A rehash of the very first deck I ever had (this was orginally a starter deck I bought back in the Shadowmoor days). I thought that since now they came up with the Hexproof mechanic (which is the perfect mechanic for a deck like this instead of Shroud), I'd pull out my old deck and renovate it.
This deck works on probably the most simple dynamic I've ever had - simple, yes, but by my experience it has been very very effective - just attach some auras to a creature with hexproof and let the damage-dealing begin. The most effective card I have here is the Steel of the Godhead, and it is in fact the only card I retained from the original deck I had, because it has the power to completely turn the tides late in games, or to get you so far ahead of your opponents that they would eventually just concede. Now that they have creature cards such as Geist of Saint Traft with hexproof and some goodies on the side, Steel of the Godhead just became even more crippling to opponents. To be perfectly honest, all this deck really needs is one hexproof creature. Attach auras to that creature, and you're good to go.
PREFERRED OPENING HAND: A perfect opening hand is what my friends have called "The Holy Hand", where you have 3 mana (at least one of the special lands such as Glacial Fortress or Sejiri Refuge), 1 Steel of the Godhead, a Geist of Saint Traft, one more good offensive aura (such as Ethereal Armor), and a removal or counter card (such as Counterspell, Mana Leak, Journey to Nowhere, or
Prison Term
).
STRATEGY (turn-by-turn reference): For the first two turns, the ideal move is to observe the opponents' moves. If he or she puts down a potentially good card, counter it right away. By the time the third turn comes along, put down Geist of Saint Traft, and by the fourth turn, you should already have at least two auras attached to that creature. Then, well, you're good to go. If they come up with boardwipers, then by my experience it is still quite easy to re-do your board, as you have ample time thanks to the life gaining of both Steel of the Godhead and Daybreak Coronet.
Ponder helps you keep up the pace, and it can potentially find you the cards you need to find at the right time.
