id drop the spike for Silverblade Paladin or Phantom Warrior other then that i like it, just needs a few more creatures

I tried that, and it ended up not needing the Silverblade Paladin because I get Rafiq of the Many most games, and the creatures are usually unblockable from the Swords anyway. Was thinking of making a more creature-heavy version and seeing how it did though

And the Spike has done quite a bit recently

Too many swords :P Run 1 of each and then a few Steelshaper's Gift as tutors to fetch them out. No need for 18 cards that are bad in multiples so now you can run 8 cards like Path to Exile or dudes to help push damage through.

Haha. I know why you all are saying this, but it's worked out really well, with the ratio I have. I don't see why having them in multiples is bad, because then I get more triggers, especially with War and Peace or Body and Mind. I don't need help getting damage through because the swords give protection from colors.

I did make a more creature heavy deck, and took out the swords as you recommend, but it didn't do as well as it does now

For competitive modern, 5 mana to turn a sword online is really slow. You also don't want to be drawing lots of them. By running 1 of each (or 2 of the solid ones like Fire/Ice), you can add removal and disruption to deal with a lot of the other decks in the meta. Like, by the time you have 1 sword online, the combo decks will have killed you or the aggro decks will have killed you or the control decks will be sitting back and laughing as they grind you down. Puresteel Paladin also doesn't help here as it will still cost you 9 mana to turn his ability online.

There is a reason in legacy decks that run swords only run 1-2 and then run a tutor package and in modern they only run a few and then run Steelshaper's Gift . Less dead draws, and more ways to answer other decks.

Competitive and casual-ish are different though :p

If I was going to make it competitive, for tournaments and such, there are a few changes I would make

We love it! It's just not modern legal

Really? I guess that shows the extant of my modern knowledge.

Narwek says... #12

Haha, yea, sadly. Otherwise I would definitely have him in here.

Then my only suggestion is doing what they said but only drop to 2 of each. Paths are silly.

My only problem with taking out the swords is A. I have nothing else to put them in, and B. I've had this deck for a month or 2 and not once have I been screwed by the ratio of creatures to artifacts

That's cool. I yo thang chicken wang.

August 26, 2013 2:28 a.m.

Narwek says... #16

And as I said earlier, when I took out some swords, and put in more creatures, it didn't run as well

Add a couple Brass Squire to get those swords swinging a turn earlier

September 8, 2013 3:07 a.m.

Narwek says... #18

Sparkalark, the only problem with Brass Squire is that with a 1 to 1 ratio of creatures and equipment, I would have even less targets to out things on. That, and I'd have to get more as he's in my other equipment deck that's much more cheap, and I'm not talking price wise :p

Brass Squire isn't really worth it, as he sucks at holding a sword, having no attack of his own. Auriok Windwalker is a bit stronger, so I'll do some testing with him

November 21, 2013 10:55 a.m.

Nephilim says... #23

he has 1 attack, but i'm not looking at the attack, but the ability they share.

November 22, 2013 12:11 a.m.

Narwek says... #24

The ability is the problem. If he's the only creature out there, I'd have no target for any of the swords. Out of the 18 creatures I have, only 10 are meant for the job of attacking, and by adding in the Brass Squire , I'd have even less targets. I'm considering the Windwalker only because of his 2 attack, and the part where he has flying, which would be used more for defense, and not as much for offense

18 swords is far too many. I tested it and the deck was clunky with them. Not enough creatures. try maybe 5-6 equitment with Steelshaper's Gift , and smaller creatures with a lower curve. Qasali Pridemage , Birds of Paradise , Knight of the Reliquary the ever elusive Tarmogoyf , cut rafiq, he dies to often and doesn't do anything.
