I think Horobi really deserves to be built around, not that you can't have wincons or a few combos though. Just seeing that all your combos were built around Mikaeus, it would seem you are meant to play a Mikaeus commander deck, no offense, but you are not ready for the glory that is Horobi.

I would have to disagree. Making your entire deck about having Horobi on the field, is a trap. The spirit formerly known as 'Reito' catches an extreme amount of hate. Unless you are Dueling, you will be hard pressed to keep Horobi around.

kameenook, for more insight as to why I don't build around Horobi more: See that first update? Click the comment button and read Virlym's first comment.
The deck used to be based around Horobi but it never won, Horobi is just too hard to keep around, especially in my meta where I face Marath, Will of the Wild on a daily basis.

add dross scorpion, that with cauldron and triskelion is infinite damage, as well as mephidross vampire with triskelion

marioman77 Any equipment automatically kill. Equipping targets, so there's no way to attack to Horobi.

majorappliance both suggestions aren't too good without Triskelion.

Horobi, Death's Wail and Cauldron of Souls is more like: "Put a -1/-1 counter on any number of target creatures.", which is fine, but not quite as insane as repeatable one sided boardwipe for no mana.
February 14, 2015 4:18 p.m.
Actually, Deadan, Cauldron of Souls targets so, if Horobi, Death's Wail is out, they all die before they get persist. The act of targeting kills.

so cauldren of souls doesn't give creature persist in the process ?

@marioman77 The Cauldron of Souls trigger goes on the stack. You select it's targets when it goes on the stack. Creatures being targeted triggers Horobi, Death's Wail's ability for each creature. Those creatures die before the Cauldron of Souls ability ever resolves, and thus will not have persist.

I like Nim Deathmantle in my horobi deck, because luckily it doesn't target when it equips itself on a dying creature.I also love to watch people groan when i play Endless Whispers + Leyline of the Void my general bounces around but all there creatures are exiled when they die.
Also i noticed a hero's downfall, which i suppose kills planeswalkers but there are quite a few exile effects that i might like better since if horobi cant kill it its probably indestructible.
February 20, 2015 5:58 a.m.
Fictions_Reality I never liked deathmantle. It's ability is expensive and predictable.
That combo sounds bad. I don't get any of my opponents creatures, but they get mine? No thank you.

you'd be surprised, granted i also run Phage the Untouchable with the endless whispers so i can kill someone end of turn if she dies. [then she is exiled from the game so you don't have to worry about them sending it back your way end of turn] but like i said it doesnt matter who has your general so long as he is on the battlefield your deck is built to use him better than everyone else's deck. And yeah deathmantle is predictable but better than having your general cost 40bb because one player has a staff of nin out.
February 20, 2015 1:51 p.m.
If conditions are unfavorable for Horobi, I wouldn't cast him. Once Staff of Nin hit, I'll stop casting him. The point of this deck is to be able to win without him, but that doesn't mean I want my opponents to have him.

I'd start by swapping Crypt of Agadeem for Thespian's Stage. Crypt of Agadeem will at most, give you 12 mana if every single black creature you have is in your graveyard. However, Thespian's Stage can become another Cabal Coffers to give you more mana, or another land of your choosing for other effects. More Utility and usefulness overall.
I also don't really like Sever the Bloodline and Toxic Deluge. Sever the Bloodline as the same drawbacks as Gild, 4 drop Sorcery that exiles 1 creature (fairly good chance it won't be more), and Toxic Deluge can cost a fair bit of life. I'd probably run Oblivion Stone over Sever the Bloodline, and Black Sun's Zenith over Toxic Deluge.
