So you don't like playing the deck's everyone else plays, but you like to win. How do we do this and stay competitive? The answer is Heroic. They are not the most powerful creatures, but they are low cost, efficient and effective when combined with protection instants. Enchantments bolster your creatures and add a bit of extra power in abilities.
You must remember, this is a Heroic deck first and foremost. The idea here is create early large threats and give them evasion around turn 5 for the win. However you must play a reactive game with your instants. Don't use them just for the sake of pumping. Try to target heroic creatures based on their secondary abilities because it gives more bang for the buck.
Battlewise Hoplite
is an amazing choice because who can hate on cycling through their deck?
DO NOT be afraid to turn sideways. Forcing them to try and remove your creatures is key, and your enchantments do even more when you attack.
(EDIT removed Treasure Cruise for a little room for
Gleam of Authority
. I think it's a better fit for giving power to the unblockable creatures.)Cycling should allow you to reach card draws. There is enough draw that you should be sustained longer than without. Just keep cycling for the cards you need, and the match becomes easier.
The deck becomes less effective the longer it plays. Reason for this is low creature counts and low hand size due to all the instant protection. A few well placed removal spells on your creatures after you've boosted them up will hurt very much so. Board wipes will likely end your game.
Interactions:
Targeting instants + Heroic Creatures = Wow
Heliod's Pilgrim or
Hero of Iroas
+ Auras = good
Aqueous Form is generally a win condition once the creature is pumped a little. Cycling is a bonus!
Careful with heavy removal and counter decks as they tend to be hard matchups. DO NOT OVER EXTEND YOURSELF! It is hard to not want that 5/5 creature on turn 3, but play reactive and you will keep your creatures alive and healthy with all the protection spells. This deck has speed, but is necessary in most matches to play conservative so they can't remove your creatures.
Basically the deck has a lot of synergy. Make counters on heroic guys, turn sideways. Evasion if needed. Protection as necessary. Profit every card drawn.
