The concept of this standard deck is to create a lot of value accessing some of the best tribal cards right now and combine them to win the game by raw pressure. This is an aggressive deck that wants to maintain the board under control until the engines win the game. The idea came from using Shapeshifters to make Dragonkin Berserker create cheaper Dragons without having to cast one in the first place, and from that I added Magda that really sinergizes with Maskwood Nexus and some sweet combos to generate that value
As of right now, the deck is mostly red with some green shapeshifters that really are worth the additional color. Maybe you can add up other colors like blue to emphasize the shapeshifter theme, but I think it is really good as it is right now.
The metamorph creatures are there to make good early turns and start composing a good board. You can try to generate some early pressure if in your open hand you have Dragonkin Berserker + Guardian Gladewalker
or any other shapeshifter.
Valakut Awakening
is there to cycle your hand if you don't need those cards at the moment or just act as a land if you are going to miss a land drop, which is not what you want in this deck.
Shatterskull Smashing
is going to use all the mana you have produced with
Magda, Brazen Outlaw
or
Goldspan Dragon
to get rid of some annoying creatures that are threatening you.
I think
Basalt Ravager
is going to be perfect in this deck since the damage he is able to generate can be very high up and you can throw it to your opponent face if it is necessary; as well as the death trigger of
Leyline Tyrant
. Also, their stats are going to come in handy.
And now, the moment you have all been waiting for. Presenting you,
Magda, Brazen Outlaw
clap sounds. So yeah, my deck has really went off the rails when I decided to include this lady into my deck. Not only she sinergizes perfectly with
Goldspan Dragon
, not only she can single-handedly insta-cast creatures like
Basalt Ravager
or Ashaya, Soulf of the Wild. But she is so GOOD with
Maskwood Nexus
. She can tutor this artifact to put it into the battlefield and immediately extend her own range, being able to tutor ALMOST THE ENTIRE DECK. You can basically do anything from this point on, but here are some examples: You can tutor Ashaya, Sould of the Wild if you haven't put it on your board yet and make every creature tap for more Treasures; you can tutor
Basalt Ravager
to probably insta-kill some pesky creature or explode your opponent face. The only things Magda needs are some "Dwarves" that may come in the form of Shapeshifters or with
Dwarven Reinforcements
and tap them with
Raiders' Karve
or simply smashing your opponent face.
And this is not even the end. When the stars align and you have drawn/tutored all the pieces of Exodia, you can trigger
The World Tree
ability and if you have
Maskwood Nexus
in your board... Well, let's say that dreams can be really sweet. And btw, yeah Ashaya, Sould of the Wild can transform your entire board into
Birds of Paradise
. :)
My objective isn't to create a really competitive deck that can meet face-to-face with meta decks. I recently started playing Magic again after a long pause and I really want to focus on my favorite part of this game, which is creating some bonkers deck that is fun to play and showcase how creative you can be in this game. I came up with this concept after opening a Pre-Release pack and looking through some of these cards like Dragonkin Berserker or Realmwalker, and I really want to see how far this deck can go.
