Modern update to the morph deck I made in the Khans of Tarkir era.
It used to be competitive in Standard, but alas, Modern is another beast entirely. It's still super fun to play and can still squeeze out a victory here and there.
The morph mechanic has always been one of my favorites and the KTK block came out with some true gems that this deck is built around.
Trail of Mystery is the true workhorse of the deck. It ensures land drops while significantly thinning the deck, as well as adding to the uncertainty of combat tricks with face-down cards. Having multiple copies in play really gets things going.
Birds of Paradise supplies ramp, and Obscuring AEther allows your to drop two morph creatures on turn 3 with bird ramp.
Maelstrom Djinn is dangerous as a turn four 5/6 flier and can be played straight up in longer games to avoid vanishing.
And two of the most important cards in the deck are Den Protector and Deathmist Raptor. Den Protector allows excellent card retrieval, and Deathmist Raptor provides instant creature recursion to surprise deathtouch block an opponent's beefy attacker.
Sagu Mauler is hard to kill and just a downright powerful creature.
And Whisperwood Elemental provides board wipe protection, as well as scary board presence and if left alive, will quickly take over a game.
