I've been playtesting this for a few weeks now with great success. The only change I see is Avacyn's Pilgrim instead of Farseek . I find myself holding onto a Farseek all game without ever using it, making it a dead card. I'll be trying it today at fnm and see how it fares.

I tested Avacyn's Pilgrim for a week and it was noticeably weaker for the deck. It would sometimes help me get to a turn 2 Loxodon Smiter and somewhat more rarely a turn 2 Boros Reckoner (thanks to having to include more Forests), but more often than not it would just get removed instantly. It doesn't help that a lot of decks right now are running 3-4 Pillar of Flame for Voice of Resurgence . A lot of opponents have remarked on the stunning uselessness of Pillar of Flame against the way the deck is currently constructed, and if I'm able to make 4 cards in their deck completely dead, I'm happy for it.

Farseek is more resilient ramp, and is extremely helpful in getting to GGW for Advent of the Wurm or RRR for Mizzium Mortars . Avacyn's Pilgrim can't do that.

The alternative to make Farseek more worthwhile is to work in a pair of Primeval Bounty . I've been struggling to find a place in here for that card, but I know I really want it in come capacity. Its versatility fits with the overall purpose of this deck very well; the struggle right now is finding what to remove for it, or if it should even be in the mainboard.

Fair enough. But the turn 2 Boros Reckoner has been winning me games against aggro. I playtest against a friend that plays red deck wins and just by getting that turn 2 I've won the game. Beyond that I see your point, I am also going to test Arbor Elf to interact with my shock lands and see how that turns out.

The combination of Domri Rade minus 2 and Boros Reckoner is perfect if they have a huge monster out...

Selesnya Charm handles that just fine already; Domri + Reckoner is better against small guys, letting you fight one then kill the other with the trigger, netting a two-for-zero. I've done it a few times, and it's the main reason a lot of top Naya decks at events have opted to run 3 Domri Rade in the main.

How was your fnm? I went 2-2 one of my two losses was a combo deck that required him to mill his whole deck into Laboratory Maniac , I was just sitting there watching this masterpiece happen, I had no interactions with it and he would Izzet Staticaster High Priest of Penance just wiping my board constantly and with Angel of Glory's Rise bringing them all back I was just dumbfounded.

The other was BWR Aristocrats and he had 10 gabillion Tragic Slip both games so I couldn't put a single thing out.

I went undefeated in the 6 rounds of swiss and only lost in the top 4 because I went for a max value play instead of playing more safely.

It's not surprising that you lost to Aristocrats, I seem to always lose to that deck as well.

It went 1-2 the game I won he had no slips so I was able to get creatures out and overpower him. Can you give a run down of your games?

I've noticed you've yet to go against a Jund Midrange deck. There's a guy at my shop and we always end up in the top 2 every night and at this moment I'm 0-3 to his Jund deck. Have you gone against one? And if so did you win or lose.

I've played against Jund twice and won both times. Those happened before I started putting out more detailed reports. Sigarda, Host of Herons is a nightmare for them because only Vampire Nighthawk or a lucky Bonfire can kill her. Otherwise, it's basically a coin toss because so much removal goes back and forth that whoever gets a creature to stick can usually win. Restoration Angel is very good at blanking one of their removal spells for value, so that is usually another good card in the matchup, but they have Olivia Voldaren so both decks are equal at the 4-drop slot in power.

Hey dude! Congrats on all the top 8 finishes. That is awesome. I was looking at some of your previous decks. And since you got so much praise for your almost mono-white decks I was wondering if you could help me out with my deck.

Hey man I like your deck, I'm running something similar with junk colors. How are you using Advent of the Wurm ? My meta is full of Voice of Resurgence and it ends up being cast sorcery 80% of the time.

July 22, 2013 12:05 p.m.

Jimhawk says... #14

Advent of the Wurm is my way of playing against control by having a threat that they can counter, opening up my turn to do whatever I want, or to just have a threat after a Supreme Verdict . It also gives me another flash blocker for aggro. Against Stagtusk, it's still really good even when cast on your own turn.

mcflufystein says... #15

The flash block as won me at least 5 games. My shops meta is control decks out the ass so Voice has never been a problem for me. But I find myself keeping it in hand for a long time which may not be what it's meant for.

With Thragtusk rotating out, what will replace it? Maybe Brindle Boar ?

So I was running my spin-off of this deck (Naya Midrange) today, and I played a hilarious hand against Junk Aristocrats and won today in the standard tournament. My hand had 1x Sunpetal Grove , 3x Avacyn's Pilgrim , 1x Boros Charm ,1x Sigarda, Host of Herons , and 1x Selesnya Charm . I won the match before, so the opponent went first of course. I managed to draw a Stomping Ground on my first draw. Naturally I paid the 2 and brought in an Avacyn's Pilgrim . Next turn I missed my land drop, but I threw down the other two Avacyn's Pilgrim . Next turn I played my Sigarda, Host of Herons then passed the turn. Skipping some boring stuff, i played some lands and a Loxodon Smiter . I went on the attack with Sigarda, Host of Herons and Loxodon Smiter , which of course was blocked by a Lingering Souls token, which he then sacrificed, but I played a Selesnya Charm as well as a Boros Charm on Sigarda, Host of Herons to swing in for 14 damage, plus 4 unblocked damage from my Loxodon Smiter to hit him for 18 total. Next turn I drew another Selesnya Charm . I went on the attack again and gave my Loxodon Smiter trample with Kessig Wolf Run , and the same to my Sigarda, Host of Herons with Selesnya Charm to swing for lethal.

tl,dr: I had a weird and kind of stupid hand that worked exactly as i'd hoped it would.

This is one of the great decks I wanted to run before the rotation, but hit my stride with American control, reckoner style, and never got this one out there. I'd suggest 1x Blasphemous Act , it's a win-con in my deck that's paid off a lot of times in my W/U/R deck I mentioned, but if you do it you'll need to mainboard Garruk, Primal Hunter at 2x to get the card draw so you can pull it off consistently as an alt win-con. I'm actually surprised Garruk's not here. Also no Cavern of Souls ? You only have angels, wizards, and beasts so I would think 2x could be really useful against control matchups. Anyway, one week to go. Happy hunting.

P.S. what do you think of Boros tokens post-rotation?
