They're Real, And They're Mech-tacular

Commander / EDH Tap/Untap Vehicle WU (Azorius)

ChaseyK

Sideboard

This is an upgrade to the Buckle Up commander precon, replacing over half the deck with some relatively budget options (there are a few expensive cards like Walking Ballista and Crucible of Worlds, but I already had those on hand from old decks.)

Switched the commander to Shorikai, Genesis Engine like most people do. The card draw is too good, and there's just a lot more to build around (and while I am keeping a bit of the vehicle theme, the vehicles that have stayed can mostly be crewed by Shorikai's pilots, leaving Kotori, Pilot Prodigy without much of a place, so the face commander has been cut from the deck.)

I tried to add a little more punch to some of the vehicles on offer though. Deluxe Dragster and Reckoner Bankbuster have nastier effects than the likes of Colossal Plow or Imperial Recovery Unit, so those were easy swaps.

But while vehicles are a nice subtheme, the real focus is on tapping and untapping Skorikai as often as possible to cycle through a ton of cards. Unwinding Clock, Teferi, Who Slows the Sunset, Mobile Garrison and Voltaic Key all let the Genesis Engine do his thing multiple times to efficiently dig through the deck while also making an army of pilot tokens. And artifact lands like Ancient Den and Seat of the Synod and artifact mana dorks like Gold Myr and Cultivator's Caravan make sure I've always got the mana to activate Shorikai's ability once or twice on every opponent's turn. Plus, any extra mana can be sunk into Walking Ballista to build up a powerful form of on-board removal, or even chip out opponents for the win. There's even an infinite combo with the Ballista, Forensic Gadgeteer, Basalt Monolith.

I've also included a handful of artifacts that have tap abilities for free or cheap that Unwinding Clock will help trigger on everyone's turn. Walking Atlas, Idol of Oblivion, Sonic Screwdriver and Lux Cannon give me access to land, card draw, unblockability and removal. And for a little random fun, Chaos Wand can steal up a spell that could change the game completely.

My favorite little piece of tech is Swift Reconfiguration though. On its face, it's just a bad removal spell, a temporary fix for an indestructible creature about to swing in. But in this deck, it's also a protection spell, and even a combo enabler. Attaching the Reconfig to any of my creatures can save them from a Wrath effect, keeping them on the board in vehicle form to continue using their abilities. Trying to Doom Blade my Walking Ballista? Too bad. But it can also be attached to non-artifact creatures to make them into artifacts. A Reconfigured Padeem, Consul of Innovation now gives himself hexproof. Pretty neat. Or, with a Shimmer Myr in play, a Reconfigured Emry, Lurker of the Loch can now cast an artifact from the yard on everyone's turns.

The sideboard shows which of the stock cards got replaced, so you can compare and decide whether I made the right calls.
