Hello everybody! Sorry for not answering right away, my bad. First of all, thank you very much for your comments and the help you have given me
- Rotinaj : hey, I bought 4x Hymn to Tourach
so that's ready. I'm waiting to see the tears of my friends and playgroup.
- Diresam12 & APPLE01DOJ : I'm gonna buy 3x The Rack
to playtest it, I'm pretty sure it will be the bomb. Then I'll see if 1x more does or does not the difference. Thanks for the input and the upvotes :)
- Walrusyn : I replaced the Mire's Toll with Hymn to Tourach as it is a much aggressive option than Wrench Mind :D I know, it's mean.
- RedSeries : Good that you liked it! Losing the "Modern" banner isn't so bad, as my people play mostly with Legacy decks, so no harm done. And let's be honest, Thoughtseize
is waaay too expensive, isn't it? Thanks for commenting man!
- 40cal : I really like Geth's Verdict
but Victim of Night
can kill most of the targets, and I get to choose... not being the case in the former. As for the price, the Specters were mispriced, so I guess this is still in the budget price range hahahaha. Got a full playset of Hymn to Tourach
so let's see how those act.
- thuzra : Hey! Nice idea... I dropped one Raven's Crime
so I'll test how it goes... if things get I'll test the Dakmor Salvage
Thanks for the vote by the way ;)
Also thanks to all of the people who has silently helped the realization and development of this deck by upvoting it. Onions have been sacrificed in their names.

Megrim would be vicious in here. Do the onion sacrifices stack?
February 27, 2014 9:24 p.m.
I think Liliana's Caress might give you more reliable damage over Shrieking Affliction for only 1 mana more. otherwise, really like this deck. :)
March 1, 2014 1:39 a.m.
I agree with the Liliana's Caress its even better than the Megrim I suggested.
March 1, 2014 11:33 a.m.
- rathalos3000: Thoughtseize
is out of my reach for now... that damned card is still too expensive. But when I get the playset, I'll take Inquisition of Kozilek
out eventually. My playgroup will weep, and I'll let you know hahahah Thanks for stopping by man!
- Mac97: Megrim
loses against Liliana's Caress
and yeah. The sacrifices stack. Also if you check or help out with the other 3 mono-colour decks, we will mark a day in the calendar as "The Day of The Onion" in your name ;)
- BirdClaw Yes. And no at the same time. The original build worked with Liliana's Caress
and Quest for the Nihil Stone
and Painful Quandary
(for overkill lockdown). The problem is that it was slow. Too slow. You had to choose how to spend the mana in order to achieve one of these two things: To get your opponent to discard his/her hand ASAP, thus not casting Liliana's Caress
but avoiding things getting into the battlefield, but doing literally No damage. OR you had to put the Enchantments into play but by that time, the control you had was too little and the oppenent had already a creature/key enchantment/artifact in the battlefield (and that was hard to manage).
After the appearance of Shrieking Affliction in RtR, playtests proved that it had a much more stable damage output than the others, and it was just 1 CMC, so it wouldn't interfere in the disruption of the opponent's hand. Then Diresam12 gave me advice to get The Rack in the Modern frame... and it escalated to this build we can see now. Hope it clarifies everything, thanks for the feedback!! ;)
What do you people say about Leechridden Swamp ? Ever used it in other decks?
March 1, 2014 4:30 p.m.
I try Piranha Marsh , Leechridden Swamp and Dakmor Salvage . Even going mono, those lands can kill off your tempo easily by entering tapped while you need the mana early for crucial discard/removal spell. You could but 2-3 of one of those, but still it totally depend of your meta and format. I love putting 1-2 Ghost Quarter for land hate or Bojuka Bog for reanimation, flashback, etc. The first two are "mildly" useful to make games last a bit longer, Dakmor Salvage can work with Raven's Crime ... sometimes.

After much testing, the only thing this kind of deck lacks is flexible control element Liliana of the Veil , Ensnaring Bridge , viable beaters for Plan B or removal when discard fails, card draw like Dark Confidant or Phyrexian Arena . Still, you don't bother with format and Hymn to Tourach is nut. Totally playable casually, people just don't get Nyxathid xD For removal, I use a variety of removal, to ensure that Victim of Night or Doom Blade don't become useless...

This deck is very similar to how my mono-black discard deck started. I decided that because of the current meta, i would cut all of the creatures in lieu of Sacrifice spells and Liliana. One of the most difficult match-ups for this deck in modern is the dreaded POD deck that's seeing massive play right now. Hence the Torpor Orb s on sideboard. I really wish it would be playable in modern as is, but because of the strength of the competition it became more grindy than i would like.+1

Stupor is one of my favorite cards that was beat out by the speed of Wrench Mind . I think it would be fun in your deck. Sorry for the P.S. comment

- RandomRaven7 Hey thanks for the point! Much appreciated. These kind of decks have many choices in terms of creature control... you can try to remove them from the hand by discarding, using sniping spells like Doom Blade
or sacrifice spells like Geth's Verdict
, or simply by fighting them in the battlefield. I chose sniping and battlefield control with Nyxathid
. Also don't apologize for an extra comment man! Oh and if you ever change from Modern to Legacy, Hymn to Tourach
is the way to go :D It's just mean.
- Diresam12 Hey again, I wanted to try some extra non-basic lands and the most harmful I could find was Leechridden Swamp . Since it can be played over and over again, and gives Black mana when tapped, I guess it's the winner. Ghost Quarter is interesting, but this deck is so black-mana-intensive that the colorless mana would do more harm to me than to the opponent :/ About creature removal... I don't find myself in trouble very often... the deck controls very well what goes into the battlefield or what goes into the graveyard. Thanks for the support man, much appreciated. I will consider other kill spells as well.

I would suggest considering Horrifying Revelation . Sangromancer is a fun one as well
March 22, 2014 9:57 a.m.
Hey this is a silly question but i am a little confused about the card The Rack . If you are making them discard so many cards why is it good?
March 23, 2014 11:57 a.m.
pudgeep Hi! Allow me to explain, because the wording has been the eternal bane of that card: It will deal 3 points of damage every upkeep, minus the number of cards in the hand of the oppponent: that means... if you keep him with NO cards in hand, the math would go like this 3 damage - 0 cards in hand = 3 points of damage at the beginning of the upkeep phase. I hope that clarifies it. Not to be confused with Black Vise
Fandango47 Good suggestions! As soon as I test this build (a couple of days more, finally) I will take your suggestions into account. Sangromancer is a very interesting card, may be helpful indeed. Thanks for your feedback man! :)

Funeral Charm during opponent's upkeep! Isochron Scepter combos with it as well.

I feel like if your going to go legacy rack you should try out Thoughtseize and Dark Ritual

I agree with the ritual. Also, Megrim , Liliana's Caress and the ninjutsu of Okiba-Gang Shinobi . Perhaps also, if you're playing casual, Mind Twist for extra wrong-ness. I believe that it's banned in legacy tournaments.

How about Quest for the Nihil Stone it's a finisher in my deck (Rats FTW (black discard) I gave up powerfull creatures like Nyxathid for it
June 18, 2014 1:25 p.m.
@BusseHey there. You definitely need Waste Not , man. Other than that I see you having a difficult time against aggro. Take a look at my deck: Nyxafang Control :) I run Innocent Blood primarily against aggro and trust me.. It helps A LOT.

I like this deck a lot. If you want to make it modern, I suggest just ditching the Hymn to Tourach and running Thoughtseize .
