This deck seems too slow to run in Legacy. My experience is that if you haven't won by turn 2, you lose. Do you have any way to ramp or cheat out your big creatures?

Ya, probably do need to add cards like that and am considering getting Etherium Sculptor & Vedalken Engineer to fix that. Thanks Zimmers_0 & almace.

Coral Atoll is not worth going Legacy for. This deck might be alright in Modern but its basically unplayable in Legacy. Casual might be a better format if you're just wanting to use old cards.

Yeah I wanted to get rid of Coral Atoll for something better. Really this deck is mostly for playing casually, but I want it to be as good as I can possibly make it. Probably gonna aim for making it able to somewhat compete in modern while till fun to play casually. Unless I find a hilarious combo that I can't do in modern. :P

Unless it's Gleemax + Tinker that is.....they won't play me if I use that. :(

I went ahead and just replaced 3x Coral Atoll and an Island for 4x Darksteel Citadel. I disliked Coral Atoll that much.

Your deck isn't Modern legal because of Puppet Strings and Worn Powerstone, so take them out if you want this to be legal :P . I suggest Thoughtcast because it will almost always be 1 mana draw 2 cards. Cranial Plating would also be good on any creature with evasion. And by the way,

I was reading your description, and I know you took it out, but if you Clone an Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip you would have to sacrifice one of them immediately because of the legendary rule, so you wouldn't get a second Elbrus. The legendary rule states: If the same player controls two or more legendary permanents of the same name, that player will choose one of those permanents, and the others are sent to their owners' graveyards.

Ah, i forgot all about the legendary rule. Also I decided to just take it out of a format and made it casual, because this is actually my favorite deck and the only kind of event I've played is FNM at ComicQuest. I've actually fallen out of standard ever since my deck got rotated out and haven't gotten back into it.

I'm gonna order the singles today or tommorrow, so I'd really like any last suggestions and thoughts about my maybeboard.

I'll worry about my sideboard after I finish the mainboard.

I would remove the 4 Vedalken Engineers because you already have a large mana base, and that card is essentially a dead draw late-game. I would replace those 4 slots with 1 extra Master of Etherium and 3 Steel Overseers. Also, take out 1 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas and add in a Tezzeret the Seeker , as he compliments the Steel Overseer + Unwinding Clock combo really well. Seriously, that combo will win you games. You also might want to consider adding in a Darksteel Juggernaut or two, as they can really put pressure on your opponent.

Also, Hangarback Walker + Steel Overseer wrecks face, especially when combined with Tezzeret the Seeker and Unwinding Clock.

Okay. I was unsure about using Voltaic Key or Unwinding Clock since the key has to be paid every turn for only 1 while the clock had a larger initial cost and worked for a LOT more. Untapping artifacts can also help against counter spells like Rune Snag with a cost.

Steel Overseer looks pretty good, but I'm not certain about Hangarback Walker; that is a maybe.

I pretty much just left the Vedalken Engineers in there since they sometimes help out with mana with my janky version of this deck. I'll prolly take them out.

The reason I like the Hangarback Walker + Steel Overseer combo is because if your opponent removes your Hangarback Walker, you then get a number of 1/1 flying creatures equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on it. So let's say that you have 2 Steel Overseers and 1 Unwinding Clock in play, and you pay 4 to bring out your Hangarback Walker with two counters. Then you tap two of your Steel Overseers to put two more counters on it, then at the beginning of your opponent's next turn tap your two Steel Overseers again to put two more counters on it. If your opponent decides to kill it that turn, you've now got six 1/1 fliers, and have forced your opponent to use up one of their removal spells. If you use your Steel Overseers again during your next turn, you've now got six 3/3 fliers, and with Unwinding Clock, during your opponent's next turn those will become six 5/5 fliers, and will continue to grow by +4/+4 every turn.

And all that this costed you was 4 mana for the Hangarback Walker.

Also, Sol Ring + Voltaic Key creates infinite mana. The only drawback is that you're only allowed to have one Sol Ring in a deck. But I would definitely include it in this deck.

