I was considering getting rid of Walking Archive all together in favor of more control maybe? Maybe something like Hero's Downfall ?

having removals like Murder and Hero's Downfall (or for rakdos, Dreadbore ) is always a good move when you're not running (pr when you're up against) ueber creatures or creatures with a lot of pump (think 4-of's Titanic Growth , etc..) i run all three in my semi-prison Grixis Control deck..removals are crucial for decks that aren't creature heavy (and being a blue/control player, i'm never running a lot of creatures..) and it's oh so nice to be able to tap 2 or 3 and kill a planeswalker, or some ueber 7/7 trample wurm or some shit..too bad they don't work against Emrakul, the Aeons Torn ...damn colored spell protection :-\

I have Dimir Charm and Far / Away what would I take out in place of cards like Go for the Throat and Hero's Downfall ?

I like the power of this mill strategy once it gets going but I know I need help with the control so keep the comments coming guys!

i would say Dimir Charm and Cyclonic Rift ..maybe it's just my play style, but i want creature removal regarless of the creature's attributes (similarly with counterspells, i want my counterspells to work regardless of the spell type..) ...i would only be looking to cast Cyclonic Rift for its overload cost, and, in modern, it's way too slow ..by turn 7, the game is pretty much decided, and if you're on the losing end, it could quite possibly be a case of too little too late

A good point. I was using it to bounce cards then flush them into the graveyard with Jace's Archivist .. The same with the overload..

I was wondering also, what your thoughts were on Geth's Grimoire or Liliana's Caress ? I feel like Notion Thief lets me build my hand insanely fast and these two cards could be very powerful but I don't want to weaken my deck by needlessly putting them in

if you're banking on Jace's Archivist 's ability, then i'd definitely try to work some Liliana's Caress in there, especially since the ability stacks so getting three on the battlefield to deal 6 damage per card would be very nice indeed (and if they have a 4-6 card hand when you pull the trigger, then the game would be over that turn, unless they're playing mega-lifegain or something..)

I'm thinking Hedron Crab ? Sure, he's an efficient miller, but Liliana's Caress is an entire win condition in this deck... Thoughts?

sure man; try it out & see..it'd definitely help your CMC further...i'd definitely try to get the Jace's Archivist / Liliana's Caress combo working..you'll just have to figure out a balance between creatures & spells..i typically play with 10-14 creatures, but like i said, you'll have to feel out the balance

Don't play Modern, but a nice mill card would be Archive Trap maybe? Mill for 13 for free sounds pretty good for me.

I actually used to have a full set in here, but it didn't seem to click right. What do you think I should get rid of? Because milling for 13 for free is hard to beat.

So, I think I've streamlined the deck a bit more.. It feels like the core mechanic is more reliable now that i've added Whispering Madness and Reforge the Soul .. I actually play a 'couple miracle' spells since Dimir Charm lets me set them up on occasion.

The addition of Duskmantle Guildmage combined with Jace's Erasure and Liliana's Caress makes the engine even more devastating.

I had to cut back a bit from the control aspect, which I'm a little worried about.. But Now I can play Dreadbore and Devastation Tide ! So now I don't feel like shit for not playing Hero's Downfall !! Anyway, guys, I would really apreciate some feedback, the deck has changed SO much since your input. Thanks guys!!!

I don't know if you want quality jank, but Archive Trap + Ghost Quarter is usually pretty entertaining. Plus it can get rid of those pesky nonbasics.

I'm not sure it really fits in well here. I could try it out though. Any ideas on what to take out? I'm trying to make something a bit different from every other mill deck. As far as I can tell they almost all use Archive Trap Glimpse the Unthinkable mindfuneral... You know.. Basic junk like that.

Any ideas on how to improve the overall quality of the deck?

This looks like a nice build. I am loving the Cyclonic Rift here. I am also a big fan of your use of Elixir of Immortality . I almost suggested adding Crucible of Worlds until I saw that.

Is it too much of a stretch to deal two damage a turn, because bloodchief ascension is good enough to build a mill deck around.

I can easily do 2 or more damage with Liliana's Caress but I don't think Bloodchief Ascension is right for this deck, maybe you could explain your reasoning for me?

I suppose you are correct actually, since there is much less actual milling, but its a one shot with glimpse the unthinkable and many other cards. Jace's erasure deals two and gains you two as well as mill one, giving you a better chance against aggro. However, maybe underworld dreams or some other version of it is better.

The synergy between Archive Trap and Ghost Quarter was already mentioned, but Trap is great because so many people run fetch lands as well. It's really funny when they're on the play and they fetch first turn and then pass, and you're like oh btw mill 13 at end of turn before you ever take your first turn. Anyway, just thought I'd point that out since I didn't see anyone else mention it.
