The Unstoppable Tide of Infect

Commander / EDH Counters Four Color GWUB Infect

Splitcell

Welcome to my first infect deck. I saw Atraxa and I finally got around to building this deck with one of my favorite game mechanics. Infect And proliferation are the main mechanics that the deck uses with a +1/+1 sub theme to pump your infect creatures up. This is by no means a deck that isn’t going to change so any suggestions are greatly appreciated and whether I use them or not I just appreciate you taking the time to look at my take on atraxa infect.

You are usually looking for 3-4 lands in hand that will tap for 3-4 different colors of mana, a low cmc source of infect like Blighted Agent , Glistener Elf , Plague Stinger , etc. and some utility/ card draw/ tutors/ramp (if you are missing colors to play Atraxa).
This is an aggro based infect deck designed to get in early with infect and use the proliferation engine to speed up the process of the kill. Whether you play this single player or in a multiplayer pod, it plays the same. Find the poor soul that is open when you get infect on the field, latch onto them like a deer tick, finish them off with poison and move on to the next person. When piloting this deck in multiplayer, if possible, live by the saying “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. Assuming You have another powerful deck in your meta and they have an open board, target them first. People may see a benefit to not hating you off the board and takes out a potential problem later in the game. Player removal is key for multiplayer infect decks.

Play this deck if:

-You like infect (most important)

-You want a straight forward deck that gets around life gain

-You like having a commander that has a built in engine that supports the mechanics of the deck but isn’t needed to win.

-You like counters

-You like a fast deck that can pretty consistently win turn 4-5 if you mulligan right.

You shouldn’t play this deck if:

-You want a deck with alternate win cons

-You want a deck that makes infinite mana and combos off

-You want complex interactions between cards

-You want to fly under the radar. (A lot of people hate infect and will try to hate you off the board.)

Solemnity this is a remove on site card. It completely shuts down this deck.

Heavy Control/ Removal

This being an aggro based deck that aims to get infect out early, heavy tempo control and removal can be a really big head ache. In situations like this, I mulligan for straight race mode. Be as fast as possible to hopefully finish them off before their control engine gets going.

Token Decks

There are ways of getting around tokens but if you don’t get those cards it can be a big problem. Usually in these situations I try to get some unblockable in my mulligan to deal with a really wide board state.

Hatred :

“Sure I will let one infect through”, response to no blocks make that Plague Stinger a 10/10 for the one shot. One of the reasons I made this deck in the first place.

Thassa, God of the Sea :

Nothing better than making your infect creatures unblockable then proliferating those up for the win. Pair this with Hatred and you are lethal.

Venser, the Sojourner :

Again with the unblockable. It’s VERY important once opponents start building board states. Also with the proliferation of the deck, getting to that emblem is a lot easier to do and is a very good emblem.

Low cmc infect creatures

This is the most important part of the deck. Get your low cost infect creatures out and get your poison counters proliferating once you get that engine going. Glistener Elf , Blighted Agent , Blight Mamba are some examples but there are a lot of them in here to help get in early.

Contagion Engine :

Double proliferate is another very powerful effect. If you get some +1/+1’s on your army of infection you kill in two combats and one after the first kill. Plague Stinger / Blighted Agent get a +1/+1, you swing for 2 poison counters, activate Contagion Engine , Proliferate all the counters (4 poison counters, 3 +1/+1), Atraxa triggers and proliferate again (5 poison counters, 4 +1/+1’s). Next combat swing with a 5/5 for the kill, get your three proliferate triggers to make it an 8/8 and now you just need to connect once and double proliferate. It’s gets out of control fast.

Master Biomancer :

Creatures entering with +1/+1s that can all be proliferated is a must add for speeding up the deck

Forgotten Ancient :

more on the +1/+1 sub theme but being able to boost a creature to kill range in single turn is really strong.

Inkmoth Nexus :

Probably one of the best lands in this deck. Taps for mana as well as becoming a flying 1/1 infect creature makes this a must add for the deck, it’s fast and hard to deal with.

As I mentioned in the beginning, the real way this deck wins isn’t tricky. Make your stuff unblockable, pump up your creatures with +1/+1’s and use the built in proliferation engine Atraxa, Praetors' Voice offers. Hatred , Master Biomancer and your things that make everything unblockable all offer you opportunities to get in for the kill as well as get around life gain decks!

Suggestions

Updates Add

Removed Path to Exile, Eternal Witness and Putrefy to add Abzan Charm and Phyrexian Arena abzan charm is a bit harder to cast but has much more utility and doesn’t let the person search for a basic land which is big in edh. Phyrexian arena is because i needed more card draw. Cyclonic I don’t know why I didn’t have it in here in the first place.
