First: It isn't legal in modern, but as for legacy, I think it's too slow... Most goblin decks average a turn 4 kill, with a turn 3 kill possible for most of them.. Reckless One costs four mana, and although he has haste, he isn't a great finisher in a goblin deck. Plus, goblins relies on cheap and efficient creatures to get around removal. Reckless One is very easy to get rid of, making him a iffy investment of four mana. Thanks for the comment, though!

Yeah, I knew that it was no longer considered a part of modern, but I was looking at rebuilding a deck that I was running when Onslaught was still one of the newest sets but with some of the new and improved Goblins from the newer blocks. Thanks for the feed back on it. That was always one of the issues I ran into with Reckless One, that and the pain of "deals x damage to all creatures" types of cards.

Cool, well done primer, although I do have questions. First, is Legion Loyalist really worth it? I just feel like giving first strike and trample to a bunch of 1/1's is just not all that good. Although the extra 1-drop is all well and good, I just don't think he has enough of a board impact. Also, do you think AEther Vial is good enough? It's a staple in legacy goblins and it allows you to dump your hand very quickly. Lastly, do you think card draw is at all important is goblins? Stuff like Tormenting Voice, or Reforge the Soul. It seems like you always just dump your hand real fast and then cannot really do anything. My goblin deck is How to deal 259 damage on Turn 4 (Updated). I thank you for the sideboard guide, it helped me out a bunch. Overall though, I really feel like goblins might just be a turn too slow for modern, but I love 'em, and would love to see it work. +1 for a very well done primer.

my goblin deck also runs Hordeling Outburst. I feel like that card should be mentioned here. Then again, my deck is pretty weird... it also runs Butcher of the Horde

Nice Primer +10... Wait... Uhm Shit!just can gibe +1? Damn-see it as a +10 I had a casual Gobo-deck which was t that good but with that one card it was insanely good: Skullclamp I know its banned in EVERY FORMAT but it was just so dumb to play xD! Mine was bit slow i ran Krenko and the guy(dontknow hisname) who goves all my gobos +2+0 by tapping- had like 20 5/1 gobos(had most of the time 2pumpers out)I mean my deck would suck against those because it was damn slow...But funny

sheamagic sorry, it's been a while since I checked the comments on this deck... As for Legion Loyalist, I find that the first strike and trample are incredibly good, as well as the anti tokens. The prevalence of Lingering Souls and Timely Reinforcements make the loyalist incredibly good. The first strike part is good because most of my goblins trade evenly with the opponent's 1/1s, and that means that my goblins, which are how I win, are trading with my opponent's worst cards. Loyalist fixes that. Tormenting Voice seems good, but it seems a bit slow. If you were going the slower route, I think it would just be worth it to splash black or blue. (I did play Treasure Cruise goblins when it was legal XD). AEther Vial follows that same path. Most of my guys cost one mana, so playing an artifact that is relatively easy to remove on turn one instead of a Goblin Guide or something really slows down the deck. Legacy can use it to their advantage more because of their more consistent curve.

ODDIOBLENDER Massive Raid looks interesting... as for the wardriver, I felt like the times that I needed him were much smaller than the times he was a win-more. I still haven't tried him very much, and I would like to in the next few months...

kingofcramers The reason I didn't mention him is because he seems slow. Like really slow. You can't really curve from Hordeling Outburst into Goblin Chieftain. It just is slower and generally less damage than going from Dragon Fodder into Goblin Chieftain. With your list it seems much better, because you can curve into a Butcher of the Horde from it, but in an average goblin list, which generally curves out at 3, it's slow... Sorry :)

Nixin72 says... #12

No, ceratainly won't break it, but he'll be good for sure. Hopefully make it a more viable deck.

Great primer! You covered everything new modern players just getting into goblins need to know. In my opinion, though, Krenko's Command and Goblin Fodder aren't really worth it, and I don't really like playing with the planeswalker Koth of the Hammer over other goblins. Also, I have found great success with Cascade Bluffs in my land base. Anyway, this is a great primer. +1 from me.

July 4, 2015 3:43 p.m.

rorofat says... #17

I agree that Krenko's Command isn't particularly worth it, but some players really enjoy it, so it deserved a mention... Koth of the Hammer is once again preference... I really enjoy playing him, but most other players I've found don't like him...

Cascade Bluffs is an interesting land... I'll throw it in. The only problem with it is say you have a god hand, but with only one land. And that land is a bluffs... You're kind of screwed...

theConspiracy says... #18

I have experimented some more and have taken Cascade Bluffs out of my land base. I used to use it for Warren Instigator, but now I kind of agree with you. It does sort of suck as an opener, even if you don't have a god hand.

So, does Piledriver fit anywhere and how would you implemente him?

July 13, 2015 8:45 a.m.

rorofat says... #21

I'm still testing him... I'm planning on doing 6 rounds of testing tonight, but so far here's what I've observed:

Piledriver is good, but you rarely want more than 1 in your opening hand. He's actually sort of slow! Ideally, you curve a hasty 1 drop into him, then swing on turn 3. He's really weak on turn 2 because he does nothing on turn 2 except for apply pressure. Unlike the hasty goblins, he takes 2 turns to deal damage. I'd put 1-3 in the main, because he's great when you hit him AFTER a chieftain, but not great on turn 2. In any primarily blue matchup, bring in the extra 1-3 copies in the side!

He's very good, but he slows down the deck.

I don't really know anything about goblins, but why no AEther Vial or Goblin Rabblemaster?

July 13, 2015 9:10 p.m.

Fizzery says... #23

Rabblemaster is not as good as he is in standard. Hes too slow and doesnt do anything the turn he comes out unless chieftain is out. Aether Vial is pointless because nearly all our creatures come out with haste already

July 13, 2015 11:02 p.m.

theConspiracy says... #24

The only reason I run Goblin Rabblemaster in my deck is for backup in case I don't get Goblin Piledriver or something. (Yay, Magic Origins, ya!).

Opinions on Impact Tremors? I want to like it, but it could just be a win-more kind of thing.
