8-o You have your own R&D team!?

That seems nice. Let me know what the concensus is. I would appreciate the feedback you garner.

Thanks.

Hero of Bladehold could be good in this deck. attack for 7 over three creatures and have blockers in the future.

I have thought about that certainly. I have three...but they are possibly on the trade block. It seems badass on the mimic vat, though. Crazy card combo.

What creature would you take out in their place?

So I was playing against deck:exiled-control-please-comment last night and he had a sangromancer on his mimic vat, I was playing my mindslaver deck Still My Turn (Updated). I played out my Glimmerpoint Stag which of course has great synergy with Venser, but potentially more with mimic vat against a mimic vat. So if you put out a glimmerpoint stag, you can exile their mimic vat every time it has something attached to it and then it comes back in with nothing attached to it and whatever was is now exiled entirely. I'd say its obviously only for sideboard against another mimic vat, but will certainly toy with your opponent.

Ah. Very interesting idea. I'm going to add it to the maybeboard with the Razor Hippogriff ...i'm thinking that the maybeboard I will keep around because once some of the cards in my deck move out of standard I will have replacements waiting in the wings such as the hippogriff and the glimmerpoint stag.

Thanks for the suggestion. I like the way it works against the opponent's vat! Very clever.

props to WalmartChamp2 for suggesting many of these ideas almost 2 months ago and now I finally get around to listening.

! apparently it takes many kicks in the head to get a mule started walking.

I'd definately try and make room for hero of bladehold here. maybe at the exprense of vampire nighthawk and/or a journey to nowhere?

So 2 Hero of Bladeholds? Or just 1? If I run two it fills up my 4 spot heavier than my 3 spot...which is not terrible, but it is something to think about.

If I run 1 it would even the 3 and 4 spot out, but I wouldn't see it consistantly...it would be a surprise bonus once in a while.

I could surely lose a journey to nowhere. That seems doable.

Maybe I will start with the -1 vampire nighthawk, and +1 Hero of Bladehold for now... and work from there.

I will do an update after I playtest it live on Monday.

Thanks for the feedback.

no porblem. I'd try and put 2 in to increase the chances of seeing her, as she's a really good card.

March 7, 2011 3:25 a.m.

I did some testing and as awesome as the Bladeholds are...I am going to leave them in the maybeboard right now because the only creature that I would take out that doesn't help my control scheme is the baneslayers. I could swap them out, but the baneslayers are fun to play in this deck, and they fly.

Still...baneslayers may not be around forever. hah.

Check out my decks. I'm currently working on a deck very similar. We should compare. I like the massacare wurm, how well does it work?

looks good only thing i would suggest is changing out some Journey to Nowhere for some Go for the Throat or Doom Blade black's removal is one of the reasons to run black. +1

March 15, 2011 5:27 a.m.

You know...you are right. And I would swap those out in a heartbeat before I took this to a FNM event, but as it stands the Journeys give me more flexibility against my casual group.

They also target anything, where the other limits...slightly.

I could certainly move one from MB to SB and the other from SB to MB.

I agree though, certainly. I am primarily a black player so I can appreciate the sentiment.

Thank ye kindly sir six!

I know I'm pushing the limit of my advice allowance and bordering on heresy when talking to you on this topic but Is 4x Mimic Vat really necessary? If you drop 1x you could throw in another Inquisition of Kozilek for that turn 1 play.

March 15, 2011 4:48 p.m.

I could certainly.

I just really love that card and I want it out on the table as much as possible.

There is no known limit to the amount of opinions or advice that can be given to my knowledge.

i agree with Balthasar turn one IoK is a great opening and you only really need one vat up and running.

March 15, 2011 7:59 p.m.

six ... I am beginning to suspect you are some sort of mimic vat hater.

Haha.

I can't help it. I want mimic vats in all my decks.

Besides Glimpse the Unthinkable which is not standard. It isy favorite card.

I totally agree that IoK is great! I just like mimic vat more.

You CAN part with one,it won't kill you, I promise.

March 15, 2011 9:21 p.m.

popeyroach says... #19

I'm inclined to disagree. the deck is based around the mimic vat so you really need to see it, and with all the artifact removal around at the moment you always want a backup.

March 16, 2011 5:26 a.m.

Yes! Thank you! Some mimic vat love.

There is a lot of removal now, and mimic vat is a prime target for sure.

lol not a hater at all just my deck cant abuse ETB effects like this. i like it here i just think a set is a little much and i do love me some discard.

March 17, 2011 7:38 a.m.

@six

yeah. I do agree that the vat is supremely awesome when it triggers ETB effects, but don't underestimate its ability to recur large beasties for cheap over and over, even if they don't have ETB.

I know that I have taken an enemy creature onto the vat in a game despite having a better ETB option, simply because I could swing bigger with it.

I run them in my deck:parody-of-parity-besieged-parody-edition strictly to help me keep board presence and prevent permanent removal. That along with Corpse Cur I can keep a steady stream of creatures lining my hand.

Ok, wait a second, could you put the revoker on the vat, and then play him in response to activated abilities? He would go off first on the stack, but since the other ability already triggered would it ignore him?

March 19, 2011 8:52 p.m.

You could certainly put the revoker on to the vat, but remember that he just causes activated abilities of a card to not be able to trigger when he enters the battlefield. If the ability is always activated it is too late, as it is not a counterspell ability.

My main thought was that I could trigger a vat during a player's upkeep naming whatever planeswalker they have in play rendering it useless during their mainphases and keep that up ad nauseum or until I draw a hexmage.

It is a nice control card to side in against decks with limited permanents.

Journey to Nowhere is really missplaced in this deck. Try some basic black creature destroyer to play with the Mimic Vat s, like Go for the Throat , or Grasp of Darkness .

I think Wurmcoil Engine would work even better than Grave Titan or Sun Titan . Did you think about that?

Overall, great deck. +1 from me.
