If you're running this, and feel that you sometimes get mana flooded, maybe you should run a pair of Barren Moor instead of 19 swamps, that way you can cycle a couple in a worst cast scenario?

  • CrazyGood-MTG9797: Thanks for the love man! I would suggest you check the other decks for ideas if you want. I see you like white decks too :)

  • malfeischylde: Although I HATE those lands, it might not be a bad idea to have 2x or 3x of Barren Moor. Thanks for the point of view man :)
I still have to test to a fine level how the speed is going (haven't played in 7 months, unfortunately), as the early 3-4 Turns HAVE to be valid, and I can't afford a Enters the battlefield tapped event ;)

Cheers to both!

In my discard deck I have only 16 lands and it works great. Allthought I have no Painful Quandary which is the most expensive card in your deck (but you have Dark Ritual and i don't). Sometimes I have some spare lands and then I pay retrace's cost of Raven's Crime with them, so I don't think that Barren Moor will be that necessery.

So how about 16 lands? You could put some more creatures then Stronghold Rats? Or some more draw source? Altar's Reap, Night's Whisper, Scarscale Ritual, Dream Salvage

seriously. I can't stand having a land that comes in tapped when it is really important that it doesn't. I actually cut the moor from my loma pox list, and am just keeping the tranquil thicket bc it synergizes with the deck better. Ireally don't want my lands to slow me down. As is, I two lands that don't even tap for mana. The struggle is real.

If what you need is actual draw power in mono black, there is also Skeletal Scrying. I was just thinking that land flooding isa real thing in mono color decks with no fetches.

So how about that Guul Draz Specter instead of the Hypnotic Specter. Sure it comes out one turn longer but it will almost always come out as a 5/5 and stay that way on your turn with ample discard. Also, Asylum Visitor is on the cheap now. I've been testing it in my 8-rack/waste-not and it not only provides good draw but some really good power if the opponent doesn't have any creatures out.

  • malfeischylde: Tapped-lands are complicated, but sometimes they are worth the while. I take that you were talking about Leechridden Swamp and, as a matter of fact, that land did an impressive 6 damage in my last match. Even I couldn't believe it hahahah also when you are land-flooded, Raven's Crime takes care of it.
Skeletal Scrying is a good choice, maybe having 2x or 3x AND some Sign in Blood. Cost is a little higher but at instant speed, so it has to be evaluated. Thanks for the advice ;)

  • mattuch: I'm going to cut 1x or 2x Swamps and evaluate from there. I get an annoying amount of land now that the Dark Rituals are taking care of some mana payments. I'm also adding some Black Sun's Zenith, so things and curves are a-changing again.
Will see... stay tuned for updates! Cheers man

  • oldbatman & CrazyGood-MTG9797: Guul Draz Specter WAS in the original build of this deck, hell yes! But I cut it out because it was too slow and not really reliable. Now with the addition of Dark Ritual it could be viable. I love going Dark Ritual + Hypnotic Specter though hahahah, T1 is priceless.
Asylum Visitor is good, but kinda risky. It's like Phyrexian Arena with legs. I might cut 1x Swamp, 1x Discard Spell and something else in place for 3x of these. They might be interesting to use (also they hit hard).

Thanks to all of you for your time and support! I also encourage the visit of the other decks of this cycles... who knows, you might get some ideas there! Cheers people!

Looking to build an 8 rack and this is a nice mid budget build with thought put into it. +1

  • Burg+1: Thanks! It's missing the last The Rack though... don't forget to get it.

  • Confetti_wap: Yes indeed the onion is sacrificed... don't you feel empowered already? :D

  • CrazyGood-MTG9797: Dismember could without problems be in the sideboard 3x. It was originally in the mainboard with a 4x presence. I had to deal with lots of Wurmcoil Engines, so I removed it and put Victim of Night instead. You have to see your meta to define what removal to run.

Cheers to all, my people! Always a pleasure to read your comments!

So with the reprint of Liliana of the Veil in modern masters 2017, do you have any suggestions for substitutions if I were to buy four? (Assuming price drops to a reasonable range) Or do you think Liliana would even be worth it?

Awesome deck & description. I've been putting together a deck similar to this. How do you feel about Underworld Connections vs Phyrexian Arena??

The deck really shines getting all those discard outlets as possible. I took out the mana ramp and some of the draw spells in order to max discard spells.
