Okay for further analysis I'd like to explain some of the removal spells in here that I never got to.

Pharika's Cure is a card that probably raised some eyebrows. What this card does is deal with early game creatures that you don't want to waste a removal on and gains some life helping you pat your life total a little.

Hero's Downfall deals with pesky anti-control planeswalkers like Xenagos or Sorin, Lord of Innistrad as well as killing creatures.

Sever the Bloodline deals with zombies, tokens, and Clone s. As well as having a flashback to do it again!

Hey man you commented on my deck thanks for the input. I have some suggestions for your deck.

I really like the card Vampire Nighthawk they are pretty cheap and having four in your deck would be nice. Just think about the card, take a look at it. It has flying, nice way to get around other creatures, it has deathtouch, so even if your opponent has a flying creature and blocks your nighthawk it will still die and in some cases you will two-for-one your opponent if they have to block you. Finally we come to the most important part of the card LIFELINK, this is ridiculous. Because of the deathtouch and flying even if this creature becomes blocked it will automatically kill anything that blocks it. So even after being blocked you will still gain two life VIA lifelink. Now put something like Blade of the Bloodchief on your nighthawk. Then he becomes an deathmachine.

Thanks,I'll totally consider The Nighthawk I don't think there are enough creatures in here for Blade of Bloodchief though. Thank you so much for commenting!

Shouldn't Thoughtseize be in this?

December 10, 2013 6:16 p.m.

lswainbank says... #7

Yeah I was thinking about that, but the problem with Thoughtseize is that is does the same thing as Distress or Despise or Duress sort of as well as the two life and against aggro I already run Sign in Blood so the two life is dangerous if I don't gain it back.

Maybe consider a Reckless Spite ?

lswainbank says... #9

Thanks but five life is way to much, aggro would squash me after that.

maybe play a drown in sorrow.

That's a good idea I'll playtest with it and see if it helps.

How is your land count holding up? I feel, even with all the removal to keep your opponent controlled, you need some more lands to hit your win conditions. Either that or add some more draw cards or mana dorks. Just my opinion, would need to playtest to see how it does. +1 from me!

Crypt Ghast would be sick in this deck, ramp into all those big cards real fast, Solemn Simulacrum can help with ramp/draw/defense, Liliana of the Dark Realms is good for hunting down more land and her emblem solves all your mana problems (run two maybe?), Mind Stone can help with the colorless costs and can later draw a card,

I mana usually holds up very well (or a little to well). I do see the advantage of Solemn Simulacrum and I way put him in. I'll see how he does when playtested. Thanks for the +1

February 27, 2014 7:06 a.m.

I think Crypt Ghast may help. When i playtested your deck I would frequently get hands with all high drops, or draw into them with no way to get them out easily. That's why I think a couple more lands and/or Crypt Ghast would help. Obviously if you have real world playtesting that trumps my random-dude-critique, but that is just my feeling from playing through 4 or 5 hands.

I'm really not sure about Crypt Ghast I almost always draw to many lands in one game. Mostly ranging from 10-16 by the end of the game which makes Corrupt an amazing card. So mana isn't much of a problem.

On a side note what do you think of Erebos, God of the Dead in my deck because i'm playtesting with him right now.

By the way Solemn Simulacrum works wonders so thanks.

This deck is pretty sweet, but I have, after play testing it a couple times, found that it doesnt do well vs. another control deck. Most others its great though! +1 from me. Also, check out my monoblack deck http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/black-mana-ramp-09-03-14-1/

do you have any suggestions against another control deck. Maybe more Duress ?I dont know of many anti-control mono black cards so could you give me some ideas?

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Heartless Summoning because the average cmc here is atrocious.

lswainbank says... #21

What devotion does nykthos get? If I wanted to make this a turn 3 Griselbrand deck I would have put in more ramp. That is not the point of this deck. It is a control deck. Not aggro. That is why i have 25 lands, 1 land a turn is enough for me. I find that you have more time to discard the opponents removal spells this way.

HydraOoze says... #22

I think that 25 lands might actually be high I would take one out and put in Crypt Ghast also I would a a Phyrexian Obliterator I know it's a expinsive card but it's worth it. Nice deck though +1

Love mono-black. Check mine out, it has my favorite, Griselbrand ! Deeds to Darkness and this deck is a total +1 from me.

lswainbank says... #24

Thanks for the +1 I will take a look at your deck.

March 29, 2014 3:51 p.m.

Ah, this brings back memories. My first deck ever was a mono-black Modern ramp. The problem is that even with all this removal, may decks just either don't care (Like Affinity) or pump them out too fast for you to handle (Like Red Deck Wins) Or there are too many for you to handle (Like Splinter Twin ) You need something that will bring out fatties faster, like Quicksilver Amulet .
