What are your feelings on Mindmoil and/or Coastal Piracy?

Supertek: Thanks for the comment! I ran them both for a while, but both turned out to be too slow. Mindmoil also made it very difficult to sequence combos or hold up control, and Coastal Piracy doesn't do anything unless my commander is out and has already made several tokens, which is something I try to avoid.

If you owned a Timetwister, what would you cut for it?

This deck is awesome, here's a +1!

i don't really undertsand how you win with Firestorm let's say you draw your entire deck and play firestorm, X can't exceed the number of targets aviable, so how do you manage to win?

Daedalus19876 says... #6

gregcresci: Probably Time Reversal?

FLATSO99: Thanks! :D

Masne98888: If I draw my whole deck with The Locust God on the battlefield, the targets are my opponents, their creatures, and however many Locusts I need to target. If I draw my library WITHOUT The Locust God on the field, I generally cast Winds of Change with 70+ cards in hand THEN cast Firestorm, guaranteeing that there are enough targets. That clear up the question? :)

my friend's locust god list (You can only have 7 cards? HA! I have my Library.) is the strongest at my table so seeing this makes me remember all the (not so) good times he's comboed out. Also, your kill list doesn't make sense, as about 1/4 of those work for Nicol Bolas.

initially your general makes me think of a red/blue token deck but your deck seems to focus more on card draw and mill, having never played that style of deck before i dont feel experienced enough to offer sound advice on it...i am however wondering why you decided to go that route instead of just a traditional token deck?

gdm1989: I know, right? >:D

BelugaWhale217: Clearly they had been corrupted and turned away from His path. They had to be cleansed. Only the truly devout may walk in His holy light.

cascadien: This deck originally was more focused on tokens - it played cards like Purphoros, God of the Forge, Mana Echoes, Bident of Thassa, etc. But it turns out that relying on your 6-mana commander as your primary source of tokens was inefficient and made the deck vulnerable, and combo just fit him better.

Hey, sorry for a very delayed comment. I thought I had posted my comment but it seems I didn’t post it.

I think this is a great deck & I can’t really think of anything to add. Maybe Quest for Ancient Secrets?

If you have Kindred Discovery, I would definitely have a Laboratory Maniac. If you don’t you draw out your deck and you lose. Because it’s not a may for either the god or the Kindred Discovery, it’s a Must. But, if you have a Laboratory Maniac out, it’s almost an auto-win.

Great deck though.

Have you considered trophy mage for the Altars?

Congrats on 600 upvotes!! This deck deserves it!!

What is the reasoning behind Mission Briefing as opposed to Snapcaster Mage? Also, given the use of Opposition, having a creature seems far better than the UU spell.

You can play cards from the graveyard with alternate costs, such as Cyclonic Rift with overload with Mission briefing

Poly_raptor: Kozilek, Butcher of Truth deals with that, mostly, but thanks for the suggestion!

Crawdaddy7399: Honestly, Firestorm handles it better than Laboratory Maniac can. I had Laboratory Maniac in the early versions of this deck, and he really didn't do work: he was dead outside of the combo, and I had to have him on battlefield BEFORE dropping the Kindred Discovery. I appreciate the suggestion but honestly he really just does not fit in this deck, based on my experiences ;)

Skaven123: I have considered it, yeah. It was in here for a little while, and not...BAD? But not really as helpful as I'd hoped :(

FLATSO99: Thanks!! :D

Nahgg: I can't tutor for Snapcaster Mage with Mystical Tutor, it allows me to cast Force of Will and Cyclonic Rift for their alternate costs, and it costs WAY way less in foil XD

Why the Firestorm? You need to have X legal targets. Not up to.

November 18, 2018 12:42 p.m.

PookandPie says... #19

Because if he drew his library to enable Firestorm, then he should have Locust God out, which produces tokens = to the number of cards drawn. So you draw until 1 card is left in the library with 1 draw trigger on stack, cast Firestorm, discard 40 targeting opponents and 37~ insect tokens when you should have like 80 tokens anyway. If Firestorm resolves, great, you win. In the event of Kindred Discovery, he has to either break the loop or win at instant speed.

The alternative is to use Snapback to bounce Locust God when the last trigger is on the stack with 2 cards left in the library, then cast enough fast mana to play Ashnod's Altar, sac more insect tokens to play Isochron Scepter with Dramatic Reversal on it, which would then let him play Locust God, activate his ability and draw the last card, discard Kozilek, and then keep reshuffling the library and drawing to attack with an infinite number of tokens.

There's probably more, but these are the more common routes I use when Kindred Discovery is out.

Daedalus19876 says... #20

Flooremoji: Yep, I know!

It's my wincon from most of my infinite combos: since my infinite combos all automatically create large numbers of insects, between my opponents, all of their creatures, and my insects I'm guaranteed enough targets.

It's also handy to discard 4 cards, hit 4 problem creatures, and cast Wheel of Fortune ;) it has utility at all points in the game.

Daedalus19876 says... #22

PookandPie: Exactly! With that being said, though, I swapped Snapback for Cyclonic Rift (couldn't resist), which can't bounce TLG in the Kindred Discovery combo. That means that I need to win with Firestorm or end the combo with Stifle (luckily, by that point I have counter backup, and Mission Briefing lets me get my solutions back if they're in GY).

Awesome list/deck.

Have you tested Thousand-Year Storm at all? I know it’s probably janky but I want to build a Locust God list around it.

November 27, 2018 9:18 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #25

Gwathnar: Thanks! I tested it, and it didn't do as much as I wanted? Mostly because I don't run any instant or sorceries that produce mana.

If they ban Paradox Engine I may have to experiment with it instead.
