Due to the exile effect on AofG boros reckoner wouldn't do the damage from its passive because it would no longer exist within the game. :(

Why is exile relevant? It is still 'dealt damage'. I get why it stops Voice of Resurgence . I've done a quick search and all the results I found said it still deals the damage.

Went 3-1 last night at my local event.

R1 vs BUGr Midrange

G1 I kept an iffy hand with only 1W source and lost fairly fast.

G2 He mulled to 5 and kept a 1 lander.

G3 Was actually a good game. I'd got him to 6 and he was starting to blow up my lands with Sylvan Primordial and I topped a mountain so I could Boros Charm him twice.

R2 vs Aggro Junk Constellation

Both games went very similar. I 2-for-1ed him repeatedly. Nothing special.

R3 vs a Br Aggro Tournament deck (I think)

G1 I smashed him

G2 I kept a really iffy hand and drew a Temple on T3 instead on an untapped R source for Anger.

G3 I kept an iffy hand again. I boarded out all my high end for Fiendslayers and Soldiers. I kept Ephara, Stormbreath and lands...

I'm pissed over this one as I know I shouldn't've kept either hand (G2 and 3) and only kept them as I don't rate the other guy as a 'player' and got cocky. It's something I really have to work on.

R4 vs Naya goodstuffWe had a few games before the tourney and he went 3-1.

G1 I had a vigilant Stormbreath and Purphoros + Brimaz combo. When ho finally got rid of both, I dropped Elspeth for the Purphoros combo.

G2 He mulled to 5 and I had just enough removal for the threats he had. Again, vigilant Stormbreath, but he had a Reckoner buddy this game.

Thanks for the comment.

To the best of my knowledge, it was originally French (I did a bit of research), but does it really matter?

There's so many countries it could be. Aus, USA, France, Cambodia, Chile, Eng, etc, etc

Do you have any suggestions?

It doesn't seem like you would ever get enough devotion for the Gods, or is that not even a goal?

@Teg So true :)

@ jwr The gods are a testing process atm.

Ephara (actually a creature regularly) and Keranos are for draws and a bit of reach.

Heliod (a creature a fair bit too) is mainly in there for vigilance as a vigilant Stormbreath/Reckoner are really scary, then token generation is alos an 'ok' mana sink, although horribly inefficient.

Purphoros (hit's creature a bit too, but not extremely often) is there for the combo with Captain, Brimaz, Assemble (SB) and also Helio to an extent. The pump allows for some great combat tricks too, esp with the tokens. He is the weakest god in testing, but he adds a lot in the control matchup, so I'd prefer to keep him, as I find that match up a bit hard tbh.

I REALLY love this build! Anger of the Gods is really weird in this deck though, for it kills a lot of your own creatures. I would think 2 more Mizzium Mortars would be better. +1

Had some success with this last week. Top4ed Went 3-1 going 2-0 vs Athreos Humans, 2-0 vs Junk Constellation, 2-1 against BUG Midrange and 1-2 vs Junk Constallation.

Had a funny scenario against the Junk deck I ended up beating. I was stuck on 5 mana (1 blue) and a couple of revs and removal spells in hand with Purphoros and Heliod out. He had one attacker that was too big for my removal - Doomwake Giant so when he attacks, I just made a 2/1 for 3 turns straight burning him for 2. My fun ended when he topped a Banishing Light (Heliod). He said afterwards that while he could see the funny side, it was really annoying.

I'm looking at making it a slightly more aggro build by fitting in Soldier of the Pantheon mainboard. Just not sure how. Anger has been AMAZING, but to fit in 4 Soldiers, my cuts right now would be 1 Ephara, 2 Anger (to side) and 1 Captain.

TheGamer, Anger mained has been testing amazingly. The format is about mana dorks and low toughness utility creatures (at least in my area). Anger blows them out so hard.

In my build it hits, Captain, Reckoner and tokens. I'm not to bad on it hitting Reckoner as I can take out a 6 toughness thing (I've even killed people with this combo).

I don't cast it unless i have to really. I'm fine with trading my Reckoner and Captain (and Anger I guess) for 3-4 or their ramp creatures and either 3 to the face or their beater.

Updated. Made it slightly more aggro with +3 Soldier of the Pantheon and +1 Spear of Heliod for -1 Deicide (to side), -2 Anger (to side) and -1 Elspeth.

I had a friend test this last night and he went 2-0 in all games but the final where he got 2-1ed.

He said the both Purphoros and Sphinx's Rev were dead in hand a fair bit. Rev's b/c the game never lasted that long and Purph because he was already that far ahead it wasn't needed. He has suggested siding Purphoros for Control Matchups and maining another Mortars. However he was playing against aggro all night and the deck has a great aggro matchup.

What do you guys think?

Checked out the deck a bit. I can see what you are trying to achieve with this deck and after play testing it's not to bad. All you need is to clean up the deck list. Time for some addition and subtraction. Subtract Turn / Burn , Warleader's Helix , Precinct Captain , and Banishing Light to add 1x Mizzium Mortars 2x Cyclonic Rift 3x Young Pyromancer , 1x Detention Sphere . Drop 1 Plains for 1 Mountain . Other then that the only thing that needs some cleaning up is your sideboard, some major cleaning up lol.

Sideboard: 2x Boros Charm 3x Deicide 1x Stormbreath Dragon 3x Peak Eruption 3x Pithing Needle 1x Elspeth, Sun's Champion 1x Cyclonic Rift 1x Mizzium Mortars

Thanks for taking a look :).

