Phoenix Cards and Games had a progressive monthly Commander EDH League where I played as Master of Keys. I began by running "Miracle Worker" out of the box from the Duskmourne Series. It is an Esper PreCon with an Enchantment Matters theme and also a few miracles.

I went with The Master of Keys because of He is an Engine with the "X" self Mill ability to generate card advantage. Animatou actually was too slow to set up. Being a flyer with +1/+1 Counters put opponent's in danger of Commander Damage kills with keys, but The Mill and Escape ability gives your enchantments recursive ability, which is Key* (see what I did there?). We are setting up the self Mill using Surveil cards and we LOVE Miracles when we see them. We plan to hit several miracles through top deck manipulation. At the right moment these can be game changers.

Miracles:

  1. Triumph of Saint Katherine

  2. Metamorphosis Fanatic

  3. Entreat the Angels

  4. Temporal Mastery

  5. Zephyrim

  6. Banishing Stroke

  7. Sister Repentia

Notes:

  • Master of Keys has no way to "push damage". If you cannot win in combat or through control, you are basically stalemated.

  • You DO NOT necessarily want Keys to be indestructible if there is not a full graveyard fill of Enchantment options to reanimate. Because the engine of the deck is bringing keys back with X mana cost in order to escape valuable enchantments, you can get stuck.

  • Our MVP is Inkshield. This card alone swings Victory from the jaws of defeat.

Results:

  • After Week 1, we realized many things. We lost two matches we could have won just by missing a key attack and by missing triggers. We are probably out of the League heading to Week 2. Commander Tax does not help Master of Keys at all. We need more self Mill, but we have to add power to the deck and get rid of
