Yeah, the thing is dirt cheap. Built it for around $4, and that was before Innistrad rotated. It's killer in multiplayer, I win every time. I like the idea of Golgari Thug , I'll have to think about it. I normally wouldn't like Armored Skaab either, but it's a selfmill spell that's also a creature, so it works well, and I don't have to mill it ahead of time. Though with both Grisly Salvage and Tracker's Instincts , that got pretty easy to do. (The deck was originally just green/blue).

what about Tome Scour instead of Thought Scour ? its a good bit cheaper to get hold of, and while you dont get an extra card of it, it puts more than double the amount into your graveyard than Thought Scour does.

@lemonzy Thought Scour is mostly there because it's an instant (You block my 3/3 Splinterfright with, say, a Nessian Courser and I drop that), and because it's a very cheap cantrip. The card draw is what makes the card. I like getting a benefit out of my card aside from just straight-up mill. Good idea, though.

Yaaaaaay cheap decks!!! You say this deck has an impressive multiplayer record, that is so cool in such an inexpensive build. Great way to sort of dance around and shake your butt at the person with the hugely overpriced I've-got-every-single-bomb-card deck guy. I was going to say Mulch , but honestly I think that Grisly Salvage , Drown in Filth and Tracker's Instincts might be better. Lotleth Troll could be good in here. I really like what you've done with this deck a lot, it's the best budget build I've seen in a while. I'm gonna put it in my playtest folder, that way I can take it for a spin later. +1 :D

Just got done playtesting this. Man, Kessig Cagebreakers was absolutely off the chain. It's was kind of like 'La-la-la skipping through the woods heehee' followed by sudden and certain death!! I'm suprised that Kessig Cagebreakers wasn't a more popular card during Innistrad.
November 11, 2013 7:47 a.m.
Kessig Cagebreakers make the deck. It's insane. Usually, in multiplayer, I lay low, mill myself a lot, wait for one of them. Once I get one, I swing at somebody with no defenses, make 10 r more wolves, and send them at the biggest threat. Then, next turn, I do it again, but with 20+ wolves. The card is only like 25, too. It's ridiculous. The thing is that the deck also functions pretty well in 2-player. I'll think about Lotleth Troll . I'm super cheap, though, so I'll have to wait and see if the price drops. Thanks for the feedback, though!

Wow! Had this decks when Innistrad was still new and fresh. Tri-colour in budget is hard to go, but with Terramorphic Expanse it works wonderfully! Have you try Artful Dodge or Wreath of Geists ? Because the problem wasn't to have the "good" creatures in play and the bad in the graveyard, but to smash at your opponent's face and win.

It's a very cheap and efficient land base. Black is quite easy to come by once you mill some Dakmor Salvage s with Tracker's Instincts , Armored Skaab , or Thought Scour . Then they can do their part and mill you a little more, while providing black mana.
I like Artful Dodge but honestly don't know where to make room. I need to keep my creature density up, so I can't go putting in too many of these. Maybe swap the Abundant Growth for one? I don't like Wreath of Geists because it isn't a creature. Nighthowler fills the same role while being much stronger and also working as a creature.

Commune with the Gods is a good card for this deck as well
January 3, 2014 3:09 p.m.
Biffy12 I'd love to have those. The problem is that I really don't have room for them. Grisly Salvage and Tracker's Instincts fill that role pretty well. I also have to kep my creature count up so my yard isn't flooded with other spells. If you have any ideas for what to cut, I'm all ears! Thanks for commenting.

True, though if you ever add in more enchantments, I'd suggest putting those in as it allows you to grab either a creature card or an enchantment
January 5, 2014 8:07 p.m.
Yeah, I had it in to find Abundant Growth so I could easily support 3 colors. Eventually, I found out that I didn't really need all those enchantments, so I cut Commune with the Gods for more Tracker's Instincts .

love the idea, +1
I've modified the idea a bit and made my own: Grave Concern, wonder if there's anything in there that might help?
Though I'm not sure if I've made it better or worse :P

I gotta say, I never saw dredge and all as quite a strong strategy, but this deck makes me reconsider....

Nemesis of Mortals or Ghoultree could work well here, 10/10 for cheap with their effects, do you think you could help me with my self mill deck, its for standard, but its pretty similar in concept, Rot and Roll.

Dreamborn Muse is one of my favorite mill cards if you have a way to manipulate your graveyard becsause it mills you as well. like through Feldon's Cane or something in there to shuffle your grave when your library gets low
January 22, 2014 7:15 p.m.
another thing mill is primarily blue. so you are running wayy to much GB if your main focus is mill
January 22, 2014 7:16 p.m.
@saltyk I'm not trying to mill my opponent and I definitely don't want to make my graveyard go away, because all of my Splinterfright s and Boneyard Wurm s and Nighthowler s die. And that's sad.
@bantam1234 I've been thinking about those. Ghoultree is the only one I would consider, but I probably couldn't reasonably get it out until I had 6+ creatures in the yard, at which point Kessig Cagebreakers is so much better. I haven't played with it, though, how does it really run?
January 22, 2014 7:19 p.m.
My main focus is not mill, saltyk. My main focus is getting creatures into my graveyard to pump up creatures like Splinterfright and Kessig Cagebreakers . Then I beatdown my opponent. Their library stays intact.
January 22, 2014 7:20 p.m.
So wish I could afford Birds of Paradise , Sylvan Caryatid , Deathrite Shaman . What about replacing Llanowar Elves and/or Abundant Growth with something like Joiner Adept , Orochi Leafcaller , or Manaweft Sliver ?
January 22, 2014 7:23 p.m.
This deck, a long long time ago, started out as an Esper Laboratory Maniac deck. It was pretty fun, but rarely won any games. After a few months of this, I tried switching to blue-green with Splinterfright and it became much more fun and consistent. Eventually, black came back into the equation. Ever since, I haven't liked Laboratory Maniac . In probably fifty games, I have milled myself out once, and that was in a six-player game where I was winning and was just toying with the last guy.
: ( I didn't win.
So, yeah, no Laboratory Maniac . He takes up space, doesn't do anything, and even if it gets to that point, he's too easy to kill to rely on.

I had a BUG self-mill deck when Innistrad was in standard, and I loved the deck. I would recommend using Spider Spawning , maybe 2 or 3. It is excellent for these decks. Splashing blue for Mirror-Mad Phantasm and milling yourself is pretty exciting with Boneyard Wurm /Splinterfright .
April 25, 2014 2:03 p.m.
Hey thanks NoPantsParade! This actually stared as UG back in Innistrad, but better cards have cropped up in black over RTR and THS, so I switched over. I ran BUG for a long time, but the mana was too inconsistent and blue just doesn't offer enough anymore. I prefer Kessig Cagebreakers over Spider Spawning since it's a creature in the grave and it can keep making Wolves over and over. My form of milling here are super-deep dig spells like Grisly Salvage and Satyr Wayfinder , rather than actual straight-up mill.

I like this deck runs smooth and does what it's meant to do...I'm not a big fan for Armored Skaab I would prefer Golgari Thug in case you would want to grab back a beneficial card from your graveyard that you may have discarded but overall it seems just fine +1 man this deck is nice...wouldn't know what else to change from it and man oh man! this deck is cheap haha...Love it!
