Really solid deck. Have you considered Rite of Consumption?

Nice deck :) Have you considered Bloodbond March , could be a budget friendly way to keep recurrence. Den Protector would also return the cards you need right away!

Thanks for the suggestions Happythinker and mmmdonuts. Those would all be sweet additions to the deck. Not sure how to fit them in do some playtests might be in order, but I like it!

The new name makes you seem like a child molester...

Lol... Boners, pedos - I'm sensing a theme with your perception Scorprix.

I'm not weird, I just have a different perception.

I'm SOOO going to use that later...

Also, are you sure you want to use Nightmare Void? I understand it can be recycled, but Inquisition of Kozilek/Thoughtsieze seem better.

I've considered them as they are definitely superior cards. The only problem I have is that there's a very high likelihood that they'll get milled. And if they do, they're dead cards. Where Raven's Crime and Nightmare Void, once you mill them, you essentially have unlimited copies. Bonus points if you can cast them from hand first.

Like the deck :)

Some suggestions: Pack Rat could be gr8 in this deck, it is hard to kill past the third upkeep and it puts on alot of preasure while helps discarding dredge cards. Might be something, might not :) Treetop Village is another trampe creature, also hides from removeal.

I do like the idea of Pack Rats as another discard outlet. Not sure where I'd jury rig them in though. The trample land is a sweet idea too!

Glad to see that the ideas are still flowing and that this decks is still evolving! Here's a shot in the dark for ya. Street Wraith might work wonderfully for this deck. It can give you a virtually no-cost discard at instant speed with a draw that you can switch to a dredge trigger. It sucks if it gets milled though, and it's pretty much a 1-time effect but at least it sits as a creature in your graveyard, and can be utilized as a combat trick. Lets say its pretty early and you're lucky enough to have an unblocked Splinterfright or Nighthowler out in combat. Initially they might be unblocked because your opponent thinks he can survive it, but then you cycle Street Wraith before damage and dredge up a Stinkweed Imp in place of the draw and all of the sudden you got that extra 3 or 4 creatures in the grave to score you the win.

Nice deck, but have you considered Wreath of Geists, Grisly Salvage, and Darkblast? Darkblast is a great sideboard card against Delver, Grisly Salvage is for the most part better than Satyr Wayfinder, and Wreath of Geists is pretty self explanatory. Also, Flame Jab is a fun sideboard win condition against control.

April 27, 2015 10:08 a.m.

In addition, Putrid Imp is the cheapest discard outlet in your colors.

I have considered Wreath of Geists but decided to pass as I want to minimize the number of dead mill cards. That's why I swapped Nighthowler in. It's quite a bit more expensive if cast as an Aura, but counts as a creature if it gets milled, among it's other utilities.

The same reasoning is why I didn't add Grisly Salvage, although that was is always on the brink of being added, I just can't justify cutting the Satyr Wayfinder because of its continued utility even after being milled. I may try playtesting Salvage, but in a deck that mills so quickly, it's hard to imagine it being as useful as I'd like it to be.

Darkblast was considered in the original build. It does have its uses. I may consider adding 1 or 2 to the sideboard.

Putrid Imp could be useful, though I have no idea what I'd replace for it. Every creature has its use.

I love the deck! My only question is how you assure that you aren't milling all your big guys like Nighthowler or Bonehoard

At that point, it's just a coin toss trness. That's why there's a lot of them in the deck - you're bound to get one or two. If you get really unlucky and mill everything important, the fallback is the Dredge creatures like Golgari Grave-Troll. And if all else fails, you can always yank Jarad out of the graveyard and nuke the troll over and over.

The good news is that there's so many of those creatures, it's very likely you'll get one in your opening hand or your first couple draws.

If I don't draw one in my first 7, I'll play fairly traditionally - pseudo-midrange style with Lotleth Troll and Raven's Crime - until I draw one, then I'll kick on the dredge engine.

Hop in the playtest and just keep restarting. You'll see that it's fairly uncommon that you won't have at least one of your killer cards in your opening hand.

It's not uncommon to have an opening hand like this: Pic

And that's a perfectly serviceable hand. You've got a couple weapons, so you know you can safely start milling.

Damn, this deck lives up to its colors! Big ramp, and evilness lol. Its a lot better than the golgari dredge deck in my meta.

So, I like the deck idea. I played UG Splinterfright, Ghoultree, and Kessig Cagebreakers back in standard. I went ahead and ordered the cards I was missing and have started tinkering with the deck and seeing how it plays. You're right, it seems very slow. I didn't think modern had that luxury? Not even kidding, mana base works, but in the dozens of games I've playtested so far, i think it needs some work. I winced every time I saw a Dakmor Salvage and I found myself desperately trying to get a third and fourth land at times. What are your thoughts on this?

In the tweaks I've made so far, I've added Birds of Paradise x4 and dropped the Nightmare Voids and 2 Bonehoard. This lets me play cards sooner than later. It sounds like you have plenty of experience with the deck, but I'm wondering how you've arrived at these conclusions. I've played UG back in the day extensively, but not in Modern, so any advice would be appreciated.

Glad to see you like the deck, jjdrew99 and I hope it brings you success. I personally haven't experienced the mana issue you describe. If I can get 3 land in my opening hand, I'm usually set. When land is in demand, I'm typically looking to get it into the graveyard and then back out with Life from the Loam, turning on the dredge engine for a turn or two if necessary. That said, I could just be lucky and have gotten above average draws, or vice versa, you may have been unlucky. Regardless, I'm definitely open to people tweaking the deck to fit their playstyles and metas, so if you're changes have made the deck more successful for you, I'm happy to hear it and might consider making them myself. Let me know how further playtesting goes!

Will do. I'll be piloting this Thursday and possibly Friday. I'll make tweaks and let you know of my results.

And again, thanks for making this deck. Been a long time since I've played this kind of deck and this is definitely inspirational.

Excellent! Keep in mind, Dakmor Salvage is to keep in your hand for the Raven's Crime combo. Discard it, Dredge it, repeat as needed. Good luck! Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Alright, after some more playtesting, I've come to agree with everyone that said Nightmare Void has to go. In most situations, I'd rather cast something else. Raven's Crime can go off turn 1 and start comboing from the graveyard on turn 2. It isn't targeted, but it's so much better. I'll start playtesting some other cards like to fill the slot. Maybe see how Thoughtseize does with so much mill.
