Creature (1)

Having played with the "Breed Lethality" deck a time or two, I love the way it plays but want to see it made a little more consistent. As it stands, the deck is able to make some fun things happen with counters but fizzles a little when it comes to getting more counters out. To see the exact changes I've made more easily, switch the display over to "Custom Categories."

Here's a brief rundown:

  • Ajani, Mentor of Heroes: His first +1 ability is great for getting an initial counter on a creature. From there, we can either proliferate a creature's counters as much as necessary or continue to let Ajani handle things. I don't expect his -8 to ever go off, but I suppose the threat of it also lets him serve as a second health pool for me, albeit temporarily.
  • Fungal Behemoth: An easy way to get counters on the board that turns into a (hopefully) massive body when he finally lands. His lack of an additional keyword makes him slightly less appealing, so if anyone can think of a proper substitute, don't hesitate to let em know.
  • Inexorable Tide: Savor the flavor! Additionally, being able to place another counter on my creatures with such frequency will be a boon.
  • Mikaeus, the Lunarch: No points for creativity, right? As long as we can keep proliferating counters back onto him, Mikaeus keeps our creatures constantly getting pumped up.
  • Vigor : Vigor serves the double purpose of protecting our creatures from burns and combat damage while also pumping them up mightily. If I make any changes in the future, it'll be to add Swiftfoot Boots to keep him and other tasty creatures safe.
  • Winding Constrictor: Essentially, a creature version of Hardened Scales. If I ever play against someone with an infect deck I'll be sure to sideboard him out for something else.
  • Witch-Maw Nephilim : Besides the fact that it matches the commander's color identity, it can get pumped quite easily via normal play and proliferate, leading to a powerful rampaging creature.
  • Disallow: Replaced Disdainful Stroke with this for added utility at the cost of a single extra mana.
  • Identity Thief: This one may seem a bit out of left field, but let me explain. Being able to remove a powerful blocker from my opponents' board is good, but flickering Deepglow Skate, Reveillark or prime speaker zagana (among others) is even better.
  • Palace Siege: While Cauldron of Souls is good for keeping things around after a wipe, Palace Siege is good for returning things that I lose before I can respond (or if the Cauldron is tapped).
  • Spike Weaver: Thanks to Proliferate, making a Overwhelming Stampede useless has never been easier!
  • prime speaker zagana : Looking past the fact that I just like Simic, Zagana gives us easy card draw and a ton of counters to beat our opponents with.
  • Zameck Guildmage: Provides that all-important first counter on a creature for a mere . Additionally, makes my card-draw woes a thing of the past.
  • Jenara, Asura of War: Like Atraz, but less scary. A good flying hitter with easy access to more counters.
  • Managorger Hydra : A terrestrial version of Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker that grows quickly and terrifyingly.
  • Abzan Battle Priest: There won't be any shortage of creatures with counters on them, so I should be gaining tremendous amounts of life.
  • Ainok Bond-Kin: To ensure that my beautiful buffed babies win their engagements against, for instance, Deathtouch creatures.
  • Ivorytusk Fortress : Swing all in each turn and then still have defenders! Alternatively, use Mikaeus during every opponent's turn (keeping the number of counters on him in mind so you don't lose him).
  • Sight of the Scalelords : While not directly related to counters, I'll be hard-pressed to have a creature whose toughness is less than 4. Being able to swing all in while maintaining a blocking presence is especially nice.
  • Mer-Ek Nightblade: Combine this with the two Abzan bro's and Sight of the Scalelords and I'll have a bunch of little Atraxa's running around (sans Proliferate, of course).
