Suicide Black is back.
What is Suicide Black? For anyone who wasn't around when it was a thing, Suicide Black is a hyper aggressive black deck that uses efficient creatures with a drawback to beat down the opponent. (
Tormented Hero
and
Herald of Torment
are good examples of this creature type.)
1-Drops:
Rakdos Cackler
: The most efficient play that I can make with this is to play it turn 4 prior to a Marauder to get in an extra 2 points of damage. Otherwise, he's basically my backup plan for turn 1 if I don't have a hero.
Tormented Hero
: One of the all stars in the deck (Yeah, really). Play him turn one, and have your opponent scrambling to get rid of him. He wears the bestow creatures really well, and is just tits with a gift. A recurrable source of damage on the first turn is really nothing to take lightly.
2-Drops:
Pain Seer: This card actually isn't bad here. Wut? Suiting him up with a Gift, he actually turns into a huge threat that is rather hard to get rid of. I won't be taking anything more than 3 off of his ability, and with Gift, I'm gaining that much anyway. If he's not enchanted, he's just a 2/2 human, but that's still good here.
Thrill-Kill Assassin
: This girl's the best blocker ever. She creates stalls when I need them, or can stop a huge fatty from attacking. Such good. Many deathtouch, Wow...
3-Drops:
Herald of Torment
: Basically just our flying arsenal. I tend to not play this unless I need to, because I like to hold him to be bestowed. He is strictly better when bestowed. At the 5k, he just wasn't as much of a threat as I had anticipated, but I think that he has a real place in the meta. A real finisher here.
Mogis's Marauder: The other all star in the deck. Basically this is this deck's version of Sphinx's Revelation or
Fanatic of Mogis
. Unless it's a black matchup, this card is a total blow out that a lot of decks can't deal with turn three or four. Just don't try to build your board up to play this on T4, then lose to Supreme Verdict.
Lifebane Zombie: Just a very efficient beater. Intimidate gets around a lot of things, and the 3 power is able to take out a good deal of threats. Also, his ability to strip a blood baron, obzedat, or trostani is just tits.
Other Stuff:
Thoughtseize: The best black card in standard. Nuff' said.
Hero's Downfall: The second best black card in standard.
Devour Flesh /
Bile Blight
: Efficient removal with little downside. Sometimes they get a faster start than me, and this slows them down.
Staff of the Death Magus
: A hedge against burn decks or anything that wants to race. Also good in a control match for building up and having some extra turns.
Sideboarding plans:
Staff of the Death Magus
comes in for burn decks or other aggro decks. Usually taking out Lifebane Zombie if it's not a G / W match.
Duress comes in against UWx control and mono black devotion. Usually taking out
Rakdos Cackler
against UW, and
Bile Blight
or
Thrill-Kill Assassin
against MBD.
Dark Betrayal
comes for mono black anything. Take out bile blight against Devotion and devour flesh against aggro.
Crypt Incursion comes in for devour flesh in the dredge matches.
Doom Blade comes in for pain seers and / or the 2drop removal against non black aggro.
Erebos comes in for any random creature in the Revelation matchup. Usually a tormented hero.
