While I playtest, I'm just going to swap Birds of Paradise in. If anyone has any suggestions for filling Nightmare Void's slot and moving things around, please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

What about Golgari Thug? A cheap and effective dredge creature, usually used in dredge decks.

@SirFowler - Definitely a good suggestion. Can't go wrong with more creatures in a Splinterfright/Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord deck. If I can't find a useful enough spell, I may go with him. I'd like to add another utility spell if possible.

I think finding a way to add some additional card draw to fuel Dredge might be viable. Just not familiar enough with all the cards out there to know what might work.

Harmonize helps green decks draw pretty well.

Kessig Cagebreakers have a high cmc for this deck. I say cut 2 Cagebreakers for 2 Golgari Thug and 1 Satyr Wayfinder for 1 Harmonize. I could be wrong, but it's just a suggestion.

The Kessig Cagebreakers aren't really an issue mana-wise, and after a bunch of playtesting are a total bomb. If your opponent lets you untap with him on board and they don't have an answer for the tokens, they usually won't last more than a turn or two if your graveyard is stacked. Life from the Loam and Dakmor Salvage make getting a bunch of mana really easy so long as you've milled it into your graveyard.

Upon suggestion from lemmingllama, I'm going to playtest Night's Whisper a bit to see if it can fill the draw role.

I do still like the Golgari Thug too. Just not sure how to squeeze him in.

Played a game today against a friend. It went VERY long, as his deck is heavy with lifegain and big monsters with regenerate. I almost milled out. One turn away from losing, he has 48 health and two Artisan of Kozileks, I got an opening, equipped two Bonehoards to Splinterfright and swung for 70 with trample for the win. Great match! Super fun.

I'll second that Kessig Cagebreakers is a beast. I think Satyr Wayfinder is always a welcome draw. I feel much better every time it's in my opening hand.

Draw... I have found turns where I was thinking "If I were to lose my bomb, I don't have a way to recover in my hand." I think this is the way the deck has been for as long as I've run it. Standard and modern. When I played U, Tracker's Instincts was very good at helping with this. Wondering if we splash U, or try something like Commune with the Gods like this past years Sidisi Whip decks? As mentioned Harmonize is also good.

I have been considering Commune with the God's for a while now. I think I'm going to start playtesting it.

May be splash blue in SB? That way Tracker's Instincts runs well in the deck and you could also add Armored Skaab (great against aggro and discard and Merfolk Looter which would run great in this deck.

Lol, this deck started as B/U/G and I dropped the blue for consistency. But I do like Tracker's Instincts quite a bit.

  • Sigh * The biggest problem I've had with making these decks in the past has been figuring what to take out. Sometimes the list can be very tight.

Strong Deck and relatively low in price. Great work +1

Still haven't worked out a Sultai version yet. But in the current form, I decided to cut a Cagebreaker to add one more copy of Jarad. He's so awesome when he comes down that he really deserves another slot.

I love this deck and have been loving it since Jarad showed up. Like most of us, we started with crappy and inconsistent cards so I used to use Boneyard Wurm. But what I'd suggest for this deck as an alternate to Jarad's ability would be Essence Harvest. I know that you can mill yourself out of it and it won't come back but the lifegain can make a huge difference in a lot of games. if you have a 7/7 Splinterfright and you cast Essence Harvest it's a 14 point life swing. Again, it is easier to mill out and it can be countered way easier than Jarad but it's still fun. I made a deck like this in standard before RTR rotated out, it's a little more gimmicky but I'd like it if you'd check it out!

Has anyone thought of throwing in one or two Lord of Extinction in here as a Maybeboard? Yea he is around $10 but, it uses all cards in your graveyard, and it's not even a legendary!

I think you should run Krosan Grip over Naturalize in the sideboard.

metalbanman - He's OK, and would certainly function in the deck. But we're currently getting the same effect for a cheaper CMC with Nighthowler and Bonehoard.

Sagarys says... #23

Well, not the same effect, obviously, but close. Obviously he'd get crazy out of hand with enough Dredge.

Thanks amerika00. It's my goal to prove that you can be competitive while still having fun and sticking to a budget.
