Oh, ok cool. Just checking, new to the game technically speaking. And thank you, I'm so glad the guild will be standard once more :D

What are your thoughts on Undercity Informer and Lord of the Void

January 15, 2013 4:43 p.m.

@ambeault I think Undercity Informer would not be good in this type of Mill deck, but rather in one revolving around Undead Alchemist . Lord of the Void looks nice, but is too restrictive, considering his high CMC and black mana requirements. I might run a one-of of him.

hmmm undead alchemist and undercity informer is nice,

lord of the void is definitely a reanimator toy.

Havengul Lich could have a place in here. He's a little expensive, but casting the opponent's creatures after you mill them is always fun. Although, without building the deck around him (i.e. deck:i-hope-you-lich-control) he can be hard to manage.

While useful, I don't think he'd do much good in this specific type of deck.

Yea, just thought I'd throw an idea out

I've actually been considering splashing white for Drogskol Reaver , Azorius Charm , and Detention Sphere , but I'm not sure. I might just drop 4 islands for Glacial Fortress and then have Detention Sphere in the sideboard.

Maybe a Chromatic Lantern ? In my esper edh, I use a lot of graveyard and hand stealing, so I need to make sure I can cast those stolen cards. The same should be true for you if you are gonna run nightveil spec and the lich.

Just my two cents.

That's actually a pretty good idea.

+1. Looks like so much fun. Do you mind if people make this IRL?

@nothingbutblue If you want to make it, go for it! I plan on making this when Gatecrash comes around.

This deck is so completely, and utterly, destructively mean. The most wtf combo is dual triggering Duskmantle Guildmage while activating Jace, Memory Adept 's 0 ability. O.o I absolutely love this deck. So well built! Milling has never been so lethal, until this deck. +1 :D

How does this do VS aggro decks? I ran a hardcore control deck and lost like crazy to my friend's control deck, so I can't imagine that this type of deck with little control would live enough to get a good creature out

I share zes' concern for dealing with aggro decks. Boros is probably going to be a huge threat to deal with. While I like the deck you have constructed here, I think it needs more control or it's going to get steamrolled. I've been trying to figure out a solution to this issue. One way to solve this problem would be to splash white, making the deck Esper, so one could run Detention Sphere or Oblivion Rings. Besides the downside of requiring more mana fixing, exiling threats doesn't synergize with Lazav or Consuming Aberration. The other way I thought of to tweak this deck is:

(Sorry for the lack of formatting)

Creature (13)3x Consuming Aberration2x Crypt Ghast4x Duskmantle Guildmage2x Lazav, Dimir Mastermind2x Nightveil SpecterSorcery (10)2x Increasing Confusion4x Mind Grind4x Mind SculptLand (21)4x Drowned Catacomb7x Island2x Nephalia Drownyard4x Swamp4x Watery GraveInstant (9)2x Cyclonic Rift3x Dimir Charm4x Thought ScourEnchantment (4)4x Soul RansomPlaneswalker (3)3x Jace, Memory AdeptSideboard (15)2x Evil Twin1x Chromatic Lantern4x Dream Twist2x Fog Bank2x Illusionist's Bracers4x Essence Scatter

Soul Ransom takes/removes a threat and causes them to either waste removal on their own creature, or discard to give you card advantage. I think it's a good way to gain card advantage, remove a threat, and fuel Lazav and Aberration. I also moved the Evil Twin x2 to the sideboard in favor of two more Guildmages with the hopes of speeding up the Guildmage + Jace/mill combo.

4x Hands of binding would work if he had unblockable creatures, but there are alternatives like fog bank, encrust, ultimate price, sever the bloodline and things he can sideboard in

Wow... well done here! +1 for sure! I was thinking a little more creature removal would help against aggro... Tragic Slip ? or maybe maindecking Fog Bank ?

So then technically if you could somehow manage to get Duskmantle Guildmage with like instead of Mind Sculpt lets say I use Traumatize and lets say opponent uses a 60 card deck and has 45 cards left, then that would be like also auto win if not intercepted right?

The Doctor says... #19

Wow. Thank you all, really, for the comments.

I'm probably going to edit the sideboard so that --if needed-- I can transform the deck to have more control-heavy aspects.

Not sure about the card:Illusionist's Bracers because you don't have any activated abilities that aren't mana abilities switch it out with the Trepanation Blade

January 20, 2013 6:01 p.m.

card:Illusionist's Bracers are for Duskmantle Guildmage

Maybe AEtherize to help with Boros/Token decks?

Isn't Duskmantle Guildmage 's ability a mana ability?

January 21, 2013 9:05 a.m.

evil_monkey says... #24

No, mana abilities add mana to your mana pool. Duskmantle mage is great with Illusionost's bracers

January 21, 2013 9:06 a.m.

Jay says... #25

Ohh, I thought it was an ability which was activated by mana. Thanks for clearing that up.