Wait, nevermind. I was thinking of a different combo lol

-Xiphos- says... #16

I...quite like that idea. Now Ijust need to figure out what to replace to make room for like 3 or 4 Hangarback Walkers. Would I be better off just using 2 Tezzeret the Seeker s? 1 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas can be devastating with his -4 ability, but he's more expensive price wise, but Seeker would give more untapping for Steel Overseer or mana from lands. I figure that it might be better to have 2 of 1 Tezzeret than 2 different ones.

I might also take out the Black/Blue lands for a regular Island or maybe a different blue land? Perhaps another colorless with a good effect?

jules11788 says... #17

Actually I would keep one copy of each Tezzeret in the deck, just for variability of utility. On one hand, you have an amazing finisher that can fire off his ultimate the second turn after he hits the board, but on the other hand you have a great combo piece that allows you to untap your creatures and artifact lands (and if you add in the 1 Sol Ring, you can untap that too). Also, you can use Tezzeret the Seeker 's -X ability for a cost of "0" to search for your Hangarback Walkers because their CMC is "0".

So I would personally keep one of each in.

Hello I am a cat. I am pawsitive you will get my upvote. Here are some suggestions to improve your deck.

If you are running 8-post you may want to add Vesuva for more mana and life gain.

Shimmer Myr works great with Unwinding Clock.

You need some Ensoul Artifacts.

Add Spellskite to your sideboard to deal with those pesky Lightning Bolts

Baleful Strix is a threat that replaces itself, however with only half your lands producing colored mana you may want to see how it works first. Also consider Epochrasite

You may also want to add Phyrexian Metamorph to copy things, Etherium Sculptor for cheapening your artifacts, and Ghostfire Blade for a really efficient artifact.

If you remove Seat of the Synod, Vault of Whispers and Power Matrix you could make your deck modern legal. If you do, I'm sure a certain Loxodon Warhammer or Whispersilk Cloak could replace the matrix. If not, then add legacy legal Jhoira's Toolbox to your deck.

Thanks, I'll look into these in a bit. The main reason why I made this deck legacy rather than modern was actually due to the artifact lands giving Master of Etherium and Cranial Plating a larger boost.

With Vesuva I'm going to want to do some playtesting before deciding if I want it or not since as of right now having huge amounts of mana isn't too big of a deal and ideally Unwinding Clock should untap a decent amount of mana.

An alternative to Power Matrix could be Chariot of Victory, but power matrix is just really good and works as a sword and shield with Unwinding Clock

Ensoul Artifact...it seems like it could be good for turning a land into a creature, but I'm not sure what other uses it would have. Is there something I'm missing for why it's good?

Phyrexian Metamorph seems good since it can copy something I ahve or an opponent's powerful creature ti fight goyf with goyf. :P

Shimmer Myr definitely looks like a good addition to this deck to instant cast big creatures to block.

Etherium Sculptor can be good. Right now I some some of those and Vedalken Engineers and I usually find the Vedalken Engineers more useful. I took them out since the mana cost is a lot less than my pretty bad artifact deck is right now.

If I keep this deck as legacy then Jhoira's Toolbox also looks wonderful. Maybe replace Swiftfoot Boots with them? I'm bad at removing cards to make room for others.

I'll also look at the other you mentioned. :3

Ensoul Artifact is good beclaws of cards like Darksteel Citadel. You can be attacking with an indestructible 5/5 on turn three.

Or, turn one land and Chronomaton. Turn two Ensoul Artifact, five damage. Ensoul Artifact can be targeted on artifact creatures. :)

jules11788 says... #22

Yeah I agree with IAmACat on this one. You can also use it on your Unwinding Clock if you happen to draw more than one of them, which would prevent that from being a dead draw. Just think of it as a 5/5 creature for 2 mana.

Should I put in a bit of Counterspell? I'm also thinking of getting rid of Tezzeret and using something like Dispatch to replace black? One problem that I tend to overlook is how will I deal with the other player's deck and focus solely on my own.

September 7, 2015 2:32 a.m.

jules11788 says... #24

I wouldn't add in counterspells. For them to be really useful you'll need to add in 4 of them so that you draw them often enough, but by doing that you'll need to remove 4 other cards. Dispatch is a great card, but if you are worried about getting the right type of mana then switch out some of your lands for Evolving Wilds in order to help mana fix.

jules11788 says... #25

Nevermind, I forgot that Evolving Wilds only targets basic lands
