Lol yeah, a whole bunch came to me at once. I think I like this one though. I updated the combo section too to make it easier to find.

This is awesome, I've been looking for a good graveyard modern deck for awhile. Thought about subsituting Kessig Cagebreakers for Vengevine? It would speed up the aggro of the deck, you could also add Gravecrawler to help Vengevine get out more consistently.

I think that'd be a perfectly viable swap. I personally really like the Cagebreakers as an additional wincon. But I think your change wouldn't hurt the deck too much - the Jarad combo, Splinterfright/Bonehoard, and Stinkweed/Bonehoard wincons are still in place. Depending on your meta, the additional speed could be a big advantage.

I know they cost an extra mana, but when it comes to destruction spells in B/G, I've always been fond of Putrefy and lately have been getting some great results with Hero's Downfall. Also maybe throw in a couple Treasured Finds in case Jarad gets put into the graveyard and you don't have the swamp to sacrifice. And speaking of swamps, since that is part of Jarad's cost for bringing him back, perhaps put in an extra swamp and get rid of one Dakmor Salvage. And replace the Woodland Cemetery with Overgrown Tomb since they count toward your forest and swamp costs. Though if you're wanting to keep this deck semi-budget, that might not be a good idea.
Anyway, just some minor chipping at the surface of an extremely solid core of a deck. +1 from me!

I really like you suggestions RaSkipper. I'm going to make the Dakmor swap and also add a note regarding Overgrown Tomb as a non budget option, because that was a spot on assessment. I really like Treasured Find too, but I don't know what I'd remove. And I'm afraid that without 3 or 4 copies, it's most likely going to get milled.

Fair point about the Treasured Find. The biggest reason by far I was suggesting it was for retrieving Jarad, but I'll bet that if you tweak the mana base slightly that you wouldn't even need it. With the Overgrown Tomb and extra basic land, you'd be jumping from three swamp cards to eight. Should take care of it.
Nitpicking aside, graveyard-based decks are some of my least favorite in the entire game, yours is the first one I've ever seen that made me think 'Oh dang, this is pretty sweet.' Awesome build!

Thanks dude, much appreciated! I've enjoyed playtesting it so far. It provides a lot of flexible tools so you can strategize rather than hope for your best cards to come up at the right time. Plus the Jarad nuke is bonkers fun.

Wow, this deck has come a pretty long way. Didn't this used to be simic? :)

Yes sir it did! Thanks to your gentle nudge and the suggestions of this excellent community, it's become something wholly more vicious.

Have you play tested this deck at tournaments or anything? I'm curious to know how it is doing. You have A LOT of dredge cards (obviously is the point) but I do wonder if you ever have to change your game plan because you're about to mill yourself to lose the game.

I haven't played any top tier decks yet. But in the testing I've done, it hasn't been an issue. You don't have to Dredge every turn. Dredge gives the deck options. If a card you need gets milled, you can get it back. If you need to get creatures in the yard, you can do a discard and Dredge combo a couple times with Lotleth Troll and Golgari Grave-Troll. But once the yard is full, the deck functions fine on regular draw and the occasional Dredge. That said, the deck is strong enough to win by turn 5 or 6 sometimes. And when that happens, there's still plenty of library left.

Dredge was always a deck I liked, but at the time I didn't think I was a strong enough player to make and utilize a deck like this to its potential. Since then I think it may be worth a try which is why I asked. Thanks for posting.

Give it a try with the site's playtest function. Play it against lots of other stuff. It's a little hard at first because it's different. At first you might feel obligated to dredge more than you need to and you'll lose. And then you'll be scared so you'll over compensate and not dredge enough and your creatures will be weak. But after a few games you'll get the rhythm and you'll understand when to turn on the dredge engine and when to draw. It's a tough balance at first. But once you get it, it's awesome. The key is discarding and dredging the right stuff at the right time.

An extra wincon could be Golgari Grave-Troll + Bioshift + Some Fatty. Bioshift kills your Troll for 1 mana g&b, so you can Dredge 6 on your next turn plus all the counters on the Troll gets moved to say your Splinterfright or Nighthowler. Think about it.

That really is a cool combo. I'm just not sure where it would fit in the deck. I've really tried to minimize the amount of cards that could end up dead mills. But I can totally see how out of hand that could get. And fast.

Have you considered Nature's Claim in place of Naturalize in the sideboard? It is the same thing for one less mana, and it gains you 4 life.
April 25, 2015 12:51 p.m.
It is cheaper. But it doesn't give me 4 life. It gives the owner of the thing destroyed 4 life. So my opponent.

ohh sorry I have been misreading that for a long time now....wow

You might consider replacing Life from the Loam with Far Wanderings if you're on a budget
April 25, 2015 4:26 p.m.
Life from the Loam is a pretty critical part of the deck. If you need to cut corners, you'll want to do it elsewhere. Being able to cast this and dredge it back out over and over. Or use dredge to get it back if it gets milled is pretty key to this deck's strategy.
