Salus Per Sanguinem

Evil is but a matter of perception. The Angels and Monsters kill, and so shall he; indiscriminately they take the richest and the poorest, and so shall he. Before Edgar Markov, The First Vampire and Lord of Innistrad all opponents are nothing more than a rich feast. He need not show up on the battlefield to make his presence known for his neonate spawn dutifully execute their mandate: To carve fear into the veins of fools who dare to rise above their station as food. Come! Join us as we revel and dine, for this is the Commander you seek and more importantly the deck you shall host.

This deck originally started off as a simple upgraded precon which over time has evolved into an aggressive or aggro deck archetype with an aristocrats subtheme. The primary wincon is combat damage and damage from sacrifice and enters the battlefield triggers. The secondary wincon is the Sanguine Blood infinite combo represented in both Enchantments and Creatures. The deck can be very explosive early game - the most important turns tend to be between 5 and 8 when developing a board state and becoming an established threat. Depending on how successful the early game is, the deck can reliably threaten to kill an opponent off between turns 8 and 10. This deck is meant for a 4 player pod - not for 1 vs 1 games as Lord Edgar Markov is banned in Duel Commander.

The deck's biggest weaknesses are poor politics - as most who know of Edgar Markov target him based off of established bias and those who learn of him are immediately wary of his Eminence ability. We can't blame them, they're only mortals. Additionally, the deck does have a hard time recovering from board wipes, so it is advisable to never over extend one's board presence - e.g. if you already have Cathars' Crusade on the battlefield, then there's no need to also play Banner of Kinship. Lastly, the deck does have a high cognitive load. Cards like the aforementioned Cathars' Crusade can make the multiple triggers of +1/+1 counters very difficult to manage and increase the likelihood of a misplay.

I'm pretty happy with where the deck is at the moment. No big acquisitions planned outside of maybe a Judge Promo Edgar Markov as an alternate art for the commander. I do have some visual upgrades planned however, as I plan to acquire some retro bordered foils with the release of Innistrad Remastered. All of those updates should be reflected on the deck page as I get them. Given the tendencies of Wizards at the moment, there will likely be some pushed new Vampires released in the future and i'll definitely comment on or acquire them when relevant or when i'm not feeling lazy. Other than that all I can say is thank you for reading my primer and visiting my page. If you are so inclined please peave a comment and a +1.

Figured I should do something for Edgar as it's one of my other decks that I bothered making a page for. If you're interested in my take on Vampires, please stay tuned - and offer ideas if you feel like it.
