I mostly +1-ed because after seeing your deck, I was able to take away a few suggestions of cards that would fit in with my current project over at All American Wide Receiver. However, since I'm here, why not add some Hurkyl's Recall to the sideboard. If AEther Vial gets through, bounce it and then be set up to counter it the next turn.

Next point is really a general wonderment on my part. What is the play of Spreading Seas on the sideboard? What purpose does it serve? Card draw, sure. Shutting down an important land, sure. But, surely there are better uses for the space. I'm interested to see its uses because I may apply them to my own stuff.

Thanks, SandyDufresne! I have just copied this list straight from SaffronOlive's article and have yet to make changes. Hurkyl's Recall would be a good addition for the affinity matchup as well- one that I expect to be near impossible for this deck to win.

Spreading Seas is one of our only ways of slowing down Tron, other than countering everything. It's also good against decks with "greedy" mana bases- even things like Jund, Junk, etc. are hurt by turning one of their early lands into an Island. I agree that a full set is too many, so maybe that could be where we find the room for Hurkyl's Recall.

Hello! I saw this deck a few weeks ago when it was first making the rounds and I've since changed a LOT about the deck while still trying to keep the general spirit of it intact - if you're interested and want to chat about mono Blue at all (I've now been playing this for weeks and it's been GREAT!) then let me know. Us mono blue players have to stick together, ya know?

Hi jamoncito- thank you for the comment! I took a look at your list and liked how you changed the land base a bit to include Miren, the Moaning Well and Academy Ruins. I've adjusted this list to include that change as well. I haven't played the deck enough to make major changes, but I did notice that the Chariot was a little too cute. I've removed both, plus a Spell Snare and Stubborn Denial, for a set of Delver of Secrets  Flip. I'm not sure how it will work out, but I'm about to do some testing so we'll see!

Thank you as well, TheAlexGnan. I'll respond to each of your suggestions below, but I will preface my responses by saying that the majority of this list is copy-pasted. I've been testing over the past few days, and agree with many of your suggestions.

I've been working on including Mana Leak, but I haven't been able to pinpoint a weak link in the counter suite. Stubborn Denial is probably the worst, but has also saved me in many situations where no other counter could have saved me. It works surprisngly well with Plumeveil (which is also hilarious to flash in and kill something).

I'm currently running three Spell Snare. Perhaps you missed it, or mean Spell Pierce?

I've kept the white splash in the back of my mind throughout testing. I wanted to get comfortable with the mono-blue iteration and identify exactly what I would need the splash to add before doing it. Most of this is pretty obvious though- main Path to Exile and possibly a Supreme Verdict or two, and side Rest in Peace, Stony Silence, and Timely Reinforcements. The land is not a problem (and I have it all anyways).

What do you think about running 1-2x Fabricate to find Shackles or an Engine?

May 15, 2016 3:52 p.m.

Treasure Mage would be incredible if it could find Shackles too, and that's the main thing I want to make sure I get each game.

Right. I forgot those were still in here. Hah. They're not as bad as you'd imagine, but they're still not great. I've already added in the Leaks over the Delvers, so what else could I add in their place?

Have you thought of Isochron Scepter? If you stick a counter spell on there, you don't have to worry about running out of counters! Also if a creature gets by your counters, it might be nice to have something like Vapor Snag to take care of those creatures, and you could put the snag on the scepter as well if you wanted!

May 15, 2016 7:22 p.m.

Thank you for your suggestions, Havok.Bane! I had not thought of Isochron Scepter. My issue with it is that it takes up my Turn-2 play, and also becomes less relevant in the late game as I'm already well positioned if I even make it to the late game.

I do like Vapor Snag, as I've been relying on Cryptic Command to bounce the creatures that get past my counters and are too big to Shackle. I'll look into testing with some of them in the mainboard- do you have thoughts as to what to remove?

I'm not a big fan of how expensive Confirm Suspicions is to cast, so I'd probably take those out and 1 Plumeveil or 1 Condescend for 3 Vapor Snag

May 15, 2016 7:48 p.m.

Right, I forgot about Suspicions again. I'm going to try out two in place of them, and adjust if I find the need. Thanks Havok.Bane!

Being an Islands deck, Engulf the Shore could be the Supreme Verdict substitute that you're looking for. Also, as far as spot removal replacements for Path to Exile, there is always Pongify/Rapid Hybridization.
