for more protection, you could use Lightmine Field and Leyline of Sanctity

May 7, 2015 1:17 a.m.

Both have been considered. Lightmine Field is just less effective than Sphere of Safety in this deck, and while Leyline of Sanctity is also fun, it's only really good against a couple decks.

What about Ankh of Mishra? Or is that not legal in Vintage?

May 11, 2015 8:56 p.m.

Never really thought about it. This deck is actually based off me seeing Zo-Zu the Punisher, so it would definitely fit flavor-wise... I'm just a bit worried about it not being effective enough. I mean, at the most, I deal them 2 damage a turn, which is a bit lackluster here. Also, if I get the Citadel of Pain + Manabarbs combo going, my opponent likely won't want to be playing lands anyways.

May 11, 2015 9:04 p.m.

True, but you can drop the Ankh before either Barbs or Citadel, so just in case your opponents decide "oh two damage is worth it so I can get far enough ahead so it doesn't matter" you can drop Citadel/Barbs and make them pay.

Just a suggestion. :P

Under consideration... The two-drop spot IS weak... hm...

May 11, 2015 9:10 p.m.

Alright, I'm starting to take suggestions for the two-drop spot guys. Anvil of Bogardan has really been playing bad in recent testing, so I'm going to take it out all-together and knock something else for two. Ankh of Mishra is definitely an option, are there any others that you guys have?

Update incoming: should I put Ankh of Mishra or Mana Web in?

Ankh of Mishra. Mana Web never really hates on anything.

May 18, 2015 7:49 a.m.

Well that was quick :) Nef thought the same too, so I think that's what's going in.

Karma should be in the side... What about Ghostly Prison?

Yo, Gideon17! The reason Karma isn't in the side is because of its combo with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. As for Ghostly Prison, while it is a great card, the Overpriced Store's main goal is to make everyone pay ridiculous taxes in the late game. Sphere of Safety covers this role much better. I could, however, see GP as SB tech against some RDW shenanigans that just ruins the plan. Thanks for the feedback!
