@ lemmingllama this may seem like madness but I'd like to refrain from using Delver of Secrets Flip here. Consider it an arbitrary restriction for the sake of amusement if you will. I'd like to get my hands on Geist of Saint Traft though.

I assumed that you wouldn't be using it since it wasn't already here. Delver of Secrets Flip is good, but it's also very boring to use.
As for Geist of Saint Traft, he is pretty great against certain decks, but I personally don't like him in tempo builds since it leaves you tapped out on turn 3. I recommended Clique since it can be cast at instant speed, letting you hold up the mana for counters or charms as needed.

Chained to the Rocks comes to mind, as does a sideboard in general. Negate can work in place of Remand but there are plenty of counters in here already. I think you're set up well enough against other midrange and even U/B control, but what about a hex proof finisher?
Love the use of charms - My only real criticism is that it looks like a control deck, so will the burn be used as creature control? Either way, running 21 lands seems risky, even with that mana curve. Maybe for a weenie deck, but you won't be tapping out every turn, more like draw-go, right? In that case, will 21 be enough? How has your play testing felt so far?

Have you thought about something like Blade Splicer+Restoration Angel? Resto also works nicely with Snappy and Wall of Omens if you wanted to throw that in.

@ PinkyWinkyBlinky play testing thus far has seen mixed results. I haven't begun building a sideboard because I'm still testing the deck as a whole. I like building a deck, getting comfortable with it and then building a sideboard so that I can make precise adjustments, I know it's a little strange.
It really isn't a control deck, it doesn't play like one once you start. 21 lands have been more than adequate thus far. I'm wanting to test Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest and Soulfire Grand Master but I have no idea if that would be remotely viable. I do like Shu Yun as a finisher though.
I'm also considering add protection spells like Gods Willing and maybe throwing in 2x Monastery Mentor any thoughts on that?

@ kmcree that would shift into a control build and at that point I may as well just abandon the tempo idea.
February 27, 2015 11:06 p.m.
I mean, you're running 27 instants, pretty much all of which are counters or removal. Aren't you already basically a control build? I'm suggesting you pull some of those, and replace them with mid-costed, efficient creatures to be more midrange/tempo.

kmcree Yeah, fair point. I've been wanting to try to use Monastery Mentor, Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest or Soulfire Grand Master in modern. Any thoughts on any of those?
February 27, 2015 11:27 p.m.
Well, personally I like Monastery Mentor the best out of those. But he fits in a deck like this that has lots of instants/sorceries to trigger him, not a more midrange/tempo deck with creatures.
Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest is honestly pretty underwhelming. It doesn't have any evasion, and it doesn't create other threats like Mentor does.
I think Soulfire Grand Master has potential, but probably fits more in a burn style deck to take advantage of the lifelink ability. The second ability is a little too overcosted to be that useful.

kmcree if I were to put in 2 Monastery Mentor what suggestions would you make to change the deck? I think either Gods Willing or Apostle's Blessing might be needed to protect it.
February 27, 2015 11:42 p.m.
I think I would swap Lightning Angel for the 2 Mentors. I'm not really sure Gods Willing or Apostle's Blessing are that useful. You'd be better with cards that will help you both when you have Mentor out, and also when you don't. Maybe something like Negate? It could counter any removal that targets Mentor, and also help you deal with other problem cards.

Geist of Saint Traft and Restoration Angel. Also Lightning Helix.

I'm itnerested with Reality Shift in modern because I'm not sure whether it's good or bad. In this build it's questionable because a lot of yoru creatures will actually die to the 2/2 thats left behind.

ChiefBell, so far I really like Reality Shift. I think it's incredibly underrated. Especially if you consider facing an Abzan deck. They play Goyf or Taz you smack them with a reality shift, bam 2/2. Unlike Path to Exile they don't ramp into a T3 Siege Rhino.
I'm really struggling with this deck though. I know what I want to do, but I just can't seem to figure out how to do it. Like I said in the description, I really don't want to turn this into a competitive deck. Also, what are your thoughts on Monastery Mentor or Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest?

Lightning Angel is a step in the wrong direction. She causes you to entirely tap out to deal 3 damage, then eats some removal. You want either Restoration Angel or Monastery Mentor in that spot, Restoration Angel to save your creatures and flash in at end of turn, and Monastery Mentor to be a win-con by himself, but also one that creates tokens even if he dies.
Personally, I would cut the Lightning Angels for Restoration Angels, and then cut a single Young Pyromancer for a Monastery Mentor. Test them out and see if they work. Alternatively, you could try a 1/1 split on the two angels, see which one performs better.

Cool deck! Looks like it would be effective.
I'm not a huge fan of Remand though, I would consider swapping a different counter in it's place(Spell Pierce or Mana Leak maybe?) or perhaps a bounce card.
I see the appeal of Remand I just feel like there's better cards you could run in it's place as tempo advantage. Maybe I'm wrong though :)

Thank you CANADIANSHINOBI for reminding me to heck out the deck before mine, I kinda forgot about the rules; My bad. Anyway, I checked out the deck and it looks pretty fun to play, however I have only played EDH and a tiny but of standard, so I don't think I can help too much. Suggestion-wise though, what do you think about Timely Reinforcements just in case you're not doing so well?

Boros Charm doesn't seem like the best fit here since it can't remove creatures.
What about Lightning Helix? It kills stuff and gains you life. Seems like a good move.

Monastery Siege doesn't seem to do enough for your deck, you normally want games to go quickly and it seems a little too slow. In it's place, we might want to add some protection against combo decks. I personally like Spell Pierce to stop their shenanigans, but another card that is versatile is Gigadrowse, you can tap down their blockers and also use spare mana to tap down their lands on their upkeep.
I'd also consider swapping a copy of Azorius Charm for Izzet Charm, it's pretty handy and gives you more options.
Finally, Delver of Secrets Flip and Vendilion Clique would both be good cards in here. Delver is a threat that demands an answer, and can win games by itself. Similarly, Vendilion Clique also does this, but it protects from combos and otherwise ruins hands. Clique might be better in the sideboard though.
