I think you're missing the best Stax piece ever created -- Possessed Portal

You can either sacrifice tokens or continuously recur small artifacts and discard them, or just use Reassembling Skeleton.

Dropping it wins games. Every end step! EVERY!

Possessed Portal is a great card, however, it is a bit too expensive for this deck cmc wise. Yes it is very strong but I want to win with cards around cmc 6, Mindslaver being a good example. It is also begging to be countered, very scary.

Reassembling Skeleton is definitely finding a spot soon though.

I like the changes, deck looks solid. I wasnt a fan of Salvaging station when I was running glissa, I think you're better off with higher impact cards.

That's true, getting it countered sucks hard.

I typically sub Mindslaver and Possessed Portal in and out depending on number of opponents. Typically, no deck is in a good enough position that I can successfully 2v2 against the other two decks (using Mindslaver) -- but three people and below, always mindslaver.

I like the changes too. Do you think Entomb would work well here? Easy dumping of Bloodghast or Reassembling Skeleton, and you use it before a creature dies to effectively tutor an artifact with Glissa.

I'm tempted to replace the Mindslicer for a Helm of Obedience in my sideboard in order to kill someone with Leyline of the Void if that needs to happen. I want to know what your thoughts on this combo are, is it too slow or is it just completely outclassed by Bloodchief Ascension + Mindcranker in multiplayer.

Love your list. Your deck is what inspired me to create my current favorite deck.

That price tag is disgusting.

August 9, 2016 1:11 a.m.

I completely agree! There are cards in this deck like Nether Void and Guardian Beast that are incredibly old and are collectors items, same things with cards expensive cards such as Damnation, Phyrexian Obliterator, and Metalworker. Many of the non-budget cards in the deck are either these or utility cards which can be swapped out for more budget options, same with many of the lands. There are many budget options for stax decks in the Primer, Hidran, many of which rival these cards in power level. In no way am I expecting anyone to invest 2000+ dollars on a children's card game yet I wanted to give an example of a competitive level stax threat.

What about No Mercy

December 22, 2016 7:41 a.m.

I sometimes run No Mercy instead of Nether Void or Grave Pact if I think itll have more of an impact. Its a purely defensive card which is why I dont mainboard it. It's best used in decks that use more life gain so they can take the hits

Useful info. Having written this primer, would you be willing to take a look at Please Hold by Immortalized? Please note that updates may not occur rapidly as i have little time to aquire cards, but i always appreciate advice and the occasional upvote. (the deck refuses to link due to another deck with same name)

Hey love the deck, just had a few questions regarding changes and a particular card in the deck, if you have the time. First off, why Krark-Clan Ironworks, there does not appear, at least at first glance, to be artifacts that you can actively sac for mana without hurting yourself? Secondly, since I do not have much experience playing stax, what would be a faster and more deadly wincon that could be played in this list, as you mentioned in the introduction?

March 26, 2017 4:14 a.m.

JollyD99: I was debating whether or not to add Disciple of the Vault to produce an infinite damage combo with Myr Retriever and Krark-Clan Ironworks. This would also be a potential solution to the second part of your question. Another faster combo (in multiplayer) is Bloodchief Ascension and Mindcrank which is absolutely insane if you can set it up early and protect it. Besides that there are classics like Leyline of the Void and Helm of Obedience. Do you think removing Sensei's Divining Top was a good choice?

Immortalized: I looked on your profile but could not find it, is it private maybe? Link it to me if you can. :)

Perfect_Phyrexia: Sorry for the late response, just got off work, but yea in regards to Sensei's Divining Top I think that is a preference based decision, I like it personally, but can see a cut for it. Additionally, if we are looking to replace Sensei's Divining Top we can always play Scroll Rack, but not sure if we need that either, still a great card either way. Personally, when I have been playing the deck I have been in love with Pox and think it is a keeper, also a fan of Death Cloud, although I think we need to ramp a little into it. The more I research Glissa, the Traitor stax decks the more I feel we need to bust the green element and really ramp into a dominant board state and decimate the board with our stax effects. Even further, if we play things like Oracle of Mul Daya we can really abuse Crucible of Worlds and Strip Mine, or set up for a fat Death Cloud. Another thing, do you feel we should play Eternal Witness, I think when it is paired with Volrath's Stronghold we can grab about anything we want from the graveyard ,seems spicy, but I don't know. Lastly, what is your oponion to playing Clock of Omens, do you think its worth it? Just sharing ideas I have been having, not sure if they are valid :D

March 26, 2017 11:49 p.m.

JollyD99: Clock of Omens is a good card if you use it in a combo with Unwinding Clock and degenerate tap artifacts. My combo in this deck is with Krark-Clan Ironworks and focuses on the death cycle of artifacts rather than the un-tapping aspects which is prevalent in blue EDH decks. Oracle is too easy to kill IMO and so I have the effect on Exploration to try and compensate. Krark-Clan Ironworks can be used to great effects to power ramp with artifacts like Mana Vault or Grim Monolith which can be tapped for burst mana and then sacrificed for even more mana instead of paying to untap them. Considering the nature of this deck I should be able to retrieve them from the graveyard and play them for their cheap cost again and again. Eternal Witness is cool but I use Noxious Revival and I wouldnt know what creature to cut for it. Use it in your deck by all means.

You play reassembling skeleton but not Bloodghast?

April 15, 2017 3:03 p.m.

Bloodghast cannot block sadly, I prefer having something, anything, that can block in a game. I use Bloodghast as a set of 4 in a suicide black devotion deck and they work amazingly there when comboed with Buried Alive. The haste really comes in handy during a 1 v 1 and with more powerful equipment to slap on the endless swarms of Bloodghasts I keep reviving per land. Reassembling Skeleton can also be revived at instant speed so I can bring it back at my opponents end-steps for example, making it untap on my turn. I hope that cleared things up a bit metalevolence

I loved playing Stax in Vintage so I really liked this list when I first saw it. Then I got the cards to play this deck and I'm definitely a fan of this deck. Only thing is I never really play Glissa when playing this deck just because I don't play against enough creature based decks to make use of her ability. But still an awesome deck and hope you provide many updates!

May 26, 2017 8:05 a.m.

No problem Darkmage0509, I play bigger multiplayer games so I have plenty of creatures to make use of her ability. The guide gives many different generals that can hinder control and combo more-so than creatures and aggro. In the same colors I would suggest Nath of the Gilt-Leaf and the deck My Deckbox Smells of Rich Mahogany as a starting point. A discard engine on this level is absolutely oppressive for spell based decks.
