The Slabs of Fate

Casual

MalariaJones

A janky casual combo deck. This deck is weak, inconsistent, and slow as molasses. However, it's also funny, unconventional, and really cheap to build.

The premise of the deck is to win by resolving Stomping Slabs three times. This sounds pretty simple until you actually read the card. In a vacuum, it seems highly unlikely to ever deal damage reliably. In order to get there, you need to jump through a few hoops.

To start, you'll be using Manipulate Fate and Foresight to exile all four Stomping Slabs from your library, as well as a Mirror of Fate and as many copies of Misthollow Griffin you care to have at hand later. Looter il-Kor and Relic of Progenitus are present in case you draw into one of the Stomping Slabs: You can either cast the Slabs or discard it with the Looter, then exile it with the Relic. In the mean time, you'll be trying to draw into or tutor up another copy of Mirror of Fate using Fabricate.

Once all four Stomping Slabs are exiled and you have the Mirror in play, you'll be ready to proceed. Activate the Mirror and stack your deck with the four Stomping Slabs and the Mirror of Fate you exiled earlier, as well as with whatever else you care to recur. Now your next three castings of Stomping Slabs are guaranteed to deal damage, and you can ensure you draw into them over the next few turns.

Misthollow Griffin is extremely useful, as its ability to be cast from exile means that it's pretty consistently available to you during the mid and late-game. The Griffin can either serve you as an evasive beater, or, if you have a Relic of Progenitus out to exile it from grave, as a continual blocker.

Lastly, Fog Bank and AEther Membrane should prove themselves very useful at keeping you alive in the face of other, more aggressive decks. Fog Bank is, of course, virtually unkillable in combat, and AEther Membrane's bounce ability is a highly effective deterrent to attackers.
