I've been thinking about building a scarecrow deck centered around the Reaper King and this is a work of art. I mean this is absolutely bonkers, nice work!

I would like to recommend 4 Radiant Fountain in place of 2 Swiftwater Cliffs and 2 Dismal Backwater, and maybe 3 Cavern of Souls in place of 3 Island, because Radiant Fountain nets you more life and you can use it right away, and Cavern of Souls just ends any sort of control deck. I don't think you necessarily need so much blue mana for only a few blue spells, especially when you also have Scuttlemutt.

I also found Tomb of the Spirit Dragon and Dread Statuary which might be of interest to you.

Really enjoy this deck. Have always loved Reaper King. Never had a chance to use him as my scarecrow collection is scarce. BUT I totally approve and may even steal is as my own physical deck because me and my friends are making tribal decks

Glad you like it! Thanks for the comments! I'm surprised, but happy to see how many people liked the scarecrows and was looking for a decent deck.

Thanks again!

Chromatic Lantern ? in case you dont draw Scarecrone, you can just hard cast the king for 5 mana...?

Yeah! Great! I just can't tell why was I ignoring the Lantern... I mean Is a GREAT artifact for this deck. I think I keept just reading the second ability or something.

What to swap then? (That's always my problem). Thank you!

If you're not looking to bring this to a modern FNM and your just playing casually you could run the Grindstone + Painter's Servant infinite combo! Its fast and effective! But remember its not modern legal.

I love this deck! +1 What could I do to make it a bit more budget though? Would replacing the Scarecrones with Goblin Welders be too bad? Then I would also have colored permanents for lurebound, so I wouldn't need Painter's Servant as much either.

Actually, as stated on the "Cards" section, she's "Essential as the Reaper King". This deck does not work without her... well, maybe it may do in a way, but in a really crappy way. Remember that she's not only here to bring back the straw guys, but also for the card drawing, scarecrow sacrifice (which is the same ability, but depending on the situation, one part may matter more than the other).

Being a scarecrow, she comboes with the King too, both the vindicate, and +1/+1. Also even with herself if two are on the battlefield. And with every other artifact combo here. So no, please don't remove her.

On the other hand, you may want to take the Painter's Servants and Lurebound Scarecrows away, taking some options from the maybeboard. Those are the other scarecrows that are good enough. I find the rest of them to be useless, too situation-dependent, or pure crap. (even though the art is amazing). With those in the Maybeboard, you can try to make a flying army in order to compensate with the lack of strenght: One-Eyed Scarecrow, Pili-Pala, Watchwing Scarecrow, Wingrattle Scarecrow. Thing is, this last two are not good without colored permanents. On the other hand, Lockjaw Snapper is a pretty acceptable scarecrow by himself to consider.

Academy Ruins can be easily taken away to reduce budget as well.

Also, sorry for the late response, been pretty busy lately, and wanted to explain as exhaustive as possible.

I've always loved the scarecrow cards but never bothered with them because I never thought they were that good. looks like a really fun deck to play in casual tho. +1 :)

Thanks for the response. I guess she really is essential to the deck. But I think I would still take out the painters for budget. Still, great job on the :)

Have you thought about master of etherium? Or does he not fit the theme of the deck.

Actually it is a very good card, and perfect for the deck "mindset" but I feel that the Darksteel Juggernaut fills best the "not a scarecrow but I'm helping" slot. Would not have two of those slots tho. The vindicate effect is very powerful and central to this deck.

Besides, it's a bit pricey too.

But the whole

This is a cool deck. I didn't know there were scarecrow cards.

Have you considered Phyrexian Metamorph? It's an artifact, it can come down as any of the scarecrows you have and trigger the King, or you can use it to copy whatever else you want. I think in this deck it offers a good bit of utility.

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon could be pretty good in this deck, that -10 goes off and reaper King is out...

That price tho.

It's amazing actually. I'll add him to the "Excellent options for main or sideboard (but out of my budget)" then.

Thanks! :)

I love the addition of Pili-Pala, I just think it completes the deck

I was just looking around at artifact untap abilities, would you ever consider trying Voltaic Construct/Clock of Omens? I understand that it requires more setup, but having the ability to use Scarecrone more than once would be valuable. On the other hand, Unwinding Clock does do this job fairly well.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum do you think that Painter's Servant or Semblance Anvil could possibly be removed to make space for counter magic? The anvil is good for setting up more quickly but I feel like losing a card and spending that mana may not be quite worth it.

Don't worry if you don't want to take any of these suggestions, I am more just thinking out loud and I'd like to know what you think about these options since you've played the deck far more often than I have. I really like how far this deck has come!

Thank you so much! I must say I'm pretty proud of this deck, and how it worked. Even when an opponent exiled all my scarecrones I was able to beat him .Twice.

One of the biggest weaknesses this deck has are Board-wipes, so I need to work on that, at least for the sideboard. Counter magic, like Stoic Rebuttal is one of the ways.

Yes, Semblance Anvil is not that necessary now, but it really helps. Although it can be switched with Sideboard if necessary.

And Painter's is still good and works well with Architect, but as said, can be replaced with one of the guys in the "Other decent Scarecrows" list.

As for tapping and untapping Scarecrone, I got gifted a Umbral Mantle, that can also make the crone infinitely powerful. Literally.Voltaic Construct seems excellent too, maybe better, and can also be retrieved from the grave. If I can get my hands on one I'd like to try it.

Thanks for the suggestion and the support!

This is beautiful. I've been planning on building Scarecrow deck for a while now and I thought I'd search for some and, alas, I found this.

The deck is gorgeous and I'm building it as we speak, struggling to get items on PucaTrade though. I'm excited, I play infect in modern but this excited me.

Please keep updating this page as it has my attention.

Bravo air, bravo

Well, we'll see whats coming. Hoping Kaladesh has something for the straw guys.

Hehosworld says... #24

Well I hope so, Kaladesh ought to have some good additions. I think that Padeem might help protect and fuel the combo. Well, as you said, we'll have to wait and hope. The Deck is quite fun to play apart from the whole scarecrows are awesome part. If you have any suggestions I would love to test them in my playgroup.
