I would agree with taking out at least two of the Tolaria West for basics. I ran into a number of playtests where I wish that was either a black or white mana (once it was already on the field). I did, however, win a game because I was able to tutor for Engineered Explosives with it. So it has its ups and downs like anything else, that's why I say keep at least 1 or 2, but 4 is excessive.

Hey, just wondering have you took this deck to a modern event? If so, how did it do? What would you say your most difficult matchup was? Also, how well do you think this deck preforms for the most part, and is it up there with other t1 deck (Melira Pod, UWR Control, etc.)? Awesome deck +1.

The only modern events this deck has been to are FNM's and the like, where it has had a pretty dominating performance.
Is it up there with other T1 decks? Well... I don't know to be honest, because even though I crafted this deck to play favorably against most other T1 decks, I by no means think my opponents have mastered the decks they are playing, nor do I believe that I have mastered this deck. In practice though, it plays very well against control and other Combo decks.
It's worst matchup is actually a tie. Cruel control decks are quite vicious, since I either start with Leyline of Sanctity
in hand, or I lose. Boggles would be the other, as it is the only form of Aggro which I can't keep pinned down. Cards like Kor Spiritdancer
provide too much card draw, and Ghostly Prison
doesn't help when my opponent swings with one 22/22 with trample. Against boggles, it's all about getting Chalice of the Void
out with one counter and Engineered Explosives
out with two, so that I can constantly threaten board wipe.
That being said, this deck stomps rabble red/red deck wins, is favored vs eldrazi, and can use Cavern of Souls
to push past most non-cruel forms of control. It even performs reasonably well against most T1 legacy decks.
My biggest concern with this deck is that it's true worst matchup is a deck I have never run into, and have never seen online. What is that deck? I think a rakdos cruel control deck running blood moon, thoughtseize, and land destruction would have to be this decks worst nightmare, since I have no solid fetch lands, no blue basics, and exactly one answer to thoughtseize, which is Leyline of sanctity. Creatures like dark confidant would easily leave me in the dust from there.

Acutally @Kiora_Fan-01, Serum Visions (in my opinion) is infinitely better than Thoughtcast . I'd take visions over it any day. Visions is ALWAYS going to be one mana, while Thoughtcast may still be 3 or 4 mana. Even though you can draw two cards with thought, on visions, you get to scry 2 which is a huge plus.

I tend to agree with lotusofblackness. This deck doesn't tend to keep a large amount of artifacts on the field anyway, so Thoughtcast
would tend to cost me 3+ mana to cast. On top of that, the scry on Serum Visions
in addition to the card draw gives me control over the top 2 cards of my deck and a card in hand, where Thoughtcast
only gives me the top two, whether I want them or not. To me this is much more valuable in a combo style deck like this one.
This isn't to say that Thoughtcast
is an inferior card, but rather that it would be better suited to an affinity deck than to a combo deck which happens to utilize artifacts to help it pull of its combo. In said affinity deck, it would even be arguably better than Serum Visions
.

That's an interesting update you posted about Bomberman. I had no idea it was a thing either, your deck is the first of its kind that I have been made aware of. Congrats on your success and unbeknownst re-vampage.

However, if you are looking for a different use of Grand Architect + Pili-Pala combo, I made a deck a few months ago where I exploited the infinite mana by grinding opponents' decks with cards like Mind Grind , Mindshrieker or Duskmantle Guildmage . These combos can't be blocked by the redirection cards you cited. Here's the deck: I'll Take Your Life as Alternative Win Con.

The reason I don't run Staff of Domination
is because I feel it is weak to miracles decks. One Terminus
top deck and I'm back to square one. Not fun. And the draw all my deck aspect isn't super useful because I would preferably just fetch either of my either two more solid win-cons.
As for cards like Mind Grind
... I found that Blue Sun's Zenith
was a better alternative, as it decks my opponent and then some, causing them to draw cards they no longer have and thus lose on the spot.
The two cards on the chopping block for removal are Path to Exile
and Chalice of the Void
, but for now I want to keep both as the chalice wrecks other combo and burn decks, and path can act either as removal or a mana fixer.
I'm not opposed to adding more wincons, but I struggle with trying to figure just what I might remove to add these win cons. If I remove my current wincos, I really don't change anything but how the deck wins. If I remove other cards, I am removing answers to other decks. Perhaps I need to do this, since this is a combo deck after all, but this derpy combination of combo and pillow fort seems really strong to me.
Thoughts?

Tolaria West lets you fetch things, which is why i think it's in here. 4 is a little much but i see the logic behind it.
