The Roar Heard Across the Multiverse

Commander / EDH Artifact Cats GW (Selesnya) Jank

Mighty_Devil_1

This is the pride and joy of all of my EDH Decks, as it is the best 100% proxy-free EDH deck I own (I also own the Naya Populate and Sultai Morph decks of C19 but haven't done anything to them other than add a card to the SM).

The Roar Heard Across the Multiverse

This deck is all about beefing up a cat or two and swinging in for massive amounts of damage and gaining all that sweet life points!

Why play this deck? Well do you want to say you swung in for almost 300 trample damage with lifelink? Cause I most certainly have! Also, Cats!

Why not play this deck? If you want to consistently win your EDH games, or if your playgroup is anti-Tribal/anti-Creature/anti-Artifact, because I can promise you this deck will not work very well in those groups. Or alternatively, if you just don't like cats.

This deck I will admit has several weaknesses. Any sort of creature hate is most certainly going to grind this deck down a lot. Same with artifact hate, but at least there is still a shot at winning the match, as there are other cards to buff up the cats that are not artifacts.

This deck is objectively powerful when and only when it is mostly left to it's own devices at the table. Your goal is to politic and build up your mana base during the early-midgame, then explode out with a bunch of artifacts auto-equipping to a cat or two, and swinging in for unblockable/trample lethal damage at whoever is still alive.

Due to the sheer number of cats/artifacts, and the virtue of the deck's Commander Eminence ability, this deck is extraordinarily consistent, being able to almost always have a cat out and some level of equipment on it.

With that in mind, let's get into strategy!

Your objective in the early games is to build up your mana base with ramp, and oh boy is there a bit of that.

Once you have established a base, you need to decide base on the board state when best to play Mirari's Wake/Zendikar Resurgent. While not necessary, they will make your next turn much more explosive.

While you are bidding your time, you may be casting a few cats, either for defense or removal. Unless you wish to make yourself a target before you are ready, do not start throwing out the BIG cards, nor start tapping out for all of your Equipments and cats.

With a solid mana base, you should have by this time one or several cats out. It's by this time that getting Arahbo out with at least left over should be your priority. With him and his boost active, all of a sudden cats like Sacred Cat go from 1/1 with Lifelink to 8/8 with lifelink. Just a thought.

By this point if you haven't already, you should have either Sigarda's Aid/Hammer of Nazahn out, or Taj-Nar Swordsmith/Nazahn, Revered Bladesmith and Fleetfoot Panther/Temur Sabertooth to get out some of the equipment.

Use Heirloom Blade,Herald's Horn, or Soul's Majesty to go through the deck a tad faster and find your cats quicker.

Now we begin the endgame. Beef up your cats with equipment, or with other cats like Arahbo, Roar of the World, Raksha Golden Cub, Qasali Pridemage, and Regal Caracal. Alternatively go super wide with White Sun's Zenith, Kemba, Kha Regent, Jedit Ojanen of Efrava, and Regal Caracal, and then bump them up massively with Arahbo.

If you need a way to get the damage through, well Arahbo's second ability gives trample, but there is also Kitesail, Cobbled Wings, Behemoth Sledge, Loxodon Warhammer, Sword of Vengeance, Trailblazer's Boots, or take to the air with Kemba's Skyguard and Skyhunter Prowler.

Now there is exactly 1 alternative wincon in this deck - Lost Leonin. As you should be well aware, it takes exactly 10 Infect damage, or poison counters, to kill a player in Commander and most other formats. Which means with Arahbo, we can swing in with a 5/4 Infect on turn 3, and possibly more later on! Kill your opponents faster than they can even generate a boardstate!

Like any regular deck, if your starting hand has less than two lands, you should mulligan. On the flip side however with this deck, should you have a hand of 4-7 lands, you can also keep that too! Remember, this deck is all about patience and waiting for the right time to pounce!

The absolute best hand you can draw out is Lost Leonin, Loxodon Warhammer, Hammer of Nazahn, Sol Ring, and a mix of Plains/Forests or untapped land for the last three.

That hand would play out like the following:

1) Plains -> Sol Ring

2) Forest -> Lost Leonin

3) Choice of Land -> Hammer of Nazahn Equip onto Lost Leonin, move to Combat and give him the Eminence of +3/+3, making Lost Leonin a 7/4 Indestructible Infect, swing if you like.

4) Choice of Land -> Loxodon Warhammer, Auto-equip onto Lost Leonin, and now every time you move to combat you will have a 10/4 Indestructible Trample Infect, or in otherwords, lethal damage on anybody.

Yeah. Turn 4 you can have lethal damage on people with this deck.

Alternatively:

4) Choice of Land -> Bring out Arahbo, Roar of the World. 5) Choice of Land -> Move to combat, give LL the Eminence (boosting him to 7/4), then pay and blast him up to a 14/11 Indestructible Trample Infect, which is still lethal to any single person. The downside of this over the other is that LL is a 3/2 Indestructible Infect after/before your turn, while before he was a 5/2 Indestructible Trample Infect. The upside is this pairing requires one less card, though it does also require one extra turn.

There are two cards I am on the fence about, Abundance and Kindred Dominance. On one hand, they get the cats out of the library faster, or in the case of Abundance, non-cats. On the other, they leave the deck wide open to boardwipes, which would be significantly more devastating, especially going from White Sun's Zenith into Kindred Dominance. They were originally both in here, but I took them out in favor of other cats as they ended up either distracting/slowing down my boardstate, or I would get boardwiped so hard that even coming in second would be a nightmare of a challenge.

So let me know in the comments what you all think of this deck, and check out my other decks! Or even take a look at Lantern's Halloween deck that I transposed from MTGSalvation onto here. The reason was that his last update was Rivals, and I felt like spreading his awesome deck around would increase the amount of people with suggestions on improving the deck. It's a Five-Color Scarecrow Halloween deck that is surprisingly very strong, and Lantern even left a list after it for players to choose what other cards would still fit the theme and change the heading of the deck.
