After seeing DailyMTG's Infinity on a Budget post, I decided to make it a bit more budget.
Now, my main problem with the original deck was that it used shock lands, so you can generate infinite mana with Arbor Elf. Since those sell for about $20 a piece, I decided to replace the Shock Lands with Guildgates and the Arbor Elf with
Greenside Watcher
, as they provide the same thing, only that the Gates have a slower startup.
If you are wondering what this deck does, it's basically this:
1) Find and send out your
Civilized Scholar
2) Find and equip as many Illusionist's Bracers as you want on said Scholar.
3) Draw a card with the ability. Because it is an activated ability, draw 1 more card for each Bracer on said Scholar.
4) Discard two creature cards.
5) Because you discarded two creature cards, the Scholar untaps and transforms twice BACK into the Scholar.
6) Rinse and repeat.
By doing this, you will be hopefully able to mill yourself pretty well. In the end, just drop a Laboratory Maniac and draw for the win.
If you were wondering what I was talking about with my infinite mana thing, this is how it goes:
1)
Greenside Watcher
2) Illusionist's Bracers on said Watcher
3) Gate.
4)
Galvanic Alchemist
, bonded onto said Watcher
5) Tap Gate for mana.
6) Use the Watcher to untap the gate twice, netting you two extra mana. (Total mana: 3)
7) Use the untap ability from the Alchemist to untap the Watcher
8) Because the untap is an activated ability, the Watcher untaps twice.
9) Use Step 6 again in between the two Watcher untaps.
10) In the end, you will have a crapton more mana than when you started. (Approximately one)
Also, if anyone asks, I threw in black because
1) I needed more guildgates
2) Grisly Salvage.
I run
Zameck Guildmage
and
Boneyard Wurm
and Splinterfright for a backup Midrange.
Closing Notes:
I still need a sideboard, so please give me some ideas!
This is one of my favorite gimmick engines, so I really had a fun time thinking this deck through!
I only run one Splinterfright because I don't need the mill to mill my Maniacs away, and because I don't use the Midrange function very often.
Thank you for taking the time to look at this!
