Mono-Black. Devotion is a big thing for this deck, since Gray Merchant is a game finisher, and just being able to cast him, can bring you back from the brink of defeat. The synergy between Crypt Ghast's ramping to flood the field, and dropping a Gray Merchant with Sanguine Bond on the field is devastating. Liliana helps us thin the deck of lands, which increases the chances to draw the creatures and spells that we need. Also, against opponents who aren't playing Black, Liliana can use her -3 ability to pump up a Lifebane to swing for the kill with his Intimidate mechanic, or she can use her -3 to remove a pesky God creature. There are less than 3 "playable" Rogue-type creatures in Standard, so Deathcult Rogue is basically a 2/2 unblockable for 3cmc. Couple him with Necropolis Regent's ability and defeat is only a turn or two away for your opponent. Nightveil Specter gives me a great deal of Devotion to help my Erebos become a creature, and also lets me play my opponents cards against him. Desecration is the 4cmc menace that he's always been, and MUST be dealt with by your opponent, or they lose. PERIOD. Underworld Connections gives us much needed card advantage/draw power/devotion for bigger Merchants. Read the Bones is one of the best Black cards in the block and is self-explanatory. We aren't worried about the life loss from Read the Bones/Thoughtseize, because we have Crypt Ghast for Extorts, and we have Whip of Erebos to give us Lifelink, and bring our homies back for one last high five to our opponent's face!Ultimate Price takes care of the creatures that Doom Blade can't, and Hero's Downfall, helps to curtail the Planeswalker shenanigans. Between Thoughtseize and Lifebane Zombie, we will have plenty of information about our opponent's hand, and that is an invaluable asset in itself. Overall, I like the strength that Black has currently, and I like this decklist...barring a few minor playtesting changes. Constructive criticism is welcomed.
