Hey there!
This is one of my older decks, and to be quite frank, one I'm most proud of. Sure, there might be some lists that are similar to it, but I assure you, I've made this on my own.
The name comes from Teysa, as she was a Baroness in the first time Ravnica was around.
I've tried to give this deck the most Orzhov feel possible. Not "it's BW, so it's Orzhov", But to have the Orzhov's Guild feel.
Subtle and insidious but not in a secretive way, like the Dimir, this midrange deck has a response to almost every thing your opponent can throw at you, be it by simply exiling it with
Unmake
; killing it with
Sunlance
; denial with
Duress
,
Castigate
and my personal favorite
Pillory of the Sleepless
; or downright countering it with
Mana Tithe
and
Dash Hopes
.
Creaturewise,
Nightsky Mimic
is a powerhouse, especially when you drop an
Edge of the Divinity
on it, the turn it is ready to attack. It will become a 4/4, and then a 7/7 with flying. Even if you don't play a golden spell in your next turn, you'll still have a 5/4 on the ground, for only 3 mana. But you can and you should Edge
Mourning Thrull
for some insane life gain on the air, or curve out with a
Nip Gwyllion
for a 4/4 life link on the ground. Even a turn 1
Vault Skirge
will gain you the 2 life back with little to none response while doing so, in the first turns of the game. Slap an Edge on a turn 3
Porcelain Legionnaire
, paying 2 life, and you've got yourself a 4/3 first striker.
A bit of a discussion here: Some say that punisher cards are bad, because you can't control the outcome. But I think that they fail to see them under the proper light.
Dash Hopes
in my opinion, needs to be seen as a 2 mana for five damage at instant speed in black. That can counter things eventually. It is a burn spell that will be a hard counter when the opponent cant afford to lose anymore life. Play it as a counter, but knowing that you will be hitting them for 5, for 2 mana. You'll never be disappointed again. ;)
P.S.:
Castigate
is just SO underrated! It is a superb denial spell, sending to exile ANYTHING non land! And, it has the coolest flavor text, one that truly defines the Orzhov as a guild: Weilders of both faith and wealth.
P.P.: Yeah, I'm a Orzhov fanboy here.
