The Last Shall Be First (Group Hug)

Commander / EDH*

Lilbrudder

The problem with group hug decks is that they often reward the most aggressive mean players by helping them find their win condition quicker than usual. As such I wanted to create a group hug deck that doesn't allow that to happen.

Therefore I decided to use Merieke Ri Berit as my group hug commander as she can steal degenerate commanders or game ending creatures at instant speed once she hits the battleground with Thousand-Year Elixir. She is also an insane rattlesnake with Intruder Alarm. This deck is designed to help bad or inexperienced players beat down mean degenerate players. I do this because there is nothing that pisses off spikes more than losing to bad players, and there is nothing I like more than pissing off spikes who play EDH ruthlessly.

The key to this deck is a rather innocuous card named Flash that just happens to be banned in legacy and restricted in vintage. This card allows some wonderful things to take place. The most powerful is:

Flash+Academy Rector= instant speed Omniscience for 2 mana. While Omniscience is great as long as there is sufficient tutors and draw spells in hand the real God Mode happens with Necrotic Ooze + Buried Alive.

There are a lot of activated abilities in this deck but the first Buried Alive search should be Pili-Pala, Palladium Myr, and Arcanis the Omnipotent. These cards in the graveyard will allow Necrotic Ooze to produce infinite card draw and infinite colored mana. It is best to play the ooze when haste-ish enablers such as Winding Canyons, Vedalken Orrery, Lightning Greaves, and Thousand-Year Elixir or Flash inscribed on Isochron Scepter are already in play. From there its a simple matter to draw into cards that build and protect the combo. My favorites include:

Fatestitcher: Tap down all permanents of a doushy Sharuum the Hegemon player or bounce Archeomancer infinitely with Riptide Laboratory or give unlimited uses for 4-5 copies of Isochron Scepter stocked with the most degenerate instants ever like Vampiric Tutor and Flash along side happy counterspells like Arcane Denial and resource denial counters like Memory Lapse. If a player casts an unfun card it fizzles and they get a couple replacement cards and I get a Demonic Tutor effect. If they target me I place it on the top of his or her library then Flash in a Angel of Serenity or Ashen Rider to send the offending parties favorite cards into exile.

Djinn of Infinite Deceits: Swap all the creatures on the board to allow the weakest player to crush an Animar, Soul of Elements player with his or her own creatures. Or gift someone a Necrotic Ooze so they can go all Timmy, Power Gamer on the board.
