Did a few test's. I like how you don't draw "dead" (ex, mid/late game Arbor Elf's).

What I like: Double strike, flying, 6/6 wurm with Unflinching Courage . or Sigarda with one. Advent the Wurm is so sexy, wish I owned some.

What I dislike: Well, not having the elfs, but you still have speed when it comes to a 5/5 turn 4, and charming a 2/2 knight with a possible Courage next turn.

When it comes to choosing my target for Farseek . With the double colors of Ajani, Garruk, Aurelia, Mizzium mortarz overload, and Advent, it makes it a bit harder to choose. But just a bit.

Get Boros Charm in. Infinite life combo with Boros Charm (going indestructible), Boros Reckoner (targeting itself) and Unflinching Courage (for the lifelink).

Hows Advent of the Wurm for you? I'm also running 2 and I find it's a good card, but I'm not sure if I want to keep it in my deck.

Try Arbor elfs or pilgrims over farseek to help those 3 drops come in a bit faster. Your only early game seems to be Charm, and mortars for defense. Maybe elfs over pilgrims to better the double mana cost's near the mid and late time of the game.

That Sigarda....so mean. I feel like she says "Protection from everything but counterspell and Supreme Verdict"

elf/pilgrim will increase that chance of getting T2 CMC3 down and T3: Courage. That would launch you ahead of the game.

I agree with your point on the little guys. I've been thinking about it for a while because my early curve is so low, and so I've adjusted the deck to incorporate them. Garruk, Primal Hunter has been moved to the sideboard as part of my control package, ousting Assemble the Legion , so I went with Avacyn's Pilgrim over Arbor Elf .

I like Boros Charm over Ajani, Caller of the Pride in the mainboard because the charm the doublestrike is more unexpected, and because of the infinite lifegain combo mentioned above.

If you do go Boros Charm , I'd consider whether you want to stick with Aurelia, the Warleader or switch to Gisela, Blade of Goldnight . It's a close one. They both essentially double the damage of all your stuff the turn they hit the board: with Aurelia she herself can get in for up to 6 the turn she lands, but with Gisela the 4-point Boros Charm becomes an 8-pointer, AND she protects all your stuff better, AND she can get in for 10 the next turn. I guess since they are legendary you could run 1 of each...

Shameless plug: I'm seriously seeking input on my totally-unrelated deck, Havengul Graverobber, if anyone has a minute to look I'd love some assistance.

I think everyone overvalues the infinite life combo. It is potent against aggro and midrange, but nothing else. After all, control is just going to mill us out with Jace, Memory Adept anyway. I already have an incredibly strong aggro matchup and a very good midrange matchup, so I don't need to shore up on that end. The achilles heel of every midrange deck is their weakness against control. Ajani, Caller of the Pride serves a similar purpose as Domri Rade against control, as they both build up to an ultimate ability that requires an answer or it will win the game. The only function Boros Charm has against control is to survive a Supreme Verdict , and if played correctly, I should never put myself into a position where that should be a backbreaking spell in the first place. It is in the sideboard right now, but it is actually the weakest sideboard card and could easily be replaced.

Also, it's the flying and double strike on Ajani that wins me games. It lets my Thragtusk hop over their ground forces for a surprise victory, something Boros Charm doesn't let me do.

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight is a good sideboard card, but the list in the main is so tight right now that I wouldn't change it at all. Gisela is great against other midrange decks and is a massive threat against control, but I'm not really willing to move any sideboard slots to fit her right now, especially with the success I've already been having with the deck. Overall, Aurelia, the Warleader is better because she comes down a turn sooner and often represents more damage than Gisela on that turn with an advantageous board state.

This deck seems really nice. I have a Selesnya deck that I'm running right now which I'm thinking about converting to Naya. I did a bunch of playtesting with your deck here and it seems to work really well. If i do end up making a Naya deck i'll certainly be taking some pointers from here.

I'm extremely interested to see some full reports on this by the way. I'm trying to decide if I want to do something like this or more of a naya blitz kind of thing. I think midrange is a lot more fun, but i might not win quite as much with midrange. I went to a local FNM a couple days ago with my Selesnya midrange and I got wrecked by control. For whatever reason, a lot of control players showed up. How well do you typically fare against control with this deck?

June 22, 2013 2:21 p.m.

Jimhawk says... #19

Control is, by far, the most difficult matchup. Their removal package is solid, and it's hard to apply enough pressure before a Supreme Verdict comes down and resets the board. It's crucial to play around the right things at the right times, which is a difficult skill that requires a lot of practice and intuition. Advent of the Wurm , Restoration Angel , Kessig Wolf Run , Sigarda, Host of Herons , and the planeswalkers are the most important cards to hit in the control matchup. The sideboard makes things easier, but the best way to beat them is still to have Cavern of Souls , which I think strains my mana too much as currently built.

I'll definitely be putting a detailed report on yesterday's FNM up this afternoon.

I imagine having Ruric Thar, the Unbowed on the field against control is helpful. Despite the high amount of control opponents at the FNM the other day, I've been told that the local meta is normally mostly aggro. I assume you fare pretty well against aggro with this? The only problem against aggro that I can imagine would be the first couple of turns. Aside from a Selesnya Charm knight there's really no way to have a presence on the field until atleast turn 3. Once you get to turn 3 or 4 it seems to get pretty intimidating though.

I have crushed a lot of aggro decks by blocking their Stromkirk Noble with a knight off Selesnya Charm and then playing Unflinching Courage on it. Pretty much any of my creatures + Unflinching Courage is an automatic win. Not having Courage makes the game difficult, but manageable.

This deck sounds really fun to play, and effective of course. Naya blitz is tempting because I know it works so well, but I just don't really like playing aggro very much. I'll probably give something like this a try. I just want to make the right choice the first time, because it's going to be a pretty pricey investment.

Have you ever tested running more than one Domri Rade ? I feel like he could be extremely useful in this deck; however, I'm not sure that he outweighs the usefulness of Ajani, Caller of the Pride .

June 25, 2013 9:53 a.m.

Jimhawk says... #24

Having Domri Rade instead of Ajani, Caller of the Pride leads to more consistent games thanks to his card advantage and removal aspects. I choose to play Ajani, Caller of the Pride for his reach and his synergy with Kessig Wolf Run and Unflinching Courage .

Silverblade Paladin also seems fitting for this deck. There isn't really anything I would remove for it though.
