This is my go-to modern deck, a mono-black discard build that wins off of Shrieking Affliction. It is currently undefeated on MTGO, and eventually I aspire to bring it to FNM after acquiring the necessary cards. Suggestions are welcome, but keep in mind that I am on a semi-tight budget (i.e. Liliana of the Veil is not possible.) I am working on my sideboard as well; any help would be greatly appreciated.
Shrieking Affliction does filthy things with almost every deck in the format, as it is so cheap and few decks can deal with it effectively. Once you have at least two on the field, it is very difficult for your opponents to race.
Blackmail is cheap and effective, especially if your opponent has mulliganed. It is an excellent combo with Smallpox, as you often end up sniping lands.
Duress is a staple, no explanation needed.
Smother deals with almost every early game threat, including Dark Confidant, Delver of Secrets
and Tarmogoyf.
Wrench Mind is brutal, and is only bad against affinity.
Delirium Skeins, although a rather asinine inclusion at first glance, puts you at an advantage due to the fact that you require less fuel than most decks to function. Chances are you also have a Shrieking Affliction at this point as well.
Raven's Crime is broken in this deck, as the highest costing card is 3. Garbage land draws instantly are converted into Shrieking Affliction damage.
Ravenous Rats, similar to Duress, is a staple. Next!
Augur of Skulls
serves multiple purposes. He can be an infinite chump blocker, or he can deplete your opponent's hand much faster than your other spells. Do I even have to mention Shrieking Affliction?
Smallpox almost always puts you at a major advantage, as it filters your hand while throwing a wrench in an important combo or attack. I reiterate that having an excess of lands is not an advantage in this strategy; as long as you have at least two, you're golden.
Bojuka Bog instantly shuts down a control deck that relies on Snapcaster Mage.
Victim of Night: Versatile and Cheap. Doesn't get much better than that.
