And the mill win condition is gone.

I love your deck by the way. Mine is a little different from yours.

You can still mill! you just have to make it clear you can mill an infinite number of times. Then you ask your opponent if they want to take a couple of shortcuts.

If they have cards in their library that shuffle their graveyards into their library, you can mill them forever, and will eventually see them all, so you can ask to shortcut until you have knowledge of them all.

Next, because you can go forever, eventually you will mill them until they have x cards in their library, where x is the number of cards determined above. Again, ask to shortcut until only those cards are left.

Finally, win either with Wheel of Fortune or just wait a few turns for them to draw out.

So if you pull off infinite mill, ask them how many cards they have that can shuffle their graveyards into their library. Lets say they have three.

Next, tell them you are going to mill them until they have exactly three cards left in their library, because it will always be those three cards.

As an alternative, you can use Leyline of the Void, Planar Void, or a card like Tormod's Crypt to counter those shuffle effects.

Doesn't work like that in competitive games.

+1, this is a really cool deck. a friend of mine uses Master of Cruelties in his build, just a suggestion.

He's in the "Cards I Will Not Use" section of my description ArchOfHope. Master of Cruelties doesn't actually win me the game.

This is bloody brilliant! If I had such cash as two grand, I'd simply be compelled to build this - +1 for sure!

As for suggestions: Your main combo involves infinite ETB effects, so might you consider something like Altar of the Brood? Also - and I apologise if I simply did not see it up there - Blood Artist seems great, since you also incur infinite death triggers. These are merely ideas supplemental to the Dimir House Guard plan, since that does not outright do much.

And a question, if I may - why won't you use Sun Titan? It seems really good, though costly, and generally beneficial.

Anyway, good show! This looks like good fun to play!

Mill win conditions aren't viable in competitive games thuzra. Look to the comments in the last update for more details. Blood Artist is completely inferior to Gray Merchant of Asphodel because it requires a target. Sun Titan was discussed lengthy in the comments in the last update as well, basically, it doesn't do anything as it doesn't reanimate my win condition.

Gotcha. I missed the Merchant. And why is it that Mill isn't viable in competitive EDH? Perhaps it from lack of experience, but it seems sound to me?

Almost every deck runs at least one Eldrazi (which reminds me, I should put one in here). And you can't try to mill them continuously until the Eldrazi is in the last few cards of their deck because they can DQ you for taking too long.

I had not considered that - fair enough. I believe that covers all my questions... Thanks for your time.

I think it depends on the playgroup - I use Altar of Dementia and usually if people have eldrazi, I just do the maths on how many cards are in their library after the last mill, X random cards and the eldrazi are chosen, shuffled and the game goes from there. And thats in a competitive meta. I thought you only had to demonstrate the combo, not step it through.

@enpc You can't offer a shortcut to a defined board state if that state might never exist. It is theoretically possible that the Eldrazi are never the last cards in their libraries, so you can't shortcut to it. I explained that in a post previously, there is a rule that says you have to play out conditional loops.

lemmingllama: yeah, I looked into that. You're right about that one. Stupid four horsemen ruling :P

Minelia5 says... #16

I don't know if this is allowed, but shouldn't mill be viable since you can just mill them down to 1 card? All you do is keep milling them until their eldrazi is on the bottom(from shuffling over and over and over), and then you mill them till they have 1 card left in their deck? I understand not running it, but I don't agree that it isn't competitive. Also, this is a great deck! +1!

March 18, 2015 9:51 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #17

You aren't allowed to do that Minelia5. You'll get DQ'd for taking too long.

March 18, 2015 5:38 p.m.

Minelia5 says... #18

Ahh, I figured there was a rule against that. You'd think that since it would come to that at some point, no matter what, that they'd just put their deck in their graveyard. Oh well.

Illegal deck for commander great set up for sure but can only use colors for your commander so being red u can only use red spells still I believe it doesn't include her ability colors

March 20, 2015 1:06 p.m.

lemmingllama says... #23

@blowinloud121 Ability colors are included in a commander's color identity. This is why Memnarch is considered a blue general. Check here under Deck Construction for more details.

blowinloud121, Alesha is a mardu commander, not a mono-red commander. Mana symbols that appear in the text box (exceptions to the reminder text) apply as well.
