The land base looks fine, your CMC is under 3 so you shouldn't have trouble getting most of what you need out. I would, however, replace one of the swamps with another island.

I took out a Sands of Delirium for the Island

I dont really want to take Swamp s out of the deck

Crypt Ghast and maybe Realmwright ?

DePeluche says... #5

@hawgdriver

At first I tought about the Crypt Ghast +Realmwright combo to cast the mill spells faster

But then I realized by the turn 4, an Aggro deck has already killed you AND your creatures probably destroyed, and a control deck already wiped the combo away

Also I would like to keep my deck creatureless so Mutilate doesnt wipe me away too

Thanks for the comment

i think you could probably stand to lose at least one Increasing Confusion and maybe a Mind Grind . for the most part you're going to have to be leaving mana up to counter things, or using it to cast removal in order to get out, and protect Jace. those two spells strike me more as spells to finish off an opponent. i might even take out two of each and put in 4 Mind Sculpt in their place. you can still finish off an opponent with either of those spells once you get to that point. but that way you're not stuck with a bunch of spells in your hand that you can't cast for fear of being caught with no mana up. just a thought. looks like a fun deck either way. cool mill always gets a +1 from me.

@caseyI dont want to run Mind Sculpt for a reason

By the time and the number of turns that have passed from controlling, Increasing Confusion and Mind Grind are far better after they depleted their counters on the Walkers and trying to stop Mutilate and other removals I cast on them

First, things I would change/think about:

  1. Beware - Redirect does not work on Slaughter Games : "target OPPONENT." I am generally disappointed with Redirect in this metagame as well. It's decent against other control decks, but people don't really run too many things that you reliably want to retarget, at least not such that it's worth spending a card on. It's on its way out of my own standard deck.
  2. Not a huge fan of Witchbane Orb . By the time you actually bring it out, the damage tends to have been done against any deck that has burn spells and such to throw at you, or at the very least they'll cast it in response. As far as curses, some RDW runs Curse of the Pierced Heart , of course, but other than that you've got card:Curse of Death's Hold, which you don't care about, and that's it.
  3. You only have 15x Swamp in here, so I'm not terribly sure about Mutilate . I know you have Liliana of the Dark Realms too, but still it's a bit suspect to me. I've had great suceess with Barter in Blood and card:Curse of Death's Hold. I am also unsure about Liliana of the Dark Realms herself; she may indeed work really well, but I'd playtest it first. If I had tried to build a similar deck, I would have ignored Liliana and just gone for more mill and more control tools in her place. But she might add a lot to the deck; you'll have to play it to be sure. The her + Mutilate "swamps matter" stuff is the stuff that I'm a bit skeptical of, basically. If you do decide to eliminate that stuff, you have plenty of good replacements. Thought Scour , for instance, is a great card for you. If you eliminate Liliana, I think you should also add in some lands. 23 (with no mana artifacts!) is a very thin number for a deck with so many X spells, Liliana or no.
  4. Definitely put Duress in the sideboard, or possibly something that will deal with an artifact like Elixir of Immortality . Maybe Encrust ?
  5. This may or may not be to your liking, but I've found that having a creature in the sideboard is a really good idea, especially one resistant to removal. You run a creatureless deck, your opponent assumes you have no creatures, and then bam, in later games, creatures. Lone Revenant is a stallion for me, and would be for you as well I think, but Lazav, Dimir Mastermind also bears strong consideration in this deck.

Things I like:
  1. Your suite of mill cards is very good and very powerful. Against a control deck they're less valuable, but that's why you have Nephalia Drownyard . Try not to cast Mind Grind for less than X = 4, preferably more.
  2. Control tool selection is top notch. The only suggestion I would make would be to at least consider Grisly Spectacle .
  3. I feel like Sands of Delirium is underrated. It's a good, reliable choice that can speed up your mill quite significantly and be a good backup if nothing else sticks.

I agree with the KrazyCaley, especially about #3.

DePeluche says... #13

I have to agree with Mutilate maybe I should just add Barter in Blood instead, only thing that might scare me is the Selesnya/Bant Tokens decks for creature matter

As for the Sideboard, geez I tought Redirect was good for that card but I made a huge mistake, Imma change that and Witchbane Orb for Duress and card:Curse of Death's Hold

The only thing I might think is about removing Liliana of the Dark Realms , she can fetch lands for the X Spells (plus the card you draw) and her huge Ultimate for the same reason

Also for Thought Scour its a great card indeed, but I dont know what to take out or cut a bit, any suggestions ?

Just a funny idea. Due to all of the side board things available in this format against mill... You could splash the smallest bit of white for Rest in Peace . It stops Psychic Spiral and Elixir of Immortality from slowing you down. It could also give you access to card:Sphinx's Revelation

Hows the deck working for you

DePeluche says... #18

On my current meta it works wonders

Just against Control Decks its hard to deal with on 1st game

2nd and 3rd go fine if you have a couple Duress to make em drop the counters or other shit that might annoy you, also once you have Sands of Delirium on the board its inevitable for them to keep milling insanely

its control and mill @ the same time. Codex Shredder would make wonders for your deck. U

In the sideboard I would drop 2 Duress for 2 Appetite for Brains . That card has never failed me every time I play it. What's more is since it gets exiled, they'll have no way to get the bomb they topdecked back.

acbooster what if they only have 3 mana costs?

May 4, 2013 3:18 p.m.

DePeluche says... #24

I preffer using Duress high mana cost spells can go with it, and creatures will simply go with the several removal I have

I would take out Sands of delerium since you might whant to hold mana back for some of you 20 instants.
