The biggest part of a tribal deck is the creatures, and this deck certainly has no shortage. Starting off with the one drop all-star,
Treefolk Harbinger is a tutor with an admirable 0/3 body, allowing you to fetch a win condition or just some smaller Treefolk. Moving on up to two drops, we have
Bosk Banneret, which makes all of your trees much cheaper to cast by one mana, which can put you ahead.
There are five three-drops included in this deck. The first is
Battlewand Oak
, which gets a boost to power whenever you play a forest or treefolk spell, which can often boost him to high levels of power.
Black Poplar Shaman
may not be too impressive, but the ability to regenerate if you have extra mana can be very useful.
Dungrove Elder
has the potential to get ripped. With his power and toughness being equal to the number of forests you control, he can get out of hand fast. His Hexproof body certainly helps him stay in the game.
Ebony Treefolk
is just a 3/3 body you can pump, which certainly isn't bad.
Heartwood Storyteller
is somewhat of a political card, deterring opponents from killing you so they can benefit. This card also has the potential to benefit you as well.
There are certainly a ton of four drops in here as well. Dauntless Dourbark is the bigger and beefier brother of
Dungrove Elder
, losing hexproof but getting ripped from both forests AND other Treefolk. Leaf-Crowned Elder is an all star. Free treefolks are definitely nice, and it has about a one in four or five chance of activating, which is solid.
Lumberknot
's a little 'un, but in a large EDh game where everything is dying, you'll find he isn't easy to get rid of.
Unstoppable Ash
is at worst a 5/5 for 4, but his ability to beef up his allies when they're blocked is awesome, and potentially a lifesaver. The champion can also protect a creature from a potential board wipe, or allow for certain abilities to be used again. Finally, we have Wickerbough Elder. He starts as a 3/3 for 4, but he's got a built in, one mana Naturalize, which will also bring him back up to a 4/4. Awesome.
There are a lot of 5 drops here as well.
Everbark Shaman
lets you turn your dead trees into forests. You probably won't need them, so turning them into two mana is pure card value.
Fendeep Summoner
is a tricky card. You can either turn your swamps into 2/5 creature to block or attack with, or you can turn an opponent's swamps into creatures, making them vulnerable to board wipes and kill spells alike.
Seedguide Ash
is some nice ramp on a body. When it dies, you can get a boatload of forests, and then exile it with
Everbark Shaman
for 5 mana in one turn! If anything, it's a 4/4 that people want to live.
Timber Protector
is an all-star of this deck. He's not only a lord, but he gives all of your forests and treefolk indestructible. This can save your board from wipes, kill spells, and land destruction.
Weatherseed Treefolk
is certainly a hard one to kill. When it dies, it comes back to your hand, which makes it an excellent creature to include. Can't forget
Sapling of Colfenor
either. Not only is she indestructible (which is rare for a commander), but her ability allows for some solid life gain and card draw every time she attacks, which can keep your hand stocked.
6 drops are abound in this deck, but all of them have their place. Great Oak Guardian gives a global boost with flash, which can save you from some pretty terrible attacks, or allow you to quickly sweep your opponents.
Orchard Warden
lets us gain insane amounts of life when we play a Treefolk. Sometimes your life total can exceed 100 if you play it right.
Kalonian Twingrove
is two
Dungrove Elder
clones minus the hexproof, which is amazing for
Orchard Warden
triggers, Dauntless Dourbark boosts, and just an extra body on the field.
Nemata, Grove Guardian
is a steady source of chump blockers, or even extra attackers.
Thorntooth Witch
is a continuous source of removal or beefiness. Kill your opponents creatures quickly (or your own for
Everbark Shaman
), or buff your attackers.
Verdeloth the Ancient
is a solid 4/7, with the ability to kick for chump blockers. on top of that, he's a saproling and treefolk lord. nifty. Finally, this deck has one eight drop.
Woodfall Primus
is a fantastic source of removal. Blow up lands, artifacts, enchantments, or even planeswalkers TWICE, then champion it with
Unstoppable Ash
to do it again later.
