Maybeboard

Embrace the twisted piousness of a corrupted religion, cast aside your adversaries, and claim supremacy in the name of a darkened faith. Let the dogmas of this wicked congregation dictate the course of your battles and bring salvation to those who bow before your dominion.

Step into the shadowed sanctum of the Orzhov Stax, a malevolent creation meticulously designed to mirror the twisted semblance of a corrupted religious order. Led by the nefarious Kambal, Consul of Allocation, this unholy congregation seeks to exploit faith, impose oppressive doctrines, and drain the life force of its adversaries.

As the commander, Kambal stands as the personification of maleficence and religious authority. His presence instills fear and trepidation, punishing the insolent with every act of spellcasting, siphoning their vitality and leaving them weakened. Kambal's embodiment of the corrupt religious hierarchy sets the tone for the deck's theme, rooted in the dark echoes of the Catholic Church.

Within this deck, the tenets of the oppressive religion are upheld with ruthless efficiency. Every card, meticulously chosen, reflects the iron grip of dogma and the suppression of individuality. Clerics, priests, and zealots take center stage, wielding their spiritual dominance to enforce order and subjugate opposition.

The oppressive enchantments and tax effects woven throughout the deck mirror the suffocating rituals and oppressive laws of this corrupted faith. Opponents will find themselves shackled by the weight of their own actions, burdened by the toll exacted upon them with each spell cast or life gained. Blind Obedience and Authority of the Consuls exemplify the church's stifling grasp, stifling opposing strategies and inhibiting the freedom of movement.

The key to this deck is being willing to slow yourself down as you slow down everyone around you. Like any good tax representative, Kambal is all about patience and making people wait. . . and wait. . . . and wait. The key here is to have patience in taxing your opponents while also being willing to suffer second-hand tax effects yourself.

Some notable combos to help 'speed' along the bureaucracy and fully tax your opponents into oblivion:

Mana Web and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth One spell per turn.

Contaminationfoil and Bitterblossom Black mana only.

Nobody likes taking the time to tax someone who has an abundance of resources and could weasel their way out of payment. Freeze those assets.

Humility No dependents allowed on tax deductions, remove them from all consideration.

Static Orbfoil and Hokori, Dust Drinker each can combine with The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. Don't allow interlopers and creatures to cause you pain, keep your opponents assets tied up in keeping their family afloat.

Keep opponents and tax dodgers from pulling from existing resources with Chains of Mephistopheles + Necropotence. Watch your opponents hand dwindle and fade as you slowly build your combos and watch them mill out. It's slow, it's painful. But played early and played right you'll mill everyone out with you being last; the key to this is dropping Necropotence and forcing others to mill away while you laugh away. Including Waste Not will make your taxation efforts yield additional dividends.

Tax dodgers will attempt to search for answers to your inquiries. Ob Nixilis, Unshackled and Aven Mindcensor will keep them from attempting to negate your taxation.

Exquisite Blood and Sanguine Bond. . . . Bleed your debtors dry

Debt to the Deathless can repeat with Yawgmoth's Will

Make those final tallies and collect payment. With proper mana set up with Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth this can end the game extremely fast.