What's your reasoning for these changes? I can understand Pyro for Captain, just due to how he is in the meta. But why cut Helix and Turn/Burn?

With those changes, I have no instant speed removal apart from bounce, and no way to deal with a Mistcutter except battle, Ol Rift, Charm (double strike) and Elspeth.

Why Peak Eruption? I'm really confused here.

August 6, 2014 11:01 p.m.

ElderSage says... #17

Peak Eruption for hard red matchups. Warleader's Helix just doesn't cut it in standard, if you really want some instant removal go Lightning Strike . Imo with the way the current meta is Mistcutter Hydra isn't enough of a reason to force instant removal into your deck. Early mistcutter won't deal much dmg and can be removed easily with mizzium. Late game leaving mana for your opponents turn even without instant removal makes a strong bluff and with create tough decisions for your opponent. If I was to really spruce this deck up it would require to many changes, so I am just helping enough so that your deck still plays to your playstyle.

corranhorn01 says... #18

That's fair. I'm not great at meta analysis tbh.

Out of curiosity, if you have the time. What would the list be after a full spruce? It might actually give me some more ideas :D.

Ok, so took this to Games Day and had a pretty good day. There were 20 people (not large, I know).

R1 vs Mono B Discard

Nothing of note here, He went +3 off a Waste Not and Mind Rot and still lost G1 easily. G2 was him going to 2 and getting stuck on 2 land.

R2 vs UW Control (ft Trading Post, Doom Engine, etc)

I got stuck on 4 lands and got destroyed in G1

Sided: -3 Mortars -1 Heliod -1 Ephara -2 honestly can't remember +2 Needle 2 Deicide +2 Boros Charm +1 Stormbreath

He got stuck on land and I rode a Stormie to victory

G3 was Soldier for most of the game, but Stormie helped too.

R3 vs RG Monsters

I opened the exact counter hand to what he had.

Sided: -1 Soldier -2 Pryo -2 ??? +1 Elspeth +2 Eruption +1 Mortars +1 Rift

Really close game. I got stuck on land and then dropped back to back Elspeths for -3 getting 2 creatures. I also got Eruption off which was nice :D

R4 vs Mono GOL Mortars wins games

Sided: +2 Needle +1 Elspeth +1 Mortars +1 Rift -4 Soldier -1 ???

I lost due to him opening nuts

G3 was basically see G1

So I finish swiss on 4-0

Top 8 vs Mono RI lose G1 due to mana screw (stuck on 4 land and keep drawing Stormies and Elspeth

Sided: - high end + mortars, rift, charms

I stomp G2 with an opening of 2 D.Spheres and 3 Soldiers

I narrowly win G3 with a timely Rift sealing the game.

Top 4: vs GW Aggro

I very narrowly lose G1. In the end it was just he drew slightly better.

Sided in Rift, mortars, charms and a needle for high end

I went to 6 and kept a hand I thought would be fine (Soldier, Charm, Rift, Mortars, Brimaz and RW Temple). Then went on to draw my 2nd land at T5. I ended up shocking it and Charming myself so he didn't technically kill me :D.

I'm really liking this version. Thank you ElderSage for the sugestions!

No problem, one of my rules with opening hands is never settle with only 1 land. There are exceptions but even then it's still risky.

I was leaning towards mulling, but decided to keep because it was a temple. Stupidly.

Taking this to the World Qualifier. Anyone see anything that could be changed? I'm currently debating swapping Young Pyromancer for Goblin Rabblemaster

September 2, 2014 10:16 p.m.

corranhorn01 says... #23

Tried out the change last night. Ended up going 4-1.

R1 Vs Dega Kill all the things (he ran 6 creature, Mogis and removal) - beat me 2 weeks ago in finalG1 I kept a decent hand and end up winning with Purphoros burn

G2 I draw no creatures until his hand is only removal...

G3 Draw decently and smush his face.

1-0

R2 vs Mono B Enchantments (no constellation triggers) - got paired down

G1 I get my face hit in by Master of the Feast (this deck struggles against massive flyers)

G2 He draws really threat light with little removal and I draw threat heavy.

G3 Is one really close game. He does T3 Master, I decide to drop Brmiz instead of D. Sphereing. Next turn he goes Master into Thoughtseize and takes the only relevant card (Sphere). Thankfully I rip a D.Sphere :D.

2-0

R3 vs MBD

G1 and 2 are very similar. I get super flooded each game.

2-1

R4 vs Bant Control ft Fleecemane and Voice

G1 I smashed him. Rabble 'baited' a Verdict and then out comes Stormbreath

G2 I got blown out by a Dissipate and Wurm Token that had 3 +1s from Ajani

G3 I nearly got blown out by an overloaded Rift. But topped Reckoner x2 when he was swinging with a 5/5 Voice token and redirected to him. He's tapped out, I'm on 4 land with a Stormie in hand and both of us are on 3. I ripped the non-temple land.

3-1

R5 vs Mono G

G1 He was stuck on 2 land and i D.Sphered 2 Mystics.

G2 Was a lot closer (with me mulling to 5) and he flooded. I hit 2 Voyaging Satyrs with Sphere this time and sat on a Reckoner. I Boros Charmed when his Polkranos tried to eat my Stormie, then bashed and dropped Elspeth (negged) and just rode her to victory.

4-1 finishing 3rd

Deck is testing REALLY well. I need to take a good look at my boarding and figure out roughly what to take out. Rabble is staying over the Pyromancer so far. He's doing SO much more.
