissary + Lightning Mauler for 8 DMG.

T3: Cavern of Souls , play Silverblade Paladin , (counter on Champion of the Parish ) pair with Champion of the Parish ... Swing with Champion of the Parish + Burning-Tree Emissary + Burning-Tree Emissary + Lightning Mauler for 16 dmg... win?

Seems really good... i could have also played a Mayor of Avabruck  Flip and a Rancor ... or a Boros Elite + another Lightning Mauler ... I think i found the cards i want to play mainboard.

This deck is EXCELLENT. I'd run Rest in Peace in the sideboard over Purify the Grave

yeah I really like Burning-Tree Emissary . Makes the deck even more explosive.

I'll have to try is JSims. Seems a little more reliant than Purify the Grave , but i like Purify the Grave because it draws out an enemy playing their Snapcaster Mage and or Unburial Rites ing a game-changer.

Although, with Rest in Peace on the field, they could try and plan around it.

I agree with Vos on this one. I have played back and forth between the 2, Purify the Grave and Rest in Peace finding that most the time, having the Purify the Grave causes the opponent to stagger more when their target is lost. It works just as good against card:Geralf's Messenger and such too. The only time I want Rest in Peace over Purify the Grave is against the pretty good Human Reanimator that uses card:Angel of Glory's Rise.

How about 2x Nearheath Pilgrim to go with your Boros Reckoner and Boros Charm . You damage your lifelinked soulbonded Boros Reckoner and make him indestructible with the Boros Charm then have him damage himself over and over again for as much life as you can handle, maybe take out the Thatcher Revolt for 2x Nearheath Pilgrim and one direct damage spell that you can ping your Boros Reckoner with. Yes, it's a combo that won't happen often -but the change is subtle and the implications are amazingly fun.

I'm debating if i want to keep the Boros Reckoner or not, actually. What you suggested is very interesting... i actually thought about the concept with a Stuffy Doll deck. Maybe i'll build that quick right after this comment. Heh... but Boros Reckoner doesn't fit well when i name humans on Cavern of Souls , and he is a little slow. No matter how good he looks, i think he'd be better in a different deck, not this one... :/

Balls. I really like him.

@ Vos_Is_Boss

After more research on the topic - Trading Boros Reckoner for Thragtusk in combat:

Order of actions: damage is dealt and Boros Reckoner ability triggers, then a player would receive priority so State-Based Actions are checked, both creatures die and Thragtusk ability triggers, after all SBA are checked then both abiltiies are put onto the stack at the same time in the APNAP order and you choose the target for the Boros Reckoner 's ability.

It actually doesn't matter who is the active player, since both abilities triggers at the same time and there's no token created before Thragtusk 's ability resolves.

Last time I get a bit confused with the wording "go on the stack" in the rule 510.3 until I found clarifications in this and this threads.

Hope this get clarified the topic for once and for all =)

I was hoping... but to no avail. Ah well. Might as well just activate first strike and not care :)

I'm toying with the idea too, here's my prototype: Poking your doll

Now I just need to wait for my boxes of Gatecrash to arrive and I start assembling.

How goofy/ interesting could a Boros/ Naya Midrange combo deck be that would include the Boros Reckoner /Nearheath Pilgrim /Boros Charm life gain combo with Court Street Denizen / Assemble the Legion combo? Inf. Life and basically inf. tapped creatures your opponent controls. Funny stuff

I would love to build a control deck with Assemble the Legion :D

actually...

Oh man...

Any deck... ABSOLUTELY ANY deck... should run Blasphemous Act if they are running Boros Reckoner . Even a 1-of mainboard. AAAAGHHH. I'm really excited about this. If other people notice the versatility of Boros Reckoner ... the price is going to sky-rocket.
