Maybeboard

Nobody expects a grown man to dress like this guy, but let's be honest, he can personally take down a raging elephant without getting scratched, without a gun, so I feel like maybe he looks/dresses like this as a way to get attention/troll people, then 'Bam!', he hits them with the First Strike. I mean, does anyone dress like that and not want it brought up?

Lord Magnus was always a nice child, always taking care of the vulnerable, eventually he was chosen to be trained in the Druid's ways, and he proved adept at the difficult task, but also excelled at leading both man and beast. While many of the peers ('the Legends', as they are called) attract followers, Lord Magnus could travel to any village and raise a mob, and to any city to raise an army, and to any army and hopelessly divide it. His ability to influence others did not corrupt him, nor did the burden of authority (and weight of observation) strain him, much to the pleasure of his superiors in the Druidic Circle. As time went on, and the ravages of war rent the land asunder, it became clear to Lord Magnus that even many of the 'good' empires of this world were contrary to nature's will, and that it was on him to help rebalance the scales, lest Nature be forever ruined in the name of progress and profit!

Anyways, this is my Lord Magnus deck, with an emphasis on token generation, intended as a Casual deck with a fairly janky feel. This deck stands out for having a relatively paltry removal package, but this is because it's trying to overwhelm the board, and as such it has little interest in wiping the board, but I am not too against sneaking more removal in to improve performance. Similarly, I think this deck wouldn't frown at some card draw, but it's right at the threshold of 'enough', and most of it is 'good' card draw, so if it works it might stay this way awhile. This deck can make a token board that's sorta big, but it's support like Harmonious Archon that make it work IMHO. I have a couple ways to pump my whole board with counters, which can matter if you've got the widest board.

The deck could use some more Legendary cards to dig out with Sisay, there should be plenty that synergize. I think I need more Enchantments, I might have to look into Enchantment creatures that do what I need, not certain they exist though!

Well, I'm tired of this deck feeling completely left behind, and I do have some cards that might fit into it. I ended up not needing most of the cards from it, but I have a few others that might make some sense here. I really need some more Legendary Permanents for Sisay to find, Serra's Sanctum always exists I guess? It would make more sense if I leaned into Enchantress a bit? That is very in Selesnya's areas of expertise at this point, it's the Enchantress colours.

Edit: Well, I think it's technically way more of a deck at this point, took out lots of stuff that either 'only worked when I was already way ahead', was too small to matter or just wasn't worth the mana (this deck's average MV went down 0.5 after 'updating'), but their is still some 'payoff' stuff, and stuff that gets a lot better when you are ahead. I'm not if Sanctum stays in or not, mostly because the deck might need more ways to use excess mana to make it reasonable, though tbh more high quality card draw would also help.

Edit: Did a bit of testing, was amused to win a game with Call for Unity and tokens generated via Khalni Garden... It's not the way you expect to win, but swinging with a bunch of huge plants is exactly the proof of concept I was hoping for. I'm still not 100% sold on Call for Unity (vulnerability to being removed is the main issue), but the only other card that I can think of that would fill a similar role is Crescendo of War, which has similar concerns (and helps opponents). The deck ended up having a Pir out, and eventually resolved a Contagion Engine, so I nabbed some Proliferates (with Pir out). When Pir and the Engine were removed, I dug out Shalai and dumped my Serra's Sanctum mana into her and pumped everything else with an extra +2/+2, then swung with some insanely large plants.

Edit: Shuffled some new ramp spells in, Farseek and Open the Way over Rampant Growth and Search for Tomorrow. Search is probably better than I'm giving it credit for being, but Open the Way can dig out multiple lands if I draw it late, I feel like this deck wants some cards like that. Farseek wants at least 1 if not 2 more decent Duals (incase I've already got Temple Garden out), but that's not exactly pressing when it can also find a Plains. I also switched up my Anthems, pulling my Ajani (so bad if I'm behind at all, and very hard to keep alive at the best of times) for Crescendo of War (much bigger effect that has political implications). Meanwhile I pulled Jazal because this deck is more likely to be tall relative to it's width, so his ability is probably not very good in here. I replaced him with Stroke of Midnight, this deck wanted more removal, and good generic removal is as good a fit as I could hope for.

Edit: Pavel will probably make this deck regret it, but when it's not playing against Dwarves, Miners and Blastminers both, City of Shadows seems like a neat fit. This deck can untap the odd land, and the deck could use another sacrifice outlet, and I can always proliferate the counter. I pulled Hornet Queen, it's a decent defensive card but it was rarely the aggro threat that this deck wanted.

Edit: Out went Silverwing Squadron and Order of the Sacred Torch, neither were sparking all that much joy, and in go two new Counters synergy pieces, Metastatic Evangel and Evolution Witness. I think the deck will enjoy the tad of recursion, and it definitely wanted another Proliferate source, especially a repeatable one.

Edit: It's vaguely blasphemous, but what if I switched out Lord Magnus for Lady Caleria? she's a more impactful blocker/board presence, offering a relevant political effect to hold up, and as a 6 toughness blocker she's a bit sturdier (and she synergizes with E. Honda, Sumo Champion fwiw). I think the pod could use a non-male Commander, though her being Selesnya is a bit stereotypical? On the downside she's an archer, so maybe she can be a Robin Hood parallel? 3 damage is a LOT of damage from an archer when you think about it, so she's very good at what she does. I mean, it might even make more sense to have an archer bandit character instead of a Druid? In testing I almost never bother casting Lord Magnus, and Lord Magnus' text wouldn't have mattered anyways, the biggest issue is 7 mana vs 6 I guess? Ultimately I think this all comes down to me not being super attached to Lord Magnus (it's very hard to make any sense of the character, he's a druid that's a Lord??), and my wanting a non-male Commander.

Either way I should through in Canopy Vista and Radiant Grove/Arctic Treeline, maybe Scattered Groves, this deck seems a bit prone to mana screw. I should also look at Grasslands, I'm tired of being stuck with one or the other colour and the deck screwed for the first 6 turns!
