No Pain's Reward? to get you any amount of negative life for Death's Shadow while in Lich form? Death Wish because its great for decks like this :3 i like to use Vedalken Orrery to drop in things when the time is right.

Would you gain life (draw cards) off of Death Wish if you were at a negative life total?
February 17, 2015 2:43 p.m.
Rulings 2/1/2007 If you attempt to halve a negative life total, you halve 0. This means that the life total stays the same. A life total of -10 would remain -10

that's of a ruling for Infernal Contract which is an amazing draw card

WELL, I haven't looked at this for a while. Thanks for the comments guys!
@Gorgosaurusrex Exaclty ;) thanks!
@Jursh Thanks for all the input. Haven't changed this deck in a while so I'm looking over it now. I may try Infernal Contract even though you only cited the ruling on the card, I just happen to have one. I just own the Mirage version which says "Pay half your life, rounded up: Draw four cards" instead of "lose half your life", so I thought i couldn't use it since you can't pay life with a negative life total. Which I agree helps with Pain's Reward... these things will happen, and so will this deck be updated.
Death Wish would be fun... if it worked. but I don't play EDH with sideboards... So I'm not sure what I would do with it, or if it is even technically legal to have a sideboard in EDH.

It's legal to have a sideboard in EDH, but all players in the game have to agree to their use prior to the start of the game, and they're traditionally limited to 10 cards.

Soooo, I was browsing through Magic Origins and then... oh my... Alhammarret's Archive + Lich + 1 life = draw 4 cards... after the first draw of course.

Just had a thought...
Mycosynth Lattice (already in here) + Blind Obedience = better than Kismet / Frozen Aether
... Stasis anyone?

Nice deck +1 from me but one quick thing your side board can only be 10

@the_doughboy thanks for the +1! The sideboard isn't really a sideboard... it's more of a scratchpad as I mess with options for the deck.

Thinking Replenish might be redundant... if I can reclaim my graveyard into my library and then just draw the whole library again it can be pointless. Especially now that I run Hannah, Ship's Navigator (which combos with Lich and Second Chance to give me infinite turns by the way).

Help me on this one guys...
Do we really need Ivory Tower ? There are so many other ways to draw in this thing... especially now that Necropotence gets the ball rolling consistently with Zur the Enchanter ... and then I can just tutor up Convalescent Care and start drawing 4 extra cards at the start of each turn... and then I tutor up Words of Worship to turn those 4 cards into 40 or something... and then... you know. + Ivory Tower seems a bit dangerous (accidentally draw myself out if I can't be sure I have half of my deck either in the library or in the graveyard... but maybe that insanity is part of the allure?)
Consider this crazy option: Pulse of the Fields
Now think of it like this: Lich + Pulse of the Fields + Omniscience / Skirge Familiar = just draw for free for as much as you want!
Or... I can throw Mr. Death's Shadow back in here... Just love the idea of playing him.
Thoughts?

I like Death's Shadow in this deck quite a bit. It's not the best choice out of the cards you are considering but it's definitely the most fun.

@Gorgosaurusrex ...my thoughts exactly. and FUN is more of a goal here then perfecting a quick win...

considering Taking Out:
- Ivory Tower
- Vanishing (mostly there for shroud, but could lose the Pariah when I need it when he's phased out)
- Zuran Orb (sure it gives me a couple of draws, but it can cause more of a problem than it solves now that Crucible of Worlds is no longer in the deck.)
considering Putting In (as replacements):
- Death's Shadow
- Pulse of the Fields - more effective than Zuran Orb late in the game... especially with Omniscience
- Tel-Jilad Stylus / Claws of Gix - some of the cards in this deck are dangerous (heck, even Lich is dangerous), and others are just counter-productive after Lich comes into play. The most obvious being Necropotence (can't pay life you don't have & discards are exiled)but others can be redundant as well; such as Skirge Familiar when Omniscience is out. Claws of Gix can turn those redundancies into draws, and Tel-Jilad Stylus just tucks them away without paying 1... which can save the day if Lich is hit with Back to Nature .
- Kiora's Dismissal - same reason as above... can turn it into removing opponents' enchantments as well.

I was looking at building a new edh deck, and as soon as I saw this I knew it was the one. I looked into making a Lich deck years ago, but I never found a good enough place to start. So I'm using this deck as a basis and editing it, mostly because of budgetary reasons. Definitely +1 though, and I'll be keeping an eye on this
February 15, 2017 9:47 a.m.
I'm curious, why do you say "you can't play Forsaken Wastes unless you have to exile Lich to stay alive"? I mean, I know that it stops you from getting the card draw from Lich, which is definitely a major downside, but it's not a complete deal-breaker as far as I can see.
February 15, 2017 10:03 a.m.
Also, if you use Kiora's Dismissal or Tel-Jilad Stylus to save Lich, how do you stop yourself losing?

Don't use Gilded Lotus . Use Chromatic Lantern instead. It can eliminate "color-screwed" problems from early on to mid-game.
Throw out Grim Monolith - Basalt Monolith is way better and you can combo it with Rings of Brighthearth for infinite colorless mana. Actually, Rings of Brighthearth can combo with several of the permanents in your deck to a hilariously stupid level on the "Broken Scale".
Panharmonicon + Mycosynth Lattice would be taboo-level stupid because your permanents that do things when they enter the battlefield will, according to the rulings, do those things twice. For example, Oblivion Ring , Detention Sphere and all similar permanents you drop will exile additional permanents. The Lich + Transcendence combo will make you draw FOUR cards for every 1 life you lose instead of two cards.
Copying your permanents' activated/triggered abilities is one of the fastest ways I know to break your combos in Commander format. I think the 'harmonicon and the 'brighthearth might make your deck explode! XD

Also lindleya1, Platinum Angel is how.
Now imagine I play the angel, then play Abyssal Persecutor , and wait until everyone else would've, under normal conditions, lost the game. What happens if I then play Merciless Eviction ?!! XD (evil laugh)
And another thing: Mycosynth Lattice + Merciless Eviction = "Annihilation, Jim. Total, complete, and utter annihilation." - Star Trek (I'm almost certain Spock says it, but I could be wrong.)

One more thing to consider @CommanderFun:
Mycosynth Lattice + Rings of Brighthearth + Basalt Monolith = infinite mana in any combination of colors you choose. XD
